Fark Party
Host: Quadruple Entendre
Description: Fark poker party/March of Dimes Fundraiser in DFW at Big Slick Poker Academy
Date/Time: November 1, 2012 - Time TBD
Party Info: I just opened a poker school in DFW, and I'd like to throw a little fark poker party/freeroll/March of Dimes benefit thingy. The general idea is this: farkers come out, pitch in $10 to play a free poker tournament at the school, and the winner's prize money goes, in their name, to March of Dimes. We'll have some March of Dimes fundraising gals come out to deal the tournament for us (basically the wives of all my buddies - they do MoD stuff every couple of months. They call themselves B4B, "Boobies for Babies").

As people bust out of the tournament, they'll walk next door to the Villa Mediterranean Bar and Grill and have some drinks, some food, and some laughs. We can raffle off some cool stuff for the benefit, too - poker sunglasses, shirts, hats, and miscellaneous paraphernalia.

Anyhow, that's the idea. Boobies, babies, bluffing, and beer.

Thanks man, we have our first pre-opening party thing last night, it was a friggin blast. Everyone who came out was SO supportive and enthusiastic about the concept. Hope we don't fark it up, lol.

I am really hoping that we can get the benefit off the ground, the B4B ladies really work their asses off, several times a year, to raise money for MoD, and I'd like to make this a regular thing. It's not really even a PR thing; we start marketing like banshees next week, getting people in the door isn't going to be a problem. Just want to be able to feel like we're doing something that matters, as the "product" of poker really has no inherent value beyond entertainment.

So this is a PR event for your business disguised as a funding for a charity that has a dicey accounting background? Why aren't you honest enough to just promote your business/school?

This actually sounds like a lot of fun.

Of course we want to promote our school. We also want to support good causes. (In fact, if any N. Texas residents have some good charity ideas in mind, please let us know what we can do to help.) If all we wanted to do was promote the school, we have a $10K WSOP freeroll for that already...we could do poker party and skip the benefit part; that would be just as effective, a lot less work, and we wouldn't have to donate additional prizes to raffle off, either.

I dunno 'bout MoD's accounting background, that's above my pay grade. I play poker. But I know a little bit about the work they do, and a lot about the people in my life who support them wholeheartedly. I would guess that most big charities have had people with their hands in the cookie jar at one point or another - that's not going to prevent us from ever supporting a big charity.

That's enough for me, but if you don't wanna pitch in $10 to the cause and come have some beers with us, that's cool, too :)

Does anybody know if Drew plays poker? Hey Drew, do you play poker?

Man this sounds like a spec-effing-tacular way to launder money!
Hey Farkers, next month I'm having a no-limit Texas Hold 'em tourney for, um, the Human Fund. Cash only at the door.

Carrollton, Texas? You should head over to Woot! and post something on their boards.... the company HQ is in Carrollton and they're definitely good people.

Wish I could make it myself, but being 2000 miles away makes it tough :(

what's the game and is it tournament or cash?

2012-10-18 01:53:42 PM

little Jeff: what's the game and is it tournament or cash?

It's a No limit Hold'em tournament. But you don't win anything for winning it, aside from the joy of having the prize pool go to March of Dimes in your name. Although your buy-in does get you some raffle tickets for cool stuff we'll give away.

Is it ok for non-poker-playing Farkers to show? Of course we'll try to play and throw in the cash.

So was this rescheduled yesterday? I'm going out of town Friday so I can't make it tomorrow, but I might be able to do one later in November.

Don't know about that last part, but anytime you see a corporation's name on a poster or a billboard or sign or before a PBS show or any other visible position related to sometime non-profit of charity, they're doing that for the PR.

Gah. It's a school night for the ol' Ras. Otherwise I'd join ya. I suck at poker but I'd donate 10 bucks just to drink with everyone.
