"Go wrong". I love how we see those polls as the preordained outcome for the year.

Then the teams make their input.

To blow a game when victory is almost certain, especially in the 4th quarter. Term made popular by a college football team in the northwest that blows games with consistency.
WSU couged another one and lost 38-35 after leading by 31 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Pronounced "Coog" or even Kewg.

I dont think one self styled pirate is going to change this decades long tradition. Will be fun watching him try.

We kind of had the same tradition at Tech and he changed all that. As you said, it's going to be fun and if his time in Lubbock is any indication, WSU fans are going to have a great time!

It still fails to amaze me how much political crap ESPN serves up as fact. A far cry from what they once were. I'm sorry kid, you had to go sit down, the coach had enough of your prima donna noise for one day. Oh wait here comes Senator Daddy with a talk show.

ESPN3 is web-based and allowed you to watch just about any ESPN broadcast (ie out of region games or Gameday while you're at work) regardless of provider. They changed that last part and now I can't watch it while my samples are heating for the next two hours.

I just have a hard time believing a team should be ranked in the top 10 and didn't beat Maryland by 30 points.

TheDumbBlonde: Gators have a bye week before the butchering begins. Sigh.

Yeah their defense is suspect but if they can score they may outlast LSU, but after that they have a pretty easy vandy, then probably two losses in a row. For the first time in a long while Florida doesn't scare us at all, I don't understand how people thought Florida's strong point was going to be their defense.

I also wonder how pissed kiffin is that no doctor would clear Jarvis to come back to USC, as a UGA fan I'm glad they were scared of the lawsuit.

Can there be a tie in college football? I'd like to see MSU and tOSU tie at 0's. Or at 77 each, with only 3 touchdowns for each team being scored by the offense. It would be great to see the sloppiest, most depressing game ever played... at least until the next SEC game!

Do you ever check your predictions compared to an over/under? I believe the lowest scoring team today, according to your predictions, will score at least 18 points. Most games have both teams scoring in the 30's or 40's which rarely happens -- the average score is 39 to 31 with a standard deviation of each score about about 5.

The scores themselves aren't particularly accurate, but on the whole they're relatively close. The other guy who does this has a slightly better model for predicting the scores, but he's slightly less accurate (~1% over the course of a season) than I am on picking the winners. If I had more Copious Free Time(tm) I'd figure out how to improve it. :)

I think he's stated in the past the scores aren't that accurate but its quite good at picking who wins, so if you are betting straight up you would win but most bookies and Vegas have point spreads. When you factor that in I think its probably 50/50 or less.

You're also only making predictions based on win/loss, right? If your scores were horribly off, you're not picking against the spread. Why not just report the win/loss pick then?

Just because I apparently have Copious Free Time, last week the average score was 37-17 with a standard deviation of about 13 for both scores. That's slightly higher averages than I expected, but it has a much larger spread of scores which is the main thing I noticed lacking about your scores.

Sh*t, I go there all the time on our work computers and one of the remote att site managers had me put a rule in the firewall to allow that site to stay unblocked. If your network admin didn't block it and something bad happens then that's his fault!

Towson.

Towson.

Whatever, playing a good 1-AA team is little different from playing a bad 1-A team. At least with LSU, a non-conference schedule this weak has been the outlier lately. Plus, Washington beating Stanford makes things a little more palatable.

Hopefully, the team shakes off whatever funk they were in playing Auburn. Going to take much more focus to go into the Swamp and win.

That's just it though. We pulled Texas' pants around their ankles last year. We held them to a safety and a field goal. I loved watching the football team wiping the grin off of those smarmy bastards' faces. As for the money that Texas wanted to not give "second-tier" teams, Mizzou could have escaped that as well with a few more solid seasons.

Another four or five years in the Big XII and Missouri could have been a real contender on the national scene. Instead, we're in a 10-20 year cycle to rebuild and relearn everything.

Personally, I like the new ones, at least the more traditional looking kits. The bright gold one with the big tiger on the helmets I could do without, though.

At least they aren't stuck with ego driven Texas, its a win for them and they will get better, don't forget Arkansas and south Carolina were considered shiatty when they joined as well.

Texas would never give up their cash, they had to leave to help crush their ego a bit, once OU leaves Texas has no leverage any longer. Missouri and A&M would always be the little sisters to Texas and OU, it was in their best interests to leave.

I'll be around a little bit this morning and then disappear for most of the rest of the day. IOW, don't bet using my system because you'll lose money. :)

Straight up its pretty good, stupid spread always costs me money, I hate point spreads.

And is Georgia Tech this bad? Their defense looks like complete shiat.

Yes. Adjusted for strength of opponent, their defense is ranked 87th in FBS. Teams that have a better defense include East Carolina, Kansas, and Kent State.

Yeah, that was just their coach being a massive douche, their team had been disbanded because of lack of funds/interest but the GT coach insisted they play or pay them for the missed game. The guys they played were volunteers from the school so basically this douchebag ran up the score against school kids.

I figured UT would put up some points. We have an explosive offense when Bray is making good decisions and our receivers aren't dropping balls. If the Vols are going to win any SEC games this year they're going to be shoot outs. I didn't think we'd be getting so much help from Georgia though. If I was a bulldog fan I would be pissed at the play calling of the 2nd quarter

Ahhhhh and it starts already just like Oregon in 2011 BCS game went out and showed how great their offense would do against a good defense........

