Bet they won't think it's so funny when they get their arses beat in prison. Not sure what aggravated assault will get you, but I sincerely hope it's at least 5 years.

I wonder what happened to these kids that they're so indifferent to beating the crap outta someone. Maybe some time with a shrink wouldn't hurt either (seriously).

I am going to keep my sanity this evening by not watching the video.

For fark's sake, even the neighbor was drunk when they interviewed him. It's a bad neighborhood.

But when did local news start showing pictures of underage kids? They paused on this during the story for a good five seconds, and I assume it's because they already picked those kids up:

Before anyone gets all pissy - that's from the video in the story.

Seriously? You don't remember the kids who were just plainly, stupidly mean when you were growing up? You must have led a very sheltered life. IIRC, the parents of some of those kids were completely oblivious to the delinquent behavior of their children, while others defended their kids' delinquent behavior by telling everyone else that they should take it as a life lesson. If it had been a true life lesson, a lot of those bastards would have wound up in jail for some of the things they did.

I know better than to watch things like that.

The description is upsetting enough.

Same thing goes with animal cruelty. Can't watch it.

It doesn't help that Fark likes to post headlines like "Pack of dogs mauls child -- video not for the faint of heart" and it's actually five Golden Retriever puppies crawling over a laughing toddler.

Seriously. I remember being a kid quite well, and I was small until college too. The good thing was that I had supportive family and friends to fall back on whenever I had a bad day. If I ever started sh*t back, my parents would come down on me hard, so I learned to deal with those feelings rather than let them rankle. Some people don't have that benefit, so they become indifferent and mean. Seriously, some time with shrink would probably do these girls a serious amount of good, in addition to a healthy prison sentence.

You apparently just never asked why those kids were plainly, stupidly mean.

But, these kids are apparently dangerous to others, regardless, and need to be treated as such. That guy's right that some therapy might not hurt, though. They're getting out of lockup sooner or later.

You know what I think would be good therapy for them? Work. Hard work. They've clearly got lots of energy.

Unfortunately, the system isn't currently set up to channel that energy into anything productive.

This is all well and good, but some kids are just plain mean regardless of their family background. Some might be victims of their upbringing, but some are brought up just fine and are just victims of their own ignorance and stupidity.

The comments at the bottom of TFA are chock-full of your typical conservaderp. People have been psychotic since forever. We just get to see more of it now. We're in the f*cking Information Age, ffs.

The nightly news is basically just a melange of 30-second shock clips for 30-60 minutes.

We could stop this if we started executing people when they turned 13. No more teenagers = no more teenagers brutally assaulting people. It's the only way to be sure.

Not to sound crass, but if their parents (or parent, as the case may be) actually took the time to try and lift these children out of the self-reinforcing behavior they were born into, maybe...just maybe...they might be able to acclimate themselves into society.

Or, ya know, just let 'em roam free in a pack and see what happens. Whatever is easier.

so this is like the phantom punching they have here in Denver, only they connect with the punch and keep on going? Chair. Random act of violence acted out upon each of them, kinda like in Mad Max; Beyond Thunderdome. Break a basic human tenant, face the wheel. Doesn't have the same ring to it, though.

/almost slugged that kid who phantom-punched me
//officer standing 3 feet away had a little chat with him and his friends
///kids today don't know the first thing about one on one fighting, and yes, I know I would have been beaten down, what with 5 to one odds.
////would have taken the grin off that kid's face, along with some of his teeth

A few years ago I was walking down the street with a friend of mine. Coming the other direction was a young man who looked like he had a club foot and was walking with a severe limp. An SUV full of bimbos drives by and slows down so that the woman in the front seat can yell at the guy, "You ain't never gonna get something like this." And then they all laughed and drove on. To this day I still regret that I did not take the full bottle of gatorade I was carrying and hurl it into that woman's face. And if I had done it I would have later stood in front of the judge, explained why I did it, and that I would gladly do it again. Unfortunately, I was just too damned shocked to do anything except gape at those bimbos. To his credit the did not even flinch or look in their general direction. He just kept on walking. As he passed us my friend and I both nodded and said, "Hello" to the man. He smiled back at us and kept on walking. I have no ideal who that man is, but I have a ton of respect for him for not stooping to their level. I, however, wish I had stooped. Oh well.

Tenet. The word is tenet. A tenant is what landlords abuse.

And WTF is phantom punching?

I do not think it is about someone having led a sheltered life, but without the internet the stupidly mean things these stupidly mean kids did either flew under the radar or the event (as well as the kids) were quickly forgotten because the stories did not linger on after they were told.

Yeah, apparently I lived a very sheltered life too, because everyone got along at my schools, for the most part. No real meanness.

I feel like the most important part of my childhood was robbed from me

I'm not really sure what makes me sadder for humanity, this story or the comments section.

On the one hand a group of teenagers, mindlessly brutalizes a woman.

On the other a group of adults blames their actions on their race and somehow or another Obama and gays and abortion.

I feel like the teenagers, assuming they aren't just brutalized by the justice system in a way that reinforces their already disturbing view of the world, can be redeemed. They can learn to behave better in the future.

However, the herp a derp in the comments section are never going to stop belittling an entire race of people over the actions of a few.

The liberal side of me really hates how easy it was for the conservative side of me to predict what these girls were going to look like....

hopefully there is a Judge in their future that will put some thought into their punishment. getting beatings in prison won't be anything new to some of these girls. young people make mistakes. hopefully they will have hundreds of hours of community service to think about their actions while they are cleaning bed pans in a hospital or senior home, caring for the mentally ill in an institution or cleaning up piss and shiat in a no-kill animal shelter. perhaps they need to be taught empathy, sympathy, compassion and kindness. i don't know.

They'll make friends on the inside anyways, if their given a custodial sentence. At least if they're working, they'll be contributing something to the community. And, there are secure dormitories that allow people under court supervision to work during the day while being confined at night. Or, that allow them to work at night while being confined during the day.
