At least he joined the Air Force. FOD walks for exercise and no real chance of getting submerged.

What an unfortunate choice in naming.

Why did I read that headline in Dubya's voice?

pjbreeze: Why did I read that headline in Dubya's voice?

In my haste I wrote the headline like a meathead. I combined a couple of thoughts and didn't proof. Or I could just say I did this before I had my coffee.

Either way I've busted my approved link cherry.

His recruiter was a dick.
True fact: Every time you stick your right paw up to take the oath, you get a free name change.
Keep that in mind, A1C Tampon Stretch Armstrong Dizzy Gillespie Red Forman.

How do you make E-3 out of basic? Sign up for 8 years on a first enlistment?

High School ROTC. You go in as a E-2 and can make E-3 at the end of boot, if you assume a leadership position, such as a squad leader. You can't sign up for eight years, but only four. Actually, you have to sign up for six: four active and two inactive reserve.

Wrong, partly. There is a lot that can affect your rank. Leadership positions in Basic don't matter at all, anywhere or any time, and you are active for all 6 years. College credits can increase your enlistment rank up to A1C, as well as CAP awards like the Mitchell Award.

It's his *LAST* name. It's almost certainly something of foreign origin that made more sense originally.
