Occam's Razor doesn't favor this form of conspiracy. Nations given to using illegitimate methods to crush popular uprisings have little choice but to stick together. No conspiracy is required for that.

McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom. Good plane, for the start of the missile-armed jets age.

My paternal grandfather might have worked on the design.. it wasn't the sort of thing he could talk about with the family.

I'm by no means a military buff, but in my humble opinion the F4 was the most awesome plane ever flown.

That aircraft was built from discarded TV dinner tray foil and was fueled by McCarthyism.

Yes but every real conspiracy negates Occam's Razor.

World politics as of lately reminds me of that scene in Canadian Bacon where Alan Alda is desperately trying to start another cold war with Russia so his defense contractor buddies can get giant contracts and noone will question them.

Sigh.

The engines were massive. When they designed a fighter for them they realized they would never be able to build a fighter AROUND them just because of the size of it, so they built a fighter next to it and said 'Fark it' and threw another one on it on the other side to balance the considerable weight. The fuselage is nothing more than a support frame to connect two big arse engines and a cockpit to direct them.

You'll find that air frame doesn't matter as much as updated electronics, radar, fire control, and engines, etc.

Part one:
RIP to the brave pilots. I hope Turkey gets some revenge.

Part two:
The F-4 could easily be upgraded and modified to serve as a multi mission platform. Time to tear out those J79s and replace them with F414-GE-400s? AN/APG79 would make a good replacement rardar.

Russia has 10's of thousands of citizens in Syria.
Which side do you think that they are propping up. Of course, if you have a blame a country, blame the one that has not yet completed development of their nuclear weapons. Plus, I am sure that Mr. Assad reminds us on a daily basis that there was a time not too long ago when we were rendering prisoners to Syria to be "questioned" by his full service staff. This is why he will never leave Syria.

"The Cold War ended a long time ago"

The name of the game now is "hearts and minds." Israel's current regime has absolutely no grasp of that concept. Hopefully their next election kicks them out for good.

It's cute how this Assange guy really, REALLY doesn't understand the nature of "consequences." He seems to think that by putting these documents out, the governments they impact would just...I dunno, capitulate and throw up their hands, admitting all wrong-doing and departing their countries in shameful exile as opposed to declare him an enemy and give him 0 asylum. To put it another way: Did he really think blowing up the Death Star wouldn't just mobilize the entire remaining Imperial fleet DIRECTLY up his ass?

The Israelis updated them in 2000 with the terminator package. The frames are still old but it has updated avionics and can support all modern weapons. Question is if they still have Israeli support at this point, kind of doubt it

No, no I didn't, it was just bugging me and I glanced at his name pre-coffee and basically saw red. And the funny thing is: I'll probably do it again.

Well of course he blames the Russians, Obama never takes credit for... Oh wait this is about Syria? Sorry, you could see my confusion when the words "government failing" "whole world hates you" and "blaming..." were included, because that's almost always Obama.

Russia has a lot to answer for but never will when it comes to Syria.
