No "Little Mermaid" box cover?

Also, some of those were ... pretty obvious, even as a child. Especially the Ren & Stimpy one.

Well, I did mark the link. Don't want to have 47 tabs open ten minutes from now, don't click that link.

Or this one. Definitely don't click this link to TV Tropes if you want to go to bed at some time tonight before sunrise. Hell, just hover over this link to see the url and you'll understand why I'm warning you not to click this particular link.

There should be way more examples coming out of Animaniacs.

I remember a Jetsons episode where George thought Judy was eloping w/a musician. He ran to a Vegas-style chapel to see if she was there and was told the chapel was all booked due to a group of Jupiterian polygamists.

The raunchiest one I remember is from the Flintstones. Fred & Barney go costume shopping and Fred suggests Barney try on a costume head. Barney's response was something like, "I don't need another head. I've already got 2"

Of course, there's always the old standby:

"Ward, I think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night..."

This. It seemed like there was one suggestive joke per scene per episode.

Also "Rocko's Modern Life" was THE most delightfully subversive toon on Nickelodeon back then.

What was the Shrek joke? Can someone explain it to me?

I guess it's a good thing I've had those scenes from that episode firmly implanted in my head since I was 10 or whatever. I think that and the Chokey Chicken restaurant were my first inklings that perhaps Rocko was more than just another kid's show.

I think the oldest cartoon they have there is Ren and Stimpy (which came out when I was 22)

I'm a bit surprised nothing from Invader Zim wasn't listed (although rarely scatological much of the humor was, quite frankly nihilistic and really not appropriate for kids below a certain age)

2012-09-29 02:04:58 AM
My favorite is a Spongebob/BlazingSaddles/Ilikerape one

n 20,000 Patties Under The Sea:
SpongeBob: BYE SQUIDWARD! BYE MR. KRABS! (seductively) Bye, Squidward.
Patrick: Hey, you said 'Bye, Squidward' twice!
SpongeBob (remaining somewhat seductive): I like Squidward.

2012-09-29 02:06:30 AM
None of those were really kid's cartoons. Throw in some sex jokes from Bob the Builder and Dora the Explorer and you might have something.

I dated a chick in college who wore a Spongebob thong... it was officially licensed merchandise.

Snapper Carr: I'm a bit surprised nothing from Invader Zim wasn't listed was listed (although rarely scatological much of the humor was, quite frankly nihilistic and really not appropriate for kids below a certain age)

Ugh.

Not a double negative - just slapdash real time editing.

Bugs bunny used to wear a dress and kiss men.

Also one, little, two little, three little Indians boys

There's another Animaniacs one that sticks out: Some teacherly lady is lecturing Yakko about verbs, and says, "Now let's conjugate together," and Yakko turns to face the audience and says, "Okay. Good night, everybody!"

2012-09-29 02:26:32 AM
I was expecting a lot of Foghorn Leghorn quotes...

She remi - I say, she reminds me of Paul Revere's ride. A little light in the belfry.

Gal reminds me of the highway between Fort Worth and Dallas. No curves.

This is going to cause more confusion than a mouse at a burlesque show.

That boy's so dumb, he thinks a Mexican boarder pays rent.

I got, I say I got this boy as fidgety as a bubble dancer with a slow leak.

Say, boy, you cover about as much as a flapper skirt in a high wind

There were some other good Looney Tunes (or Merry Melodie) ones...

She's about as helpless as a porcupine in a nudist colony.

Ooh, hoo hoo hoo!! I haven't had THIS much fun since the boys got back from Gettysburg!!!

And now your local company will present gas chamber music for - I, I, I, I mean your local gas company will present chamber music for your enjoyment.

Brother. What a Leonardo da Punchy. What a Too-Lousy Lautrec.

There was another I think I remember, something about a nudist colony on an iceberg...

Ugh, I hated Rocko, Ren and Stimpy and the Sponge.... those shows were just gross and not funny all all.

Rugrats were good, a few adult jokes thrown in are for the parents benefit who get stuck listening to kids programming ALL FARKING DAY.

I figure it's insanity insurance. Hard to get kids to watch your stuff if parents keep putting baseball bats through the TV.

Simpsons did it!

This one is still my favorite: Twangers and Balls^ [NSFW]

"If you haven't got any balls, you can ask a friend if you can play with his."

2012-09-29 02:43:45 AM
You could make a much longer list based on Ren and Stimpy alone. Even as a kid I remember thinking this show wasn't appropriate for children. Rocko was fairly dirty too.

2012-09-29 02:47:42 AM

The All-Powerful Atheismo: Not one of those was from when I was a child. Not one. And I'm not that old.

You're in your 30s then, right? Those were 90s cartoons.

They forgot the "sword swallower" scene from Ren & Stimpy.

Not so much a joke, but Animaniacs flat out referenced Heidi Fleiss in one of their songs.

2012-09-29 02:55:34 AM
I don't think that Ren & Stimpy example was from the 90s cartoon on Nick, but from the awful adult cartoon that John K. made years later. Also, a lot of these are kind of a reach. Legs from Toy Story is a hooker? Really?

nitpick, etc.

2012-09-29 02:58:35 AM
cartoons you loved as a child ... yeah, that list covers you gen y or whatever the hell you are, but in my day... nevermind.
One thing many do not know, or have not thought about. You 40's-60's farkers will get this little joke.
In the Grinch film, everyone is putting their keys into a fishbowl. That was called a key party- girls grab keys and go home with the man that owned the keys.
Heh

2012-09-29 03:04:34 AM
I dunno, us lousy gen y people watched plenty of Loony Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, Jetsons, Flinstones, etc. Cartoon Network played plenty of old cartoons.

My mom wouldn't let me and my sister watch R&S. We were nine and eight at the time. But we loved Animaniacs; apparently it "got crap past the radar" much easier by pretending to be clean.

2012-09-29 03:22:31 AM
Like the entire character of Pepe Le Pew?
And that Bugs Bunny seemed to like dressing up as a woman way too much?
Or that Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd were impotent even with all their guns?
Sniffles was just Speedy Gonzalez after he came down from his cocaine high.
The Three Bears family showed that spousal abuse can be funny if your child is retarded.

Angry Beavers did an entire episode on masturbation

Pretty much. Adults will chuckle at subtle adult humor, Ren and Stimpy and Rocko didn't do subtle humor, they just blasted it straight in everyone's face. Also, Animaniacs was fairly educational, although I think my mother was going to duct tape me and throw me in the closet if I ever sang the 'Countries of the World!' song again.

/man I loved Animaniacs as a child

They're only angry if you don't do it enough...

I remember a scene from "The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog" where a bad guy was in some sort of trance and to get him out of it another bad guy threw a pail of water on him, when he awoke he said "Hey! Why am I all wet?" to which the other robot said "I don't know perhaps it was a dream?"

Watching old clips of this show, it's pretty subversive...
