"When I was at a Santorum event, a woman told me this harrowing story about all these emergency room visits she'd been through and how she owed $20,000 and how she's going to pay it off on an installment plan," Ms. Wilson said. "And then she immediately says how much she hates Obamacare and how much she loves Santorum and hopes he wins. And there's a part of me that wanted to say, 'Are you crazy?' "

I cant imagine how the actress did not break character at that point.

That's what I was thinking, too. People get the wrong idea about the ACA (Obamacare) and have conveniently forgotten that Massachusetts has a very similar bit of legislation passed under Romney (Romneycare). I am pretty sure the whole liberal vs conservative thing is nothing more than "this is what they want, I don't like them and it is illegal to kill them right now, so I'm going to do my best to make sure they don't get their way (even if I already did it)".

Can you imagine that, for some people, they think the Republican party is finally representing their interests. They've been waiting for this all of their life because the GOP has always been too "liberal".

So she's got a ton of medical debt, hates Obamacare, and loves Santorum?

Am I missing something? Does she think that butt foam will help pay down her debt somehow?

The really sad part is it's not just the party but the people who support them. I've had some online discussions with reactionary conservative friends (aka, Republicans), and one very recent one involved me getting upset at something particularly ridiculous and dishonest the person was saying and him saying "your side tends to do that but the good news it looks like your side is winning." My side? I thought we were all on team USA. That's not how the reactionaries see it and this makes them dangerous and unfit to govern.

These are actual quotes from Republicans most from the south:

"All the liberals need to go read the "The Goose that layed the Golden Egg". Remember after you kill the Goose,There is NO golden egg for you to consume and redistribute for any of your programs."

"All you Obama lovers ALSO need to get a life...and quit taking mine"

"I live in Ohio and am so sick of the candidates visiting here..costing taxpayers of Ohio a fortune in police protection and causing traffic jams. GO AWAY!"

"Todays media has become the most corrupt it has ever been. Instead of being the watchdog for us it now has such a liberal bias that it can no longer be called fair and its reporting can be called suspect!!!"

"This presisent is not inept. He is following his plan to a " T " "

"The world has been "coming to an end as we know it" has been occurring since the Romans conquered the world in the first century B.C."

"THE OCTOBER SURPRISE NEEDS TO HAPPEN NOW!!"

\ Im not sure what the last quote meant, I like to think they aren't talking about America being attacked, but who knows anymore

This conversation is starting to occur in my head:

She: "If Santorum wins, then he'll lower my taxes like a good conservative should, so I'll have more money to pay off my $20,000 in healthcare debt!"

Me: "You do realize that any tax cuts (if they even occur) won't be a newfound fortune, right? It'll be a handful of dollars per paycheck. How long do you think it'll take to pay off your 20K?"

She: "Well, it'll certainly be more than if 0bama starts taxing me for healthcare!"

Me: "So you'd rather pay off $20,000 in bills than pay for government-guaranteed healthcare insurance?"

She: "Ain't no way I'll let the government take my money! I need it to pay off my bill!"

Me: "But why not support affordable healthcare, where you wouldn't owe the $20,000 in the first place? You'd have no debt at all!"

She: (pause) "But these amps go to eleven..."

Linux_Yes: let us hope the GOP finally goes off the clift on the night of November 6, 2012. a poetic ending to America's nightmare called the corporate owned Republican Party.

It's been a miserable constant election cycle, just what Karl Rove wants

I remember election night last time around,
a very liberal news anchor stated:

"after the Bush years, the Democrats taking the House and Senate, the Republican brand is tarnished and republicans will be alone in the desert for a generation"

Psychologist say there is a pendulum effect (back and forth) before any great change.

America is divided almost in half when asked if liberal or conservative.
I actually consider myself conservative, but know to vote Republican invites deregulation and robber baron fiscal ideas. A republican has not and will never balance the budget.

I think it will take something more tangible than an election to release all this stress in US of A

Old news though. There's a subsegment of both parties that thrives exclusively on "pissing off the other side". The difference being, of course, that the democrats didn't hang their hat on that subsegment, or, frankly, invite them to the table at all. The GOP is now functionally run by them. It's not the constituencies fault that the people they elected fed them fears and doubts and anger in the hopes of locking up a seat or two elsewhere in their districts. The GOP sacrificed its credibility on the alter of extremism, hoping they could secure enough of the electorate that "felt" angry at the state of things. They hinged their campaign on "are you better off now than 4 years ago" and proceeded to tell people during those 4 years how bad it was.

This is a "you made you bed, now sleep in it." situation. Or a "Play with fire and you get burned" situation. Take your pick

I think it's because of the GOP talking point that Obamacare is increasing the cost of health care.

There is a widespread misconception that Obamacare will levy a tax on all health care transactions, like an extra 5% tacked on to your co-pays and deductibles.

I think one of the things that went wrong for them was believing their own propaganda.

Trickle-down economics, lucky duckies, the Laffer curve, pro-life, etc. were supposed to be cynically used to get a bunch of voters on board. And in the 80s they were.

But some voters become politicians, and some of those become party elites. A few decades pass, and you have a whole party that sincerely believes the derp.
