MisterTweak: I'm guessing the writer has never actually visited a school in Texas, where these checks have been mandatory for... 6? 8? years.

That doesn't mean they're not wrong.

Completely off-topic, but I remember a BBC Radio article from a month or so ago talking about the Paralympics in London this summer. Apparently there were racing (track) events where participants were BLIND. The competitors had listening devices and sighted aids; the aids would tell the runners when a turn was coming up.

All the spectators in the stadium had to be dead quiet during the race...until after the third turn. One all the contestants had rounded that third bend, the stadium suddenly erupts in cheers and applause.

\would loved to have seen that.

iheartscotch: Ok; this is getting ridiculous. Not only are there monsters under the bed; but then it was nazis, communists, socialist, liberals, conservatives, terrorists, Muslims and Methodists. Now there's pedo bear under the bed too? Christ on a crutch; how big are these people's beds?

It's just a family of gypsies your father said could camp here a while.

Kids are more likely to be abused by people they know, right? I say ban families living together, it's the only way to be sure.

I kept reading the name of the school as Islambard instead of Isambard.

It's annoying.

As far as I'm aware, the requirement exists only for employees or directly connected volunteers (parent chaperones for field trips, etc...), not for a parent who wants to see a sports event. I can't even imagine the riots that would occur from schools trying to stop a parent from getting to the high school football game.
