Paprocki concludes with a warning that while he is "not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against," backing the Democratic Party may put your eternal salvation at risk: "a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy."

I'd put my voting record up against his on Judgement Day. In the meantime he can stick a frock in it.

I would be abdicating this duty if I remained silent out of fear of sounding "political" and didn't say anything about the morality of these issues.

Yet your organization has no problem remaining silent on that whole "priests raping children" thing.

Fark off you hypocritical douchebag

/I thought that churches couldn't endorse a specific candidate or platform as part of their tax-exempt status

Gee, the guy who thinks he needs his own cathedral supports the spoiled, ivory-tower rich guy? Shocking.

Unless you can show he was complicit in the actions or endorses those actions, this is dickish on your part.

The IRS generally is lenient in these sorts of things. Every 4 years there's articles like this.

Wait, I was wrong. He did speak about the sexual abuse. More specifically, that the lawsuits against the church by the victims were excessive and motivated by the devil.

"Today in North America and elsewhere, the law is being used to undermine the charitable works and the religious freedom of the Church," Paprocki said four years ago. "This attack is particularly directed against bishops and priests, since the most effective way to scatter the flock is to attack the shepherd. We must also use our religious discernment to recognize that the principal force behind these attacks is none other than the devil."

That's why he's not telling you who to vote for.
The Catholic Church has long maintained a position that forbids voting for pro-abortion candidates (unless all the candidates are pro-abortion, in which case you try to find the lesser evil). I've never heard of them trying to enforce that position by excommunicating anybody, however. They just trust that god will send you to hell for it.

This is the guy who said this of the lawsuits against the church for child molestation:

"This attack is particularly directed against bishops and priests, since the most effective way to scatter the flock is to attack the shepherd. We must also use our religious discernment to recognize that the principal force behind these attacks is none other than the devil."

That's right. He's calling the victims of child molestation at the hands of the priesthood instrument of the Devil.

This Bishop doesn't seem to understand Church Doctrine very well. Any sin can be forgiven.

I was raised, more or less, Catholic. When upon the birth of my second child I was told by a devout member of the faith, to get the baptism done ASAP. See, my son was not breathing properly and if he didn't get water thrown on his head by some child molester that he would never go to Heaven. From that point, as I worried over my son in the N-ICU hoping he would live for a grueling 8 days, I renounced my "faith". Screw Catholicism.

2012-09-27 06:41:29 PM
Considering his stance on the whole "raping of children" thing, I think he's going to get to Hell himself, indignantly ask "where are all the Obama voters?" and be told to shut the fark up while Satan feeds a Cialis the size of a beer keg to the octo-penised rapephant.

Well, oil and water, but whatever. And yes, that is Church Doctrine. What angered you about that?

noting that he has "read the Republican Party Platform and there is nothing in it that supports or promotes an intrinsic evil or a serious sin."

I was under the impression that "limbo" was nixed a few decades ago.

The older, pre-V2 folks still believe in that stuff, but us younger folks weren't even taught it.

Catholic Bishop: Screw the poor. Stopping the gays from having equal civil rights and controlling women's reproduction is more important than helping the poor or ensuring that people have health care. You will not go to hell by screwing the poor, but you will for giving the gays equal civil rights.

This looks a lot less like cognitive dissonance if you notice it's pretty clear that rape isn't a sin for catholics.

The only Catholic priest that I'm friends with on Facebook (a Jesuit priest who was a teacher of mine way back in my high school days) is a staunch Democrat who routinely posts progressive and Democratic links and stuff.

I guess he's going to hell too.

It's amazing how willing much of the church hierarchy is to jettison all of its social teaching to vote for downright "fark the poor" social darwininsm, provided the party in question bans abortion and hates gay people. I'm not a catholic, but the church used to stand for so much more than this.

This is said often on Fark, and I wish that it were actually true...but alas, the IRS doesn't really make any real attempt to enforce the law beyond sending warning letters.

I'm not telling you how to worship, however, if you keep aligning yourself with Yaldoboath over Pistis Sophia, you're most likely not going to reach pleroma.
