(Diffuser)   Coachella is so desperate for a Smiths reunion they're offering to make the whole festival a vegetarian paradise because meat, you see, is murder as far as Morrissey is concerned   (diffuser.fm) divider line 12

Maynotlast: There's still a "Coachella?"

It's a shallow, hollow, pathetic shell of it's former existence, serving only as a vehicle for hipsters and fashion-whores...kind of like Morrissey.

forgotmydamnusername: Eh? They were more bland, popish-sounding stuff in a mass of it. It doesn't sound anything like the Byrds or something like that.

I recognize that as English, but I have no idea what the hell you're on about.

There was a guy playing guitar in Culture Club, too

Well consider *me* told then!

At least their front-man wasn't closeted, nor quite so aggressively self-righteous.

No, he was a silly drag queen who pined for the mostly straight drummer he'd had an affair with (and who wasn't interested in getting back together) before becoming a heroin addict train-wreck who nodded out on stage and in interviews and hasn't been popular or relevant for close to 25 years now. Win for Boy George!

If the punk rock of the period was too macho and stupid for you

I was/am a huge fan of The Clash, Pistols from earlier, The Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, a bunch of stuff on the SST label contemporaneous with The Smiths. So, another easily refuted non-point from you, you're doing well.

Oingo Boingo

Loved 'em, saw them a bunch of times (easy when you live in Los Angeles), even saw them once in the Mystic Knights days. We Close Our Eyes is one of my favorite songs.

PIL

Love the first two albums, the rest, not so much apart from a few singles.

The Replacements

[Fat,] Drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

Violent Femmes

Love the first album, after that, meh.

R.E.M.

Was in to them from the minute I heard Radio Free Europe on KROQ, one of my very favorite bands if I can ignore the post Bill Berry stuff.

all sorts of stuff that struck me as either more interesting or at least less horrible to listen to.

All that stuff you mentioned was common, mainstream "underground" or "college radio" stuff that any record buying nerd in to rock music knew about, not some great polar opposite to The Smiths like Crass.

Plus, total fail for not mentioning Hüsker Dü.

I would seriously consider paying for someone's ticket and travel just so they could lob chunks of flesh at the twat during the first song, causing him to storm off in a huff and cancel the gig.
The only downside is that I would be indirectly giving him my money to continue promoting his message of hate and intolerance.

Saw the Smiths back when they were touring to support The Queen is Dead. In those care free pre-internet days I had limited exposure to them outside of their actual albums, so I was blissfully unaware of what a farking twat moz was. It was a good show but that had more to do with Johnny Marr than morrissey.

Would love to see the Smiths with another vocalist, or some of Marr's other projects / collaborations, but I've got no interest in anything morrissey and his whiny, overly dramatic delivery are part of.

/In honor of this thread i'm going to eat some veal tomorrow.
//And every May I donate money to Ducks Unlimited (an organization that preserves wetlands for the purpose of hunting) in morrissey's name.
///Finally, if he pulls stunt like Coachella ("I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it's human") I'm going to sponsor someone in the Newfoundland seal hunt in his name.

I went to see The Pretenders at House of Blues in Orlando a few years (10?) ago. Ms. Hynde went far, far out of her way between EVERY GODDAMN SONG to let us know she was a vegetarian and what effing assh*les carnivores were. We paid our money to hear you sing, Hon, not shout at us.

We ordered the baby back ribs in her honor.

//biatch didn't even sing Brass In Pocket...
