$18,000 for some women over the course of a lifetime. Still a pretty misleading and generally stupid card though, since it doesn't cite that.

Hey liarmitter, the $18,000 isn't for one year, it's the savings a women could get for birth control for her lifetime. But you already knew that, didn't you, you dishonest sack of shiat.

$18k/yr? that's a lot of birth control!

And it doesn't say for one year either, but that didn't stop the lying wingnuts from saying that.

Why is it a bit much? According to PP, the cost of birth control pills can run from $18 to $50 per month. Over 30 years, that $50 per month comes out to $18,000. So it is completely accurate.

She asks for money to "help" pay for birth control, not to cover all of it. But, I guess that is the sort of "help" that democrats look for from the government.

I didn't mean the amount, i meant more of the ad. They are kind of implying that it is for a year without saying it directly. The ad is a bit over the top. But it is really not a big deal.

Well, it doesn't say $18k a year, and $18k in a lifetime for BC is cheap when kids actually cost $18k a year.

So, Romney's twisting an attack on him to say that because it's true you should vote for him? I can't really follow how this is good for him.

No one is taking issue with this part?

The only problem with the claim is that it implies women who earned less did the same amount of work as their male counterparts. When you compare apples and apples, working women actually make 117% of what men make for the same work week in the same job.

They link to a shiatty sexist study done by Fox News and basically are saying that women are not deserving of equal pay for equal work.

I don't think they know what the word equal means.

And that's just pills alone. Now factor in the bare minimum exams needed so that the woman can purchase pills (the "annual exam") can easily run $100 for a routine exam. The number starts to increase if any of her labs come back with abnormal cell growth, etc.

Further - not every woman can take every pill. There are pills designed to a woman's specific needs to avoid allergic reactions. A traditional pill can vary in price depending on how it works.

Which would be a salient point if birth control was just the pills. However, as has already been pointed out in this thread, there's a lot more to birth control than the medication.

These are people who think a woman takes a pill every time she has sex. You cannot reason with this level of stupidity.

Until my BC finally got treated like any other damn medicine, I was paying $20/month, with insurance, for the most generic of the generics. Of course, lots of people react badly to that... And then the costs go up and up and up.

154 years of the cheapest BC, at the cheapest rate that I, personally, have never seen in my entire life. I don't doubt that exists somewhere, but until this year I never paid less than $20/month for BC, including at my student health center *and* Planned Parenthood when I was inbetween insurance plans.

Now I pay $10.

Since when did "access to" become the equivalent of "access to free" whatever it is?

Seriously, the world is swimming in birth control of various forms, you just have to buy it. Just because people don't want to pay for your birth control doesn't mean that they hate women, or there's a "war on women" anymore than it means there's a "war on Ontos" because there's no law stating that I have a right to free whiskey.

Jesus, birth control is cheap. If you can't afford it, don't fark.

Not really. The cost of birth control pills is fairly common knowledge. Only a complete would go away from that thinking it costs that much a year.

Certainly no women would think that, and I imagine they would be the target audience for that little snippet.

The Obama campaign long ago recognized that it couldn't make a case for the president's re-election without distorting its accomplishments and details of its opponent's platform. One area in which the duplicity has been especially thick is women's rights.

Ooh, classic RW projection/fdeflection is that.

The GOP has long realized that they can't make a case against Obama without distorting his accomplishments and should not be allowed to even say the word "platform" until Mitt coughs up something resembling an actual plan that people can properly analyze.

The GOP's duplicity regarding their "What war on Women?!" derp is long noted is these parts.

The 18K claim is pure BS.

Whenever I see a Hot Air link I always think of that "Opinions are like assholes" quote.

That site is a veritable Dutch oven of hot rank air.

Then we should be doing the work to make sure that everyone can afford these things, otherwise there's not really "access" at all. Oh, but wait, that's socialism too.

Just to be FAIR, I think parents of young men should also budget $18,000 a year for hookers while their son is away at colledge.

lets say a resonable girl is $200 a session, $18,000 will get him laid 90 times, which is nearly twice a week. And if you're wondering about concoms, the hooker always brings them.

I mean, that would be FAIR...

Well then the abnormal cell growth is a different problem and falls under cancer and not birth control doesn't it?

It;s like saying a person with 300k in debt but only owes 1200$ of that for medical concerns is considered a medical bankruptcy.

But thats democrats for ya....sponging off other people well into middle life.

Epocrates lists "Yaz", which seems to be a common prescription around here, for $92.99 retail cost per month. "Yasmin" is a similar one, for $85.99 per month.

Even your ortho tri-clycen is still $39.99/mo retail. A quick skim through a few other contraceptives yield similar $35-90/mo pricing.

I don't know what epocrate's sources are but I can vouch that it's fairly accurate in its pricing, at least in my area.
