OhLuverly: ladyfortuna: If Kroger has such a policy nationally, I for one will never shop there again on the rare occasions I'm in an area that has one. IF, and I repeat IF that's actually company approved behavior, they deserve every second of negative publicity they are about to get through the internet.

I wish I had that option, we have Kroger (Kroger bought out the other local chain) and Walmart in my area :-( There is a whole foods but they're to dang expensive for normal shopping,

I feel your pain. The presence of a Wegmans in this town played a huge part in my agreeing to move here. Yes I'm spoiled, grew up within a few miles of three Wegmans.

BarkingUnicorn:

On the customer side: you can buy steak for the price of bananas in the self-checkout lane. Just press "produce," "no PLU code," select bananas, and weigh your steak. Once you press "no PLU code" it doesn't scan the item placed on the scale/scanner.

I'd always assumed one or more of the ubiquitous cameras was pointing at the stand though.

I heard that's how they caught some guy scarfing up the cash people forget to take with their groceries: that did everything right, even bought something with cash without using his Kroger Plus card, except he forgot the cameras overhead. My informant thought it was a sting.
