The Obama administration has been responsible for one of the biggest screw ups and cover ups and four Americans died as a result.

But let's make fun of Romney's wife, particularly after liberals went bonkers in 2008 the moment word one was said about Michelle Obama.

See I was hoping it would involve an actual mechanized wardrobe, like with a powered lazy-susan style clothes rack that she used to move her outfits from the back to the front (and vice-versa) when deciding what to wear.

That would have been a lot funnier.

So a consulate in an unstable country being attacked and people dying as a result (which, incidentally, has happened under other administrations with some frequency) is a bigger screw up than Bush ignoring all the warnings about 9/11, huh?

A bit.

Temple garments show a constant devotion to god, if you aren't constantly wearing them you aren't constantly devoted, are you? There are several jewish traditions that do similar things with different kinds of clothing, the yamulke is supposed to be worn all the time according to some traditions, or just at certain times according to others.

Mormons are a bit less spread out (artificially-inflated numbers aside) so they have less versions but even within their fairly homogeneous church (not an insult) there is disagreement at how important temple garments are and how seriously to take the claims of miraculous protection (for comparison consider all those worn crosses/rosary beads and the mythology theology surrounding them).

Eight pages. Damn. All boiling down to 'she's not wearing underwear'. And the moderator of the site has a 'blacks in the scripture' link which is totally disingenuous about why the ban/curse existed in the first place, and why it was removed later. So....... what's going to happen next? Because non-Mormons think magic underwear is ridiculous the word from on-high is going to come down that it's not necessary to wear temple garments in the first place, then it's going to come down to tell outsiders that the prophets were mistaken, then claim to outsiders and converts that the prophets never said anything about it whatever gave anyone the idea about magic underwear?

She's being criticized by other Mormons, not liberals. And they're not making fun of her. Instead they feel she's not being a "good Mormon" since she's not wearing the requisite temple garment.

There's no Catholic sacrament telling you to 'wear the beads or die', though. Muslims are different, and more like Mormons. But in Catholicism, nuns wear (or used to wear) wedding rings signifying their marriage to God, but it wasn't something that everyone had to do. I don't even think you're supposed to wear rosary beads as jewelry, but if Grandma does who's going to tell her not to? The vestments like stoles and robes and neckbands and veils and tonsures are not for the laity, they're for those who have devoted their bodies, souls and chastity to the Lord....

...which, I guess the Romneys are, since their positions in the church are not like the laity in the Catholic or Protestant churches, right?

I like Merry Prankster's comment at the 'further light' ex-mormon site: "Either she has gone through a church court for something and been told to remove her garments or the well to do in the church can hire surrogates or proxies to wear their garments for them. My vote is on the latter."

It's really more of a tone poem. You can say fragments of any of his posts in any order and preserve meaning. For example.

Particularly after the biggest screw up and cover ups administration has been responsible for Romney's wife, the moment word 2008 was said about four Americans, liberals went to Michelle Obama and make fun and Obama went bonkers.

A) it's conservatives attacking her

B) there was no cover up the thing you are complaining about was tactics used starting in the bush admin that the people in the Obama admin didn't know about. But keep crying.

Are they allowed to roll up the legs or something?

Or perhaps hers are a variety of "special garments" (warning: PDF) used by Mormons who work as police, firefighters, or are in the military?

It seems they either sew in a special patch or silk screen some kind of insignia into standard issue underwear for these individuals. I do not know if there are any other variations allowed regarding temple garments. I guess that's up to those who god tells what to say to everyone else about what they're allowed to wear..

I do care about this. If you believe god gave all of the weird commands like "wear this underwear", then you're even more likely to believe that god gave other commands such as "don't ever allow anyone else to use birth control". If you're willing to base your own actions on what you believe god said, then once you have authority, won't you be more likely to base your orders on what god said?

So don't we need to pay attention to what Mitt Romney believes god said? And isn't it also important to know how seriously he takes his faith, since many religions might see his failing to use his authority to act as they believe god has commanded would be a moral failure on his part, and put at risk his immortal soul?
