I'm sorta looking forward to this all being over and submitting a headline virtually identical to this, after the point where "2 games behind" is the same as "out of contention".

/Don't really care who makes the playoffs.

For a team that was 4 or 5 games up in their division in July, that doesn't seem very good.

With all their big money players acquired in the Red Sox deal, the Dodgers should have had a playoff spot sewn up by now. Way to wait until near the end of the season to make a run.

Meanwhile, the O's might win their division this year. The next series for each team has the Orioles playing the Rays and the Yankees playing the Red Sox. As completely shiatty as the Sox have been this season, they still get one last chance to at least knock the Yankees off the top of the division.

/Who am I kidding. The Yankees will still ending up winning the division by two games.

A shiatty utility player, a guy on the DL til next year , an alcoholic past his prime pitcher and a 1st baseman that lost his power stroke long before he left Boston. I don't know how it hasn't worked out.

They also lost Chad Billingsley for the season, and Kershaw hasn't been healthy.

shiat, I'm a Yankee/AL fan and I know this

Nah, I'm pretty much resigned to the O's taking the division.. Yankees completely blew it between yesterday (Jays were trying their damndest to hand the Yankees runs and the Yankees just wouldn't take them) and the Twins game on the 25th (Girardi completely Logan'd that game away).

Meanwhile the Red sox have completely rolled over for the O's, but you just know they'll suddenly act like world-beaters against the Yanks just to "prove a point". The only real question mark is which Rays show up.

The Giants will end this little fantasy soon.

Dodgers should of had this wrapped up long ago. Remember when they were ahead of the NL West? Now they're 9 games behind the Giants? Bang up job guys. Way to forget how to hit for a month. The bullpen has been giving all they got, but without any run-support they just couldn't hold the fort. But thankfully they've woken up just in time for them to rely on the Cards losing and beating the Giants. Great situation.

Oh yes. I remember that. Quite well. The ironing is delicious.

Simple explanation: Bringing in Gonzalez, Beckett, and Crawford increased the suckitude quotient to the point that no one, not even a former Yankee like Don Mattingly, could prevent his team from being drawn into the vortex of suck that is the crop of current (and former) Red Sox players.

/of course it wasn't that simple
//injuries hurt LA bad
///have to give SF credit
////don't think all of the Giants are roided-up

The Giants/Dodgers series is going to be interesting to watch. The Giants are going to do everything they can to stuff the Dodgers chances at a post season spot. Payback is a biatch.

It's almost as if adding a bunch of past-their-prime and underachieving big names doesn't make your team better, even if they are big names.

I was at a Giants-Dodgers game where the Giants lost 10-0 earlier this season. There were a bunch of doucehbags Dodgers fans who kept shouting "MVP! MVP!" every time Kemp came up to bat. I just laughed and laughed.

He had better numbers than Braun.

Yeah, after having blown their division lead AND increased they payroll by about a bazillion dollars they're now trailing the team who lost the best player in baseball during the offseason for the SECOND wild card spot,. Dodgermentum!

/and their elimination number dropped to two today after the Cardinals won again

On behalf of the A's fans of the bay area, "Thank you Angels for giving the rangers a hell if a series!"

The AL West is gunna come to a wild conclusion

Not really. The Rangers only need ONE game against the A's to win it. Conversely, an A's sweep gives the division to them.

Angels would have to sweep the Mariners, and Rangers sweep the A's for the Angels to stay alive.

Any win against the Rangers or any loss by both the Angels and Rays puts them in.