Oh wait, they were held almost 30 points under their scoring average for the season, couldnt run the ball and their yardage total was 100 yards off their average as well. Nice jorb there potent offense! Also you made it where we couldn't mock auburn for a year and we had to put up with their fans being even more obnoxious.

Baylor and WVU would get destroyed.

Been that way all season. Everyone wants the big hit, fundamentals be damned. They just let a 10 yard screen turn into a 30 yard touchdown because 2 guys wanted to strip the ball, one wanted to WWE shoulder slam him and another guy couldn't wrap him up.

Urban needs to light a fire under the defensive coordinator. That shiat is unacceptable at this point in the season.

Spaced Cowboy: Lou Cypher: Nice tackling, Ohio State

Been that way all season. Everyone wants the big hit, fundamentals be damned. They just let a 10 yard screen turn into a 30 yard touchdown because 2 guys wanted to strip the ball, one wanted to WWE shoulder slam him and another guy couldn't wrap him up.

Urban needs to light a fire under the defensive coordinator. That shiat is unacceptable at this point in the season.

- Boston College just punted on fourth-and-inches from their own 37. I hope Clemson rattles off 99 straight points as punishment. Every single coach and media talking head needs to read Scorecasting.

- The Baylor/West Virginia game was an abortion of a game. That was not a great football game and nor was Baylor/Washington last year.

- I have over 62.5 on SJST/Navy. It is 6-0 in the third. Lovely.

- This helmet rule is farking retarded and another insult to us fans who have been tricked into thinking player safety is actually their concern. Quick, when was the last time you saw someone get hurt after he lost his helmet? I've found that the player actually turns superhuman when it happens. AND WHAT THE FRIG IS THE POINT OF MAKING HIM MISS THE NEXT PLAY?! This shiat infuriates me because it makes me think that these guys think I/we are stupid.

- Take Colorado, New Mexico, and Southern Methodist. Trust me.

Nobody said that because UGA was only there because the champion was in the BCS game, I remember specifically saying this is the kind of team that can beat that UGA team because of Rich letting off or not preparing them correctly.

The strange thing is that tackling has never really been a problem with this team. I don't know where this came from. The defense has been shockingly bad compared to what was expected out of that unit, primarily due to poor tackling and soft zone coverage.

Recognize it was several years ago, two head coaches ago, and with a completely different cast of characters. It was more an anecdote highlighting how the SEC fans put blinders on. It's a good conference. The best teams in the conference could probably give some pro teams a run for their money if not a win on a good day. But they can be beaten by a team outside the conference. And WVU's got the offensive firepower to give themselves a good shot.

I like rugby so I am not disparaging it with this comment. Rugby tackling would not work at the higher levels of football. There is a reason you are taught (in Pop Warner) to break down, wrap, and lift but then you don't see it in college or the pros. It is not an efficient way to tackle highly-skilled ball carriers. If it was, we'd see it.

I disagree, but I also play, so I'm most assuredly a homer. Tackling for the forwards is probably a bit different, but I've always been taught to wrap the legs and roll them. Once you get out to the centers and wings, it's almost all open field tackling with no support where a missed tackle more often than not results in a score. And I play against some solid solid teams(Denver Barbarians, Glendale Raptors, etc) by US standards. So if I can bring them down, a college football player bigger than 5'10" 150 shouldn't have much of an issue. Don't try to level them above the waist, don't arm tackle. Easy peasy.

Remember, in rugby, two of the main reason why wrapping is seen is because it is not legal to hit the guy high and, if I recall correctly, the ball carrier can just get back up and run if you don't hold his ass down. These two things do not matter in American football. Also, while you obviously want to tackle the ballcarrier in rugby as quick as you can, it is not super farking imperative to get him down RIGHT GODDAMN NOW NOW NOW! Every last frigging inch counts in American football. Also, it is much easier to wrap up a ball carrier when there aren't other guys on his team trying to block you. Blocking is not allowed (I don't think) in rugby. The list goes on and on.

You know sports. If tackling any which way you can was NOT the most efficient way to do business in American football, it would've been stopped years ago. They used to wrap and form tackle; now they don't. And there is a good reason for it.

While Hall's dynamic ability definitely fits this offense better, I've always been partial to the bruising power backs. In a different type of offense, Hyde would be the star of the show. Big, powerful, and fast. Shades of Beanie Wells when he runs. He could be a huge factor if we lined up and shoved it down the other team's throat more often.

Alright Boilers, so that wasn't the prettiest win over Marshall today but a victory is still a victory. Non-conference play is done and (unlike the rest of the B1G sans Northwestern), we didn't embarrass ourselves too badly. And this also means that it's Danny Hope's first season where he DIDN'T drop an easily winnable game over a cupcake so that's some good relative progress. We're all fired up and ready to go for Big Ten play!

And as a Miami fan, I am honestly shocked that we are 4-1 at this point (with the only loss being against a very good K-State that just dropped OU), especially with the way the team has been playing. It's probably more sheer luck than anything else right now and the team is still young but watching Morris rise up today was definitely a step in the positive direction. I'll take this record for what it is. Now bring on Notre Damn!!!
