Last of the Crazy People: K.B.O. Winston: Russ1642: What's a concert rider?

Legit question? It's something added to the contract venues must sign to get a band to appear. When one band (forget which) had a lot of lighting/electrical demands that truly needed to be met or their equipment could be dangerous to handle, they wrote in a rider about green M&Ms in the dressing room.

This way, when they walked into the dressing room, they knew whether or not someone had actually read the entire contract, including the list of required electricity requirements for their show.

/it also resulted in M&Ms

Ya, it was KISS. Considering the amount of pyro and flying around on guy wire and safety harness those guys did I sure would want to know somebody had read the contract thoroughly.

Nope...it was brown M & Ms and the band was Van Halen.

Wonder if by having riders that are not attainable / reasonable, the rest of the contracts needed riders could become moot if something went wrong.

33 years on, his interview on Countdown, on the Federal government owned TV station, still gets included in Australia's 10 Most Memorable TV Moments type lists.

RussianPooper: cgraves67: Russ1642: What's a concert rider?

It's the performers' contract with the venue stating their requirements to perform. It usually contains information regarding stage space, electrical specifications, and other technical details. For high level performers, you will see ridiculous demands regarding catering and other weird things.

I read somewhere that the reason the ridiculous things get included has less to do with the performers being prima donnas (in general) and more with making sure the venue pays attention to the important requirements regarding equipment and such.

Yeah. If you walk into the dressing room and see the bottle of orphan tears you can safely assume everything else is taken care of and just concentrate on putting on a good show.

Seen iggy open for Pearl jam '95 in Milwaukee. He was angry with someone in the front row, and sang his encore bent over, sans pants in this guys face. Fantasstic!

theorellior: The fact that Iggy Pop managed to see age 65 is proof positive of the regenerational capabilities of the human body.

We must study him, Keith Richard, and Lou Reed. There must be something we can extract from them and synthesize.

I think that rock stars get pretty clean drugs, so if they don't OD, they are pretty well OK. Street drugs can have cogeners, reaction intermediates, lye, traces of crappy solvents, unhealthy diluents, etc.

Yeah, but there would have been an over abundance of quirk, had he played anything other than straight man. From Crispin Glover on the train, to iggy, Billy, and john Hurt...oh man, going to have to pop it in again."where's you get that clown suit? Cleveland? Get out"
