You now have the Banana Phone song in your head, with "Obamaphone" substitued in.

I have been assured by a friend of mine that Obama literally gives free iPhones to poor black people, so it must be true.

2012-09-28 09:32:16 AM
So Obama is not walking around Cleveland handing out smartphones to low-income citizens on the taxpayer's dollar to gin up votes.

Someone best tell this lady then. No that she'll believe you but the reaction would be fun to watch.

If you don't have a phone, it's difficult for potential employers to contact you. It seems to me that if we want to get people off public assistance and into paying jobs, subsidizing their phones would be a good first step.

Why is Limbaugh opposed to getting people off welfare and into work?

He thinks it's about time to hold the line on Reagan socialism.

I know it was a horrible thing to do, but a couple of months ago I was engaged in a conversation with an elderly, very racist caucasian relative. In the midst of his/her Obama bashing, s/he mentioned "But he did get me one of those life-line phones." It crossed my mind to say "Well, no not really ..." But I didn't. Instead, I engaged in a form of dishonesty by just nodding and agreeing "Yep, you wouldn't have that phone if it weren't for Obama." Later, I tried to justify it to myself by reasoning that Republicans might cut any funding that supports the program someday.

My right wing co-worker came stomping into the office about the Obama phone and how it's cost tax payers 1.6 BILLION DOLLARS. I said can I fact check that for you? And she replied "you can just see the video on youtube for proof". Uh, yeah, that's not where I get political information.

True. You have to read the comments to the video to get political information.

Funny, my super conservative friends decry them as "Obama phones" as an example of the waste and abuse rampant in his system. You'd think they'd be falling over themselves to claim the program to pick up these critical votes!

I'm sure this delightful woman has a long list of prospective employers that she's waiting to hear from.

How can Fartbammeybanjo afford fancy arugala and dijon mustard when he's giving away so many free iphones to blah people?

I was shocked to find out it was a real program.

From now on i'm gonna start referring to everything as an Obama. Obamaphone, Obamainternet (yes, Obama invented the internet!), Obamamail, ObamaArmy, Obamaroads Obamagas, Obamacar, Obamabeer, Obamapizza, Today is Friday, I got my Obamacheck DirectObamadeposited in my Obamachecking Account at the Obamabank, I'ma sit at my Obamahome and drink Obamabeer and watch Obamamovies on my Obamatron flatscreen tonight. Then slip into my Ojamas and pass Obamaout

Obviously these are $600 iPhones. Cause if it's one thing rednecks hate, it's seeing a black person on welfare with a $600 iPhone!

What Lifeline (free Obama phone) really is:

For wireless carriers it is just an additional discount for service
The free phone is the same free cheapass phone anyone else can get
Wireless is not available in every state
It requires two forms of ID to enroll.
The discount is similar to the very best discounts provided to the largest companies

It is really just a handout to the wireless companies. They get more customers and between the customer and the government - they get the whole bill payed at an undiscounted rate. Since wireless companies give decent discounts to employees of almost any company - this works out great for the telco because they get the full service rate.

Conservative Operative would have been the GOP's response.

It doesn't matter if this is all bullshiat. Republicans have decided they want to believe it, so therefore it's true, and all the facts in the world aren't going to change their "mind".

Poor grandparents may have a vested interest in owning a telephone of some sort. This program addresses that need.

This woman was more than lilkely one of the people that was paid $11.00 an hour by SEIU to partcipate in this little spectacle. So she has a job and is taking from someone who is in true need. Either that or she is spending her time marching around and acting the fool rather than pounding the pavement and handing out her phone number to prospective employers.

If it's the latter maybe you can give her a job. She seems to be a good customer liason type.

Damn Obama.

THIS. I work at a computer lab where we help the homeless and recently homeless learn skills and look for work. We refer people to this program.

No one is going to call you for a job if you don't have a phone. "Lifeline" is aptly named.

Click on the farking "What is the Obamaphone" link.

The term "the Obama Phone" has been all around since the day Barack Obama became the president of the United States of America. Many people think that Obama is giving free cellphones to the poor in order to redistribute the wealth of rich people. Since then two groups are mudslinging at each other.

It's true that government provides free cellphones to the poor and disabled people. But the Obama part is not true as Obama didn't initiate this program. It's on the run since the administration of Reagan. This program has two parts: one is called the 'Link-Up' which provided free landline connection to the poor and the other is called the 'Lifeline' which provides waiver on telephone bills.

This.

Most states have a discount on phone service for extremely low income families anyway. Outrage here seems to be that the horrible kenyan muslin might just be doing something good for poor people(and due to discriminatory socio-economic policies, these people tend to be blah, and furthermore).

Nah, it's run by some random company who makes money signing up people for these phones. People slap Obama's name on all sorts of things.

Clearly, Obama is spending all his time creating websites.

Yesterday, there was a guy at an intersection near my office, begging for money.

He had a sign:

VOTE GOP
THEY ARE OUR ONLY HOPE
DON'T END UP LIKE ME

Begging for money is bootstrappy.

You're right, more low-income families need help with their bills. I'm glad you heavily support such socialism.
