On one hand you have paying diners who love it. Maybe solely because it's owned by Gagas parents.
On the other you have food critics loathing the food. Maybe for the same reason.

If the paying customers like it you can tell all the paid and self-proclaimed food critics to go fark themselves. How much merit does a critic have when the word "herpes" is used in a review?

Yeah, but like all celebrity restaurants it probably is truly lousy.

it does sounds like those critics hate it because its owned by gaga's parents. the chef was oprah's personal chef, how can it be worse than herpes?

Oprah's personal chef you say? No wonder Gaga put on a few pounds. Also her parents seem normal and surprisingly down to earth.

Consideringthe competition from the gazillions of eateries in N.Y., They seem to be doing OK. It will likely get better now since they have received all the free publicity. The system works. Oh yeah, L.G. still looks just fine ta' me!

Look what the critic ordered. Squid & Osso bucco. Both dishes suck ass no matter how they are prepared.

It actually sounds like the opposite to me. The critics are being pretty honest, and a lot of the rave reviews from customers are just that because the restaurant is associated with Lady Gaga and other celebrities. Like the fan that proclaimed how cute the place is. I don't care how cute it is, how is the food?

And it doesn't matter if they have a great chef if her mom is creating the recipes and those recipes aren't that great. It doesn't matter if it's cooked to the best of his ability if he doesn't have good recipes or decent ingredients to work with. Plus he's probably not able to oversee every single meal that goes out, and who knows how the rest of his staff are. He can't do much if he has crappy staff.
Plus the place does seem a bit overpriced for the staples they're serving, even considering the location.

My favorite restaurant is around that price for more creative cuisine with fresh ingredients and flown in fresh daily seafood, and has never had the type of crappy reviews that this place is seeing, and people go out of their way just to eat there despite it being fairly obscure and not advertising. And it doesn't even have to compete with a bunch of other restaurants like in NYC, even though it very well could. (I actually can't understand why it's located in a small town in TX, when it outdoes every expensive gourmet restaurant I've tried in various major cities)
On the other hand their menu changes weekly depending on what kind of fresh ingredients they can get. A lot of the problems I've encountered with expensive italian restaurants is that they have massive static menus, so their food doesn't get turned over as much as it should, nor do the staff end up cooking a lot of the entrees very often to master them, so anything but the staple spaghetti and meatballs and such are hit or miss. A lot of restaurants would do better to stick with a few staple dishes and give people less options, but cook those dishes as best they can with the freshest and highest quality ingredients they can find.

Cooking for small groups or occasional dinner parties is not the same thing as cooking for however many people a restaurant seats in an evening.

They do. How did they breed such a freak of nature? The night of Gaga's conception should have been a blowjob.

In other news, the food critic has openly admitted that they have the herp.
