Actually, it is. There is no universal frame of reference. So, it's perfectly valid to say that the point you're sitting at is stationary, and the rest of the universe is revolving around you. The physics works the same.

You know how the Earth is oblate due to its rotation (meaning, it bulges at the equator). It turns out that solving Einstein's equations gives you the exact same oblateness if you consider the earth to be stationary with the rest of the universe rotating around it.

This... isn't even wrong.

/time travel is always time and space travel

This is why I preferred Heinlein for time travel. Not just forward and back, but also side to side, and all the extra permutations...

i imagine going back in time would make the time traveler akin to typhoid mary. with all the worldwide germs and viruses and shiate we are exposed today if we were plopped into a major european city in 1812 it would be pandemic.we'd have to be in 'spacesuits' and not allow us to go about undiscovered.

Quantum Leap was actually pretty good. All that was travelling through time was consciousness, rather than any physical matter.

Most time travel rules and paradoxes are limits of the writer and the medium the story is being told in.

The whole argument of "most realistic time travel" is stupid and pointless. No time travel movie is more or less realistic than another, because the term "realistic" simply does not apply to something which is itself unreal. It is like asking which is more realistic, the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny...there is no right answer because they are both the exact opposite of real.

I hate to break this to you, but reality does not have degrees. Something either is, or it is not. The term "realistic" is itself misleading in this regard, as it implies a degradation where none exists.

Stupid thread is stupid.

If they ended up in the same place it would appear they were lost in deep space. Figure the earth is orbiting the sun AND turning. The sun is moving through the Milky Way, which itself is moving through the universe. We'll never notice because we're moving at relatively the same speed. But if you are traveling through time and appearing in the same place, it'd have to be the same place relative to everything else.

Since it's all made up, you can apply whatever rules you like, but it seems to me that you'd need a travel element to your time machine or you're in serious trouble when you jump.

I always though the Bill and Ted movies were the best version of Dr. Who from that time. I mean, Matt Smith never took anyone to see Station.

nmemkha: The best thing about Bill & Ted time travel was there announcing of intent to allow for use of future events in the past. (i.e. "I will stash the car keys in this plant later.")

That one boggled my little kiddie brain a bit. What if they never go back and actually do the task? Are they now cosmically obligated?

As a (teenage) kid myself, I thought that they could have made a pretty awesome sequel where getting all those things done was the main plot.
