When I was like 13 or whatever and Bob Dole was all runnin' for president and shiat I wanted him to win just so those Conan bits would continue.

In retrospect, I think it'd be nice to have moderates like Bob Dole in the Republican party.

oh well,

...but I thought it would be the front-door key.

*taps mic*

Bob Dole wants to know, is this thing on?

Working with vets gets Bob some extra karma points in my book.

/In other news, Donna Shalala's name is just plain fun to say out loud.

Hm. By being awesome and having a great sense of humor? Spiffy.

It sucks that Bob Dole was the GOP candidate during the GOP's mid-90's experiment with being rabid bat-shiat crazy; I'd have voted for him over W any day of the week. I just couldn't vote for the Gringrich-led 'OMG TEH WHITEWATER PRESIDENT HAD AN AFFAIR' loonies that would have come with him. Sad to say.

/ Larry Flynt is still my hero for hoisting Bob Livingston on his own petard. If only he could have gotten Gingrich at the same time...

I'm Bob Dole and Bob Dole approves this message.

That was a surprisingly good read. No bitterness, no finger-pointing, no whining and back-stabbing.

Are we sure this guy still qualifies as a Republican?

"I had a dream that I would be here this historic week receiving something from the president - but I thought it would be the front-door key."

Have Republican candidates always been this hilarious?

Agreed.

Are we sure this guy still qualifies as a Republican?

I'm pretty sure he no longer does, at least according to the sociopaths running the party now.

Thank you for reminding me about that; that was unbelievable.

I had a friend that worked for CSPAN during Dole's tenure in the Senate. Apparently, he was really funny, well liked, unanimously respected and quick witted.

He was told to not be himself during the election, so as to not alienate the Republican base.

I could have voted for Bob Dole. My wife and I saw him on Letterman after all that nonsense and the guy is hilarious. If he'd have shown 10% of the candor he did on Letterman, it could have been very different for him (Bob Dole).

The last of a breed. Can you imagine any other Republican nowadays appearing in commercials for Viagra?

Is this, like, an open letter to Mitt, to help Romney plan his next 15 years?

Except Bob Dole changed into dishonorable scumbag right along with the GOP when he decided to jump on the derp train during the 2004 election in questioning Kerry's military record.

Bob Dole said something along the lines of, "John Kerry awarded himself three purple hearts and never got even a scratch as far as I know." If he was a honorable man/veteran he would have denounced the Switch Boat arseholes. Except he applauded them and flushed and respect I had for him right down the shiater.

Wounded and disabled WW2 veteran. Ain't bad mouthing him, dude abides.

Wiki say:

"In 1942, Dole joined the United States Army's Enlisted Reserve Corps to fight in World War II. Dole became a second lieutenant in the Army's 10th Mountain Division. In April 1945, while engaged in combat near Castel d'Aiano in the Apennine mountains southwest of Bologna, Italy, Dole was hit by German machine gun fire in his upper right back and his right arm was also badly injured. As Lee Sandlin describes, when fellow soldiers saw the extent of his injuries all they thought they could do was to "give him the largest dose of morphine they dared and write an 'M' for 'morphine' on his forehead in his own blood, so that nobody else who found him would give him a second, fatal dose." Dole had to wait nine hours on the battlefield before being taken to the 15th Evacuation Hospital, where he began a recovery that would take until 1948 at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan (where Dole met future fellow politicians Daniel Inouye and Philip Hart). His right arm was paralyzed; Dole often carried a pen in his right hand to signal that he could not shake hands with that arm.

Dole was decorated three times, receiving two Purple Hearts for his injuries, and the Bronze Star with combat "V" for valor for his attempt to assist a downed radio man."

And to this day, you still have people who believe the swift boaters. Damned team sports attitude of following politics. Too many people don't care about the truth, they just care if it feels good or is against their "enemy."

The last thing I saw Bob Dole doing was commercials for erectile dysfunction.

/there's a joke somewhere with the whole "Dole erections/Romney elections" but I can't put it together.

Fark Bob Dole. I want to know what Teve Torbes has been up to. Considering the financial meltdown, probably no good.

It's probably why we've heard so little from him. Why would a mostly decent Republican even WANT to be associated with the thugs and psychopaths running the show nowadays?

I'm pretty sure he quit politics and became a lobbyist for DelMonte.

And they did that stuff AFTER the Great Depression.

Dole ran a horrible campaign, but he never came off as a douchebag. So he's ahead of Romney.
