You do realize we're talking about France here. There are only 15 billionaires in the whole country. The richest man in France is Bernard Arnault. He owns Louis Vuiton Moet Hennessy. Do you realize the marketing nightmare he faces if he's not French? Or how much defense business the Dassault family would lose if they leave? This may be the dumbest comment ever.

this x 100000 . People fail to realize there are plenty of other people who will gladly scoop up that 25% or 55% of a short metric shiateload of money if the diamond dusted vaginas leave because they cant get it all. I openly scoff at the idea of "talent without replacement" . Liars, bullshiatters and con artists are in abundance.

I have to explain to people almost weekly where I work that something >0 is in fact >0 ..

For them maybe, but not every french company/billionaire depends on the romantic notion that their product is french. Michelin probably doesn't give a shait about being french. That is who you have to worry about pissing off, the big company with 23000 employees in your country.
Implying that all french companies/billionaires are rich because they're french? Just as close to 'dumbest comment ever'.

It does give us a "lab" where we can see what happens before we try anything similar.

Me , If I was rich and faced taxes like that I'd move.

Exactly, in that FARKING RETARDED BOOK BY RAND she assumed the Galt's of the world would up and leave and we would all stand around holding our collective dicks wondering what we could possibly do.

Fark that noise.

Anyone think they can do their bosses job better than their boss? They will step up and do their bosses jobs, better than their boss.

People out there whose ideas can't get going because of a de facto monopoly run by the GAltians? Blammo, here's your chance, they went Galt, no one is minding the store and the level of collusion will be at all time lows...

By the time Galtians realized the world would indeed continue to spin with them and blessed us with their presence again, they would have to reapply for their former positions, and unfortunately, there wouldn't be any openings at this time. But thaaaanks.

Whenever I see 'Going Galt' I know I am dealing with an absolute farking idiot.

Funny that Bernard Arnault is mentioned here.

Looks like he is already applying to Belgium for citizenship.

Here is the article

It only applies to salary income. The billionaires and other rich get most of their income from capital gains, dividends, interest, etc.

And I can almost guaran-damn-tee that the nouveau riche wouldn't mind paying those taxes. If those rates "permitted" their success, clearly, they're not that onerous.

This is actually a good chunk of Heinlein's work: "All the pampered geniuses left their creative bunkers to find a place where they could be accepted as the true-born kings of humanity, sadly, Lucifer's got that on lockdown so they'll have to settle for junior positions." ~ RAH regarding why Socialism is farking retarded.

Going Galt isn't about individuals doing it. It's about the talent pool as a whole. What do you think will happen to France's ability to have a working economy when the top tier of the talent go elsewhere? The next best will still be good but not as good. It's an erosion of the talent pool that will be the result of going Galt.

The talent won't go away. It will just go somewhere else. Why do you think there are so few people capable of making buggy whips? The skill to make them is there but it's used elsewhere. When the people with the guns aka government decide to make things difficult if not downright impossible to do X, the people will either do Y or go do X elsewhere. If X just happens to be a major part of your economy, whoops. You're up shiat creek and the guy making the paddles isn't making them anymore.

The leading French industries are Aviation/Defense, Pharmaceuticals, Tourism and Retail sales. The only one of those that could possibly shift production is Pharma, but that is the one industry that is still heavily controlled by the state, so again, where are these people supposed to go? You think they will move the Mona Lisa or start making the A380 in Bangalore? Sonofi is already set up in typical European fashion with the production distributed worldwide and research in Paris and patents owned by the Irish subs. There will be some minor shifting of production but their economy will be in the shiatter because of the Euro zone not anything related to their taxation policies.

You mean leave France? Most rich people are easily replaced, and so are what they have of talents. There are very few Steve Jobs in this world. It's when the educated leave that one should worry.

Indeed. Such a great experiment, and on the backs of another nation. Will France soar above the other nations now that they tax the rich so heavily? Will the wealthy flee or perhaps just stop trying so hard to get that second million per year? Will this save or sink the Euro? If is succeeds, all of Europe will follow their example, and if it fails, hey, IT'S FRANCE! HA HA.
