TheDumbBlonde: Are any of you practicing Catholics?

My GF is a practicing Catholic. She's also smart and not terrible, so she's not really Romney's target audience.

Bigdogdaddy: he's firmly more against Obama (although it's not a racial thing with him) it's more about massive debt that our government has incurred

Yeah. A lot of voters are uninformed. That's why the race is still close.

GrizzlyPouch: I voted for Obama in 08 (I'm from Mississippi so this is saying something)

Liked his message, more transparent less political etc.

He hasn't lived up to any of that. Our country is more polarized than ever, Muslims still hate us.

I'm 4 years older, married, kid on the way so maybe ive outgrown the blind optimism, but seriously

Why would anybody vote for Obama?

Healthcare reform? Negative, single payer would have been much better ( he had the house and a senate super majority. It should have been done)

Stimulus? Negative, more people are out of work today than ever before.

Not saying I'll vote for Romney but Obama had his shot. Fail

LOL. When did Obama say he was going to make the Muslims not hate us anymore?

Why would anybody vote for Obama?

Because the alternative is farking horrendous.

I think this is the new "both sides are bad so vote Republican".

Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo: The only real surprise that could matter is a complete collapse of Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, with rioting in the streets. Economic impacts take time to filter down to street level, one sudden event isn't going to sway the vote that much. And surprises tend to favor incumbents.

It's likely too late for a European collapse to have a big effect on our elections. The EU central bank is doing just barely enough to keep national defaults at bay. Most of the EU PIIGS will probably keep limping along with terrible economies for another few years, except for Greece, but if Germany and the central bank props up the rest, they can probably afford to boot or lose Greece.

Even if it happened, the knock on wouldn't hit us at least a few months after the collapse. You're right, dramatic events like that help a strong commander in chief. A Euro collapse would probably turn the impending blowout into a landslide.

2012-09-27 10:23:40 PM

thrgd456: Yeah, I'm not voting for either of them, but I can see this is gonna be a

LANDSLIDE!

Not only is Romney going to lose by margins we haven't seen in decades, the coat tail effect is going to help Democrat candidates on every level. Republicans have no hope of taking control of the Senate, and they're going to lose ground in Congress.

Jeesus Christ, Romney is doing more damage to the Republican candidate than....well fark, he's setting a new standard. And I'm a classic Republican voting, Fark Independent. But reality is reality. And Romeny is a walking farking disaster. Obama doesn't even have to do anything. He just has to sit back with a beer and laugh his ass off every time Romney opens his mouth.

Dahnkster: Aarontology: Turns out they care more about the social justice aspects of their faith then the social conservatism aspects of their faith.

THIS is what Christ would want. I live in Florida Panhandle which is pretty much 70-80% deepest, darkest Derpistan. Or local newspaper polls (Northwest Florida Daily News -- one of the single most submitted and approved links for FARK 'FLORIDA" stories) believe Obama is not a US citizen (70% of respondents). The McCain-Palin support here was at 80%. Romney support estimated at close to 70%. I became a Catholic convert for the sake of my wife, but enjoy much of the history and even the legends of some of the 'Saints'. I like the teachings of loving one another and being 'my brother's keeper'. I credit the Catholics for their role in hospital and school formation. I make no excuses their role in the Crusades, the fights against Protestant Reformation, The Inquisition or the ignoring of fascism in Italy, Germany, and Europe. I am amazed at the growing number of intelligent people that reject the message of hatred, fear and demonizing the poor. We have miles to go, but I am encouraged. I understand many of you have issues with not only Catholicism, but with organized religion and belief in a higher power/divinity in general. I am truly sorry for those of you have harmed in the name of 'Christianity'. I have been called 'foolish' and 'stupid' in my life for a myriad of reasons.... and that's just here on FARK.

I may not always be a good ambassador of kindness and love. But I stand on the side of love, compassion and laughter... and wieners and boobies... and pie, chocolate, ice cream and sweet, crispy bacon. I am registered as an "Independent" here in Florida (No Party Affiliation, officially). Both my wife and I (She's a registered Republican) will be voting for Obama.

meat0918: You're forgetting the Spanish Catholic's influence in the West, as well as parts of the South(like Florida).

Ah. This has been taken care of.

The Western missionaries, and the Spaniards to the Florida south had ZERO to the founding of this country.

Other than creating cities and pockets of" civilizations" that the Americans Conquered.

But historically speaking, Maryland was a Catholic colony. As for your original Statement: when I was a child, The Roman Catholic church considered Mormonism to be a Cult. Jehovah witnesses, Scientology are also in this classification.

How old is TheDumbBlonde? Not a diss, I just know different eras taught different versions. Claiming Spain had nothing to do with the founding of this country is the worst type of Anglo-worship... we were supposed to be growing out of that, in this country's grade school history classes.

Please explain how Spain had anything to do with the founding of America. You don't out-grow history.

Those who read the Gospels know that humility and charity towards humanity always beats selfishness also know that when you think something seems evil, it probably is decide that some people have too many evil attributes to be in charge. This explains why we have the long audition. It is hard for the truly evil ones.

You should visit south Louisiana. This place is absolutely crawling with people of all ages who think the only non-family member who has any right telling them what to do is the Pope. I don't think most of the lay Catholics give a flying fark at a rolling doughnut about the Church's stance on birth control. OTOH, they apparently care quite a bit about taking care of the poor.

Good show, Catholics. Glad you don't have your heads up your asses, even while your leaders do.

MisterTweak: Aarontology: Ryan is pushing Catholics towards the guy who wants to make them pay for birth control.

hahahahahahahhaha

A lot of catholics are less offended by paying for birth control for, as Mr. Limbaugh so gently put it "A Slut" - than they are at being used as a tool for ignorance and greed.

There was this Jesus guy a long time ago, who spoke extensively on the duty of every person to protect and help anyone who asks for help - but didn't actually talk about sluttiness, except to caution those who wanted to punish them for their perceived wrongs.

Oh, so they ignore Jesus' teachings and use religion as a tool of bigotry and fear to create and maintain worldly power and wealth for...oh...as long as they've existed, but NOW they're finally coming around?

Better late than never, I suppose.

Well, Obama is, in fact, a Protestant (look it up; the church he attended in Chicago is part of the United Church of Christ, a Protestant denomination). However, as he is neither white, nor Anglo-Saxon, there are no WASPs in either ticket.
