No matter how hard you try, you'll never fully understand someone else's plight. It's actually pretty damn offensive for some hateful Fox News harpy to come along and tell you she knows you better than you.

And I find it hilarious that you're defending Ann Coulter and talking about "unity." Coulter is one of the most divisive hateful teabaggers in America. She regularly writes books about how liberals are "traitorous demons" nshiat.

From the wiki machine...

The aftermath of the flood was one factor in the Great Migration of African-Americans to northern cities. During an era in which racism was commonplace, blacks built levees at gunpoint, starved in refugee camps and many were left to fend for themselves during the flood, while whites were rescued.[5] Previously, the move from the rural South to the Northern cities had virtually stopped. The flood waters began to recede in June 1927, but interracial relations continued to be strained. Hostilities had erupted between the races; a black man was shot by a white police officer when he refused to be conscripted to unload a relief boat.[6][7] As a result of displacements lasting up to six months, tens of thousands of local African-Americans moved to the big cities of the North, particularly Chicago; many thousands more followed in the following decades.[8]

The flood propelled Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover, who was in charge of flood relief operations, into the national spotlight and set the stage for his election to the presidency, but indirectly contributed to his defeat four years later. The flood also aided Huey Long's election to the governorship of Louisiana in 1928.[9]:408-409, 477, 487 Hoover was much lauded for his masterful handling of the refugee camps, but later concerns over the treatment of blacks in those camps caused him to make promises to the African-American community which he later broke, losing the black vote in his reelection campaign.[9]:259-290, passim Several reports on the terrible situation in the refugee camps, including one by the Colored Advisory Commission by Robert Russa Moton, were kept out of the media at Hoover's request, with the pledge of further reforms for blacks after the presidential election. When he failed to deliver, Moton and other influential African-Americans helped to shift the allegiance of Black Americans from the Republican party to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the Democrats.[9]:415

The flood resulted in a great cultural output as well, inspiring a great deal of folklore and folk music. Charlie Patton, Bessie Smith, Barbecue Bob, and many other blues musicians wrote songs about the flood. Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie's "When the Levee Breaks" was reworked by Led Zeppelin, and became one of that group's most famous songs. William Faulkner's short story "Old Man" (in the book If I Forget Thee Jerusalem) was about a prison break from Parchman Penitentiary during the flood. Several decades after the flood, Randy Newman wrote the song "Louisiana 1927," Zachary Richard wrote the song "Big River," and Eric Bibb wrote the song "Flood Water" about it.

I am neither a democrat or a republican. I am a commonsenseian... When all parties going in are expecting a fight, nothing good will come from it. More division. More labels. More living in the past. While one party that is owned by rich white old dudes cries that a "mooselim" is running the country, the other party that is owned by rich old white dudes says we are for equality of all races..... as long as they live in a different neighborhood. All I got from that was "Liberals are the real racists", "Republican policies in NY saved thousands of black lives" and "White guilt prevented juries from convicting even obviously guilty black people until the OJ Simpson case".

Then blood started to shoot out of my nose and I had to shut it off.

It's truly hilarious, albeit a little frightening, to listen to conservatives talk about how the Republicans were the big champions for blah folks. It ended with Roosevelt, you morons. The big Miz-zipi flood of the late 20's right before Hoover was elected in '28. The GOP abandoned the poor Southern blacks, and the Dems courted them. Then Truman integrated the armed forces in '48. Then Johnson signed the '64 civil rights act. Then Strom and all the boys headed for the GOP's big taint..er..tent...Southern Strategy a myth? I moved from the DC suburbs of NoVa to Raleigh in the late 80's. Jesse Helms campaign against Harvey Gant in 1990 was classic. The 'hands ad'. Oh...and then there was Willie Horton courtesy of Lee Atwater in '88 against Dukakis. Among hundreds, if not thousands of other examples, of course. Coulter is a typical conservative revisionist apologist. What she spouts is total crap.

This even leads him to support some civil rights efforts.

"Maintenance of Negro voting rights in Dixie, far from being contrary to G.O.P. interests, is essential of Southern conservatives are to be pressured into switching to the Republican Party-for Negroes are beginning to seize control of the national Democratic Party in some black-belt areas," he writes.

ExperianScaresCthulhu: What is there to eyeroll about? Your own statement above is similar to what blacks were told by whites (some of whom called themselves allies trying to help) post-Reconstruction through dawn-of-Civil-Rights-era. It is also similar to what women of color were told by white women throughout the gestation and birthing of the suffragist movements and women's lib. It is also similar to what transexuals are told by both homo men and lesbian women in the Alphabet Soup battles for Recognition, Marriage Equality and Beyond.

The Democrats are not on it. A fire must continually be forced beneath feet. The other part of your comment above is that such shifts have a way of going in .. unintentional .. directions, which only seem out of nowhere. Democrats have made a mistake in treating the varied issues of Hispanics as though from one monolith group, and they will pay for it if they continue to sleep on it.

That is something to be concerned about, is it not.

Nope, not really. The demographics of the democratic party ARE shifting, as are the demographics of the leadership (The Pres is BLACK yo! Most of the Dems elected in the state of NM are of Mexican and hispanic decent... it's like THEY KNOW)

What I don't get is why people assume just because someone who is not of the same race or ethnicity that they cannot comprehend or explain how a race other than their own feels over particular issues.

We need more understanding and less victimization in this world.

It's like you must only have a certain mindset or affiliation in order to lay claim to know how x group feels. When clearly that is not the truth even when claims my be spoken by someone of their own ethnicity. And since this is the case, then fark what is the use to assume you know right from wrong? What is worth in learning anything from anyone and sharing that knowledge in front of others.

Only to be rebuffed because you are not a part of the ethnicity you talk about?
That is ridiculous and only promotes division of people.

To assume someone of another race cannot speak about what people of another race may feel is in and of itself contributing to racists bias. And NOT promoting unity.

And for those who could not keep their heads straight for 5 seconds can clearly hear in this video, that Ann was talking about perceptions and efforts of the White people. While attempting to put forth historical notes in front of all these hens squawking away.
