I was thinking Boondocks, too. But in my mind it was the scene in the nightclub where they manage to miss each other completely. Notice in TFA there's no mention of anyone actually getting shot.

Oh, and NSFW language at the end of that clip.

This reminds me of the cover story on Rick Ross in Rolling Stone a few weeks ago. In the article, he brags about all the money he blows on cars, bling, fancy food, and his entourage, but when he was taken to court for child support, Ross starts claiming that he only spends a few bucks a month eating at McDonalds and doesn't spend thousands of dollars on expensive jewelry like a gold and diamond necklace shaped like his head. It's hilarious and sad at the same time. Dude is willing to waste huge amounts of money on stupid crap, but is too cheap to spend money to take care of his kids.

I know as well as anyone else that rap's been on a downward spiral for quite some time now, but is it just me or, in the last few months, have they fired up the afterburners and set a course perpendicular to the ground?

I swear, damn near everything that plays on hip-hop channels, even on satellite radio, is mediocre at best and nose- and ear-bleed inducing at worst.

This is mostly true. There are some rappers that are I guess you would say decent, but coming across something truly great seems pretty tough now a days.

Then again, I most of the "new" stuff I listen to tends to be in time frame of Deltron 3030 and older stuff from K-OS more than anything now a days. I guess the majority of that is probably only as new as 2000-2006 or so. There is some new stuff that isn't entirely vomit inducing but the only two that I can think of off the top of my head are Kid Cudi and Lupe Fiasco. There's also a group called Heiroglphyics that is a collection of people including del that keeps popping up on a couple of my pandora channels from time to time that generally isn't too terrible. Oh well, if you happen to know of any decent stuff, I'm always looking for new hip hop that doesn't make me hate the industry.

I'd rather the genre go back to stuff like this:

Souls of Mischief - '93 'Til Infinity

instead of constantly speeding towards this:

Waka Flocka Flame (because apparently, being hardcore means having a name straight from the Sesame Street rejection pile) - Lurkin' (NSFW language. Probably not safe for sanity either)

There's still some really good stuff out there. But you won't find it on BET

Shabazz Palaces (you might recognize Butterfly from Digable Planets)

Cage

Saul Williams

El-P (one of the best albums of the year, in any genre)

Aesop Rock

Rap doesn't have to be about ignorant thugs acting out their Scarface fantasies. At its best it's poetry set to a memorable beat.

Blathered on for around 1/2 hour with 'shots fired' and 'shots not fired' and 'mace sprayed' and 'mace not sprayed'.
Never got back to Crazy Horse as I gave up on being able to watch without interruption.

I can be. Tupac was a talented man. 1000 times more talented then the mainstream rap these days. And the reason his legacy goes on is because he was cut down in his prime. His record company probably sold ten times as many records as a result.

It's pretty much common knowledge to anyone who was paying attention to current events in the late 80's/early 90's. The way the other fellow was sharing it as if it was a news flash is what tipped me off that he's been listening to the JRE podcast. jeffreyh: Tupac was a race baiter and closet homosexual. But he's not here to make music so that makes me cool for listening and I will tell you about that and the good ol' days of rap.

I recently saw a documentary on him and he did seem a little feminine in his some of his actions. NTTIAWWT

Dead for Tax Reasons: Pray for omarion

More truthful than you know! Last sentence in the article.

And prison biatch pants.

He is possibly the most ridiculous black man in America.

doesn't have anything to do with anything, but seemed appropriate

I hear ya. people tend to forget rock and roll's violent roots and instead focus on the hip hop hype. I remember when the Rolling Stones and their crew used to go at it against the Beatles and their entourage backstage with chains and tire irons. they used to just cover it up in the media back then. when someone got capped they'd say, "oh soandso just ODed" or make up some other cover story. I still can't believe Bob Dylan didn't even get arrested when he bludgeoned Joplin to death with a mic stand.

You're confusing Beatles and Stones with mods and rockers. Thousands were drowned in the sea. It was all over front pages. Somebody even wrote book about it

NorCalLos: nburghmatt: NorCalLos: jaylectricity: He's not the real Rick Ross. He stole his moniker from this dude: Freeway Rick Ross.

Thanks for that, Gary Webb. You know how I know you listen to the Joe Rogan Podcast?

i don't listen to or watch Joe Rogan anything if i can help it, and i thought that was common knowledge. at least among people who listen to rap at all.

It's pretty much common knowledge to anyone who was paying attention to current events in the late 80's/early 90's. The way the other fellow was sharing it as if it was a news flash is what tipped me off that he's been listening to the JRE podcast. He's had freeway Ricky on a couple times recently talking about how he's suing the rapper for using his name. That part is actually news.

Yeah, I had never heard of him, I barely knew of the rapper until the first appearance of Freeway on the JRE. You'll have to forgive me, I wasn't interested in current events when I was in grade school.

I recently heard of another guy, Maserati Rick, in Detroit. Thought it was funny that two legendary drug dealers were both named Richard.

I don't know either, but it's pretty easy to guess that this is going to be a good thread to find people to add to the ignore list.

It might not kill you to skip a thread now & then, Posty Posterson.

Then again with a bit a luck it will kill him/her.

Sometimes it's ok to point out statistical stereotypes without a bleeding heart screaming that we've got a Nazi symbol tattoo'd on our head.

Or you could be a grown-up and not point out stereotypes every time you get the chance. You know, like intelligent people do. Because, you know, they're stereotypes. We already know what you're *wink wink* referring to. We're just not insecure enough that we need to point it out.

fried chicken and watermelon. Its true and you know it.
