On the radio today, the poptart DJ was wondering why the author goes by E.L. in instead of her real name. The reason? Women authors switch to initials because of bias. So this book isn't as "liberating" as most biatches believe.

It had better star Gilbert Gottfried.

Heck, every third episode of SVU is pretty much "Fifty Shades of Grey in Real Life."

I stopped watching when i learned that Meloni was off the show. I was very disappointed that his role on True Blood was a short one.

Not a 50 Shades girl but i'd gladly play games with Meloni. Rawr.

Stupid NBC.

They should have kept original Law and Order around so they had a cop show where every episode wasn't about rape, murder, raping murder victims, and fisting midgets.

Hey. Sometimes it's just about a straight up custody dispute related kidnapping.

It has nothing to do with keeping the show topical. It's an easy episode for them to write (revisiting old material, really) for the final season, and it helps keep interest in the upcoming 50 Shades film - which also falls under the NBC Universal umbrella alongside Law & Order - alive.

They're making a movie version of a book that was a fanfic of a movie that was a book?
By the way, is that Maggie Gyllenhall film Secretary any good? I heard it mentioned in some other FSOG thread.

"final season"?

You work for NBC/U and know something the rest of the world doesn't?

Even though the show is old, it's still one of NBC's highest rated shows. You don't kill off a high rated show.

Yes. And even though I have issues with some of the finer points of the story it's light years ahead of 50 Shades. It's also the only Romantic Comedy that Future Mr Mouse and I can snuggle up and watch together. You'd think I would be asking him to face plant on a hot stove if I asked if he'd be interested in watching Love Actually during the holidays or something.

I just kind of nodded in agreement then realized you meant that as hyperbole.

The show is called Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. It's focus is on sex crimes. And it's been on the air for fourteen years. So I'm going to take a wild guess and say that they've already done a few episodes focusing on BDSM.

It's certainly a better representation of a D/s relationship, I'll give it that much. But I generally didn't like The Secretary. Dunno... I guess I can't see James Spader as anything else but Alan Shore from Boston Legal (I was introduced to him via that before I saw The Secretary), and it took away from the experience. Oh well.

The lady sitting next to me on a plane yesterday had that stupid POS out to read. I kept mashing the little red button up by the lights thinking it was an ejection seat until the flight attendants told me to cut it out.

I remain convinced the entire 50 Shades craze is women punishing themselves for something.

Problem being, most people who had discussed & accepted BDSM before this shiat started know that it's not actually BDSM and that it doesn't actually adhere to the principals therein. And, like the Twilight saga was done a billion times better by Anne Rice, so was the Fifty Shades trilogy (in the Sleeping Beauty trilogy). Which EL James essentially ripped off the story arc to. And made it tamer for her sensibilities. All after starting by writing Twilight fanfic.

\have I mentioned I dislike the Fifty Shades trilogy, as does my girlfriend?
\\Have to remember who the author is of the Kink book I read before she started me on it, it's very enlightening

Isn't this what the L&O SVU writers do? They base most of their episodes on recent high profile news stories or current popular societal trends. Knowing this why would it surprise anybody that they would base an episode on this book.

The wife was making a fuss about reading it a while back and borrowed a copy. She got a few chapter in then tossed it. This is the same woman who watches True Blood religiously.

Agreed. I read the 1st book in the Sleeping Beauty trilogy years ago, but I've never read 50 Shades of Grey. One interested me, one does not at all. I just enjoy thinking of more men believing that more women might into BDSM. Perhaps it could at least lead to more discussion (orders)
