Love the sidebar links:

Testicle-eating cousin to the piranha found in Illinois lake.

Giant shrimp raises big concern as it invades the Gulf.

The second one sounds like an excellent horror movie.

This is really bad news. They've been expanding throughout the Caribbean and Gulf for years and nothing seems to stop them.

All we need is Discovery Channel to start up a new series: "Deadliest Catch: Lionfish Hunters" and we'll hunt those suckers to extinction.

But, how will you get the gorillas to wear the SCUBA gear?

Am I the only one who read the article and thought it was saying that this was the first time a lionfish was caught on video EVER, not just in Texas?

Also, aren't they tasty? Sounds like we need a butter solution.

Is that why I read the headline as "Jesus Christ, it's a boat! Get in the lionfish!"? Because that didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

According so some restaurants down in Florida and throughout the Caribbean, they're apparently delicious when pan seared in some lemon juice, so I assume this problem will eventually correct itself.

That's the beauty of it! When the gorillas run out of breath, they simply drown.

Win, win, win.

We'll get rid of the lion fish, the people who "star" on the show AND the idiots who imitate their favorite "stars".

It already has in a few spots. A number of dive shops in the Caribbean set up restaurants right next door, with chefs trained to filet and cook lionfish (the poison spines make that problematic without the right gloves and such).

Lionfish populations dropped dramatically in those places...

My uncle got stung by one a few decades ago while working at my mothers aquarium store. Had to call poison control in Hawaii. He was out of commission for days. Theres a reason no predators fark with these bastards.

They are. I ate them a few times a week when I lived in Micronesia. Really easy to catch since they don't have any fear of humans.

Kill 'em. Eat 'em. They're an invasive species in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Had a mental picture of Jesus strolling across the water and someone coming up to him in a boat and yelling this.

I kept one as a pet for years, he died about a year ago. Beautiful, and quite a personality. He would actually show off for guests, fanning his fins out and following people's movements. He would stalk and eat the cleaning crew, which was frustrating, but I must say, these creatures are smart and interesting, one of the coolest pets I ever had.

I used to have one in a fish tank. It cost $25 or so and was probably captured by dynamiting a reef or something.

Little did I know.

Having shot a dozen in the last month alone, they are a huge problem in south Florida. I shoot em all sizes, even too small to eat. A net and a dive knife for the tiny ones. Excellent sashimi as well. Sushi place at the lantana boat docks has them when the local captains do.
