When I was a teenager, back in the mid eighties I helped my dad do some of these at the Neptune Festival. His company had a team that participated in the amateur division and there were usually about 15 volunteers who participated. Was a lot of fun if hard work. Sculpting it is kind of weird and depending on how wet the sand is you can shape it to make different effects. We didn't get fancy imported sand though.

So, where does the sand come from, and what kind is it?
