drewogatory: Soulcatcher: drewogatory: Are you being rhetorical or do you really want to know why there are no lenses in her glasses?

It can't be reflection, surely? There must be coatings for that. Anyone who chooses to wear glasses is a moron. The day I got my first set of contacts was farking awesome (well, after the 2 hours of not being able to get them in, that is).

Personally, I find guys who wear glasses really sexy, but that's just me.

Well, if sex was involved, I'd be happy to wear them occasionally. But day to day? Dirt, fingerprints, fogging, moisture, zits under the nosepieces and earpieces that dig into your ears. No thanks.

You sound like a dirtbag.

Her shtick works sometimes, and in some instances it doesn't. It's not rocket surgery.

Dude, I was 12. I imagine the zits wouldn't be much of an issue now, but the memory remains.

Subby nailed it. No hate here, just don't see what the fuss is over these two females. It was like that whole Christina Hendrick drool-fest on here before Sophia Vergara became more known.

No one has brought up Felicia Day? Is she for real, or is her geek schtick as fake as her ecstasy when I make sweet love to her?

She's pretty and popular and therefore she is fake and must be mocked into irrelevance.

Pol Pot also didn't like people who wore glasses.

The Khmer Rouge swept through Cambodia and murdered everyone who wore glasses because they were seen as elitist intelligentsia.

Years later Cambodia is nothing but a big rice growing factory faltering in the wake of the other Asian superproducers because they killed 98% of the intelligent people that lived in their country.

Not until she gets an actual high-profile show, though. As long as she does things that are under-the-radar to the typical TV viewer she is to be worshipped. After, condemnation and hatred.

Maybe your eyesight wasn't as bad as mine, but I was a pretty active kid that spent hours in the water everyday, so only being able to see 10 feet all summer pretty much sucked. Not to mention trying to play football in those bastards. Mugato: Lt_Ryan: What is with the recent hate of Zooey and saying faux geek?

Beats me. I know Zooey was really annoying in that Siri commercial but that doesn't mean she isn't still hot. And from what I can gather Olivia Munn was on some talk show where she pretended to like geek stuff and it turned out that it was all an act and nerds feel betrayed or something. I dunno. Let me know when they make out on that show.

I feel your pain. I really do. Started wearing glasses at 3 and wore them for 20 years and was a pretty active kid. Wore glasses in basic and it was hell, it's why I jumped on the chance for PRK. I don't dive into bushes and low crawl through mud anymore so I don't get the disadvantages anymore. I'd probably still keep some contacts around, but for day to day, I miss my glasses.

Lt_Ryan: What is with the recent hate of Zooey and saying faux geek? There was an interview a while back and her responses were either incredibly well scripted and acted or she is genuinely geeky. I can't find the link but pretty sure it was posted here.

In a real, true, nutshell? Because there have been far too many self and corporately promoted 'nerd goddesses' in the past 5-10 years, and nerds are starting to get jaded and reallize that every cute girl who can read copy probably isn't, in fact, a nerd.

It's marketing overload and typical nerd backlash. Imagine going to strip clubs, and thinking 'man, these girls are REALLY into me' and going back a lot and having fun, and getting attached and mentally/emotionally invested.

Then realizing there are 400,000 strip joints in your town.

I think Zooey is pretty.

Guess what? Most actresses are more concerned about being liked by someone, anyone than they are about being sincere.

Olivia Munn found that through Attack of the Show by pretending to be a hot geek girl who's easy to get into bed. Most people pegged her as a phony from the start, but some guys actually bought into the fantasy, and they started to feel betrayed when they realized they'd been suckered.

(There are such things as hot girls who love technology and who play video games as a pastime, but Munn ain't one of them. I've always felt like Veronica Belmont is the real deal, but she also isn't trying to get on the A-list with her antics.)

Zooey Deschanel opted to go the route of being the cute-but-awkward girl -- a sort of toned-down Katy Perry. It's worked for her, but it doesn't excuse the fact that she's a terrible actress who merely has a likable personality. Again, most people realized this from the start, but a few people have apparently missed the cues and think she's supposed to be something more than she is.

Speaking of which, I feel sorry for anyone who follows The New Girl as anything more than a guilty pleasure. Fans of that show must be better at feeling cognitive dissonance than I am, because I can't get over how sloppy and stupid it is.

Holy shiat, do I have to add IMO in every damn sentence around here? It's freaking implied. Just because I state an opinion doesn't mean I think it's a goddamn absolute (or that you aren't free to disagree). And I see no reason to qualify every statement because some people think you need to be fair and balanced while talking shiat on the internet.

I've always viewed Munn and Day (more so than Deschanel, in my perception) as the kind of sort of chick whose male analog would be a guy from a boy-band. They present exactly the sort of just-subversive-enough image their intended audience wants while not being terribly intimidating (guys in boy bands are tough "bad-boy-ish types" that you can still take home to meet your mother, the girl version plays your video games but will never beat you at them), and are self-aware enough that they know it wins people over if you're good looking enough.

More power to them, I guess. I suppose I'd be an internet millionaire if I could play docile and cutesy-pie.

Deschanel never struck me as so much as "nerdy" as "quirky". She strikes me as if she's seen every movie where the movie takes great pains to point out how "special" the titular character is and says "yeah, I'm going to be that person, FOR REAL".
