I will say that Phil didn't choke. Justin Rose won the match by making birdies on 17 and 18 with two very nice putts. You just tip your hat to Rose on that match and move on. No "choking" involved.

Now, Steve Stricker is another story. When you can't get up and down on 17 from off of the green (which would have halved the hole), and when your "must make" putt on 18 misses by -- at least -- three feet to the left, you reached a new level of choke.

Obama's fault.

...did you see Phil's next to last shot? If he hits the green with that shot, that's a half. Instead, he gets to watch Rose be a hero. He choked, all right.

Choke?

The 8 European winners were a combined 26 under par for 137 holes, including Paul Lawrie (-6 for 15), Rose (-6), and McIlroy (-5 for 17). The only guy you could make a choke case for was Stricker who lost to Kaymer's +1.

USA didn't lose this. Europe went out and won it.

Bingo. Rose's putt on 17 was insanity. No one saw that one coming, especially after Phil hit a beauty chip (that almost went in) to about 3 feet. Everyone thought that was a half for sure. Poulter was an animal all week. As good as Keegan was and even though McIlroy almost missed his tee time (that would have been unreal), I don't think too many were thinking Bradley was winning that match. Donald laid a beating on Watson early and there was no coming back from that, and Tiger looked like he didn't really care too much when his match became meaningless.

All in all, the US simply lost. Some of those pairings were pretty terrible in my opinion, and if anyone should have a finger pointed at them, it's Love. His "thought process" for setting up the draws for the singles was arrogant at best. I'll never see the point of front loading that way. Just about any other player for the US would have likely beaten Kaymer. Putting Bubba against a player like Donald was a fallacy. Tiger should have gone out first or second.

In any case, all credit to Europe. They had a ridiculous task at hand with just about everything stacked against them and they pulled it off.

Nonsense. Woods/Stricker carded a whopping 1/2 point. It never should have come down to Furyks singles match. Keegan/Phil sitting out the Sat afternoon match was Loves failure as well.

Keegan was money all weekend, he shouldn't have sat out anything. I heard the US players didnt show up for the award presentation. I hope that's not the case, that's just bad form.

Meh, it's not really a choke when you lose a completely artificial "tournament" like that - Europe's players just kicked ass at singles - doesn't really matter what you did on the first few days as long as you take care of business in singles. And you don't even have to dominate, you just have to do one better than each opponent.

Even Westwood and Lawrie stepped it up and got two surprising points. Europe just played better top to bottom.

If I can read a little too much into this, yesterday seemed to be a good illustration of our mindset that to succeed, we just need to 'be american'. That is no longer the case, if it ever was.

The intesnity of Poulter on Saturday should have been warning enough to the americans that it wasn't over.

Not sure where that came from. The Americans were there for the closing ceremonies and did questions as well. They weren't happy, obviously, but they certainly did their duty.

Yes that's why it was buried on an obscure cable channel and the small crowd that showed up to support the USA was so quiet.
