It's still The Learning Channel since ignorant trash from all walks of life learn that they aren't the trashiest ones out there. The phrase "Look! They more dumb than us!" is the single most uttered phrase in TLC focus groups.

At what point will the networks be so farking generic in the asinine crap they show that we won't be able to tell what we're watching? TLC, History, Discovery...blending into a mush of nondescript, time-filling garbage.

In other news, even a celebrity can go bankrupt from a medical condition. But she can just do a crappy show to make up for it, unlike you.

Used to work for Discovery Communications, Inc. The network pretty much abandoned use of the name "The Learning Channel" in the mid-90's because of a perception that the word "Learning" may have scared people off. It has been simply TLC ever since.

i haven't even watched 1 second of honey boo boo, and i have to agree with your statement. i actually liked the group TLC...they were a little different than most of the r&b/pop groups at the time. them and en vogue

So I had to watch the Boo Boo trainwreck and the most amazing part was that the family doesn't use plates when eating chicken nuggets. They just put the nuggets on the couch. No napkin underneath. Just nuggets on the couch.

I'm actually blown away by this.

I have not watched TLC since the mid 90s when their lineup changed from science shows to the type of programming they have now. I went from TLC to the History Channel, but then the History Channel went to "reality" programming like most of the other networks. I canceled TV service about two years ago and there has not been a single second where I have missed it.

The only way I'd be interested in this show is if they were to make it be about her brain tumor.

Meanwhile the lowest common denominator is in freeffall and TLC, Discovery, A&E, NBC, CBS, ABC, WB, et. al. all seem to be in a race to the bottom.

Ugh. This is so true. You can't watch Disc/TLC/Hist/etc unless you want to watch some mindless reality show.

I bet you can't sling a dead cat in Alaska without hitting a camera crew these days.

Troglodyte Lifestyle Channel

The Lower Class

This is a promising development. I'm assuming it's going straight to DVD, since they won't be able to find the appropriate channel willing to run it?

Surprisingly enough Fox will be airing it, with National Geographic rebroadcasting it afterward. The suits at Fox apparently have concerns that it doesn't fit their usual profile (i.e. they're afraid of offending the mouth breathing evangelical new-earth creationists that tune into watch Bill "can't explain that" O'Reilly), but i'm guessing MacFarlane has enough pull there to get a few vanity projects green-lit. Plus the original had a huge and lasting impact, and with Neil deGrasse Tyson and Ann Druyan on board it could be a massive hit for them. Set to air in 2013.

Here's hoping.

In the meantime, I've been rewatching the old Cosmos series on Netflix streaming. They actually hold up rather well. Then again, science is science.
