These 47% comments SHOULD be haunting Romney. You shouldn't be president of a country where you think half the population is evil parasites who will "never take responsibility" for their lives

You should never go full Stalin while promoting freedom.

I'd like to see a split-screen ad where, on the left, Mitt from 2006-present takes one position (with the year at the bottom of the screen), then, when he's done, it freezes and the right side 2010-present Mitt (again with the year clearly posted) says something completely opposite. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Antimatter: Fluorescent Testicle: markie_farkie: My wife was a life-long Texas GOP voter, and when O was voted in, she swore up and down she'd never vote Democrat ever in her life.. Annnnd... Just recently was asking about the merits of voting a straight Dem ticket to "teach those Republican assholes a lesson for keeping our country in a choke-hold"

I know several other Texans in the same boat.

Texans. Voting straight Democrat. I know that the popular vote means less than bugger all, but it's still mind-boggling.

/Not Texan, but this year was the first time I've voted straight-ticket.
//Democrat, of course.

I've never, ever voted straight ticket, yet i'll be doing that this year for sure. I'll have no votes of mine going to GOP authoritarians, thank you very much.

I'm also in Texas, planning to do the same. I've never voted in an election before, but after the last 4 years of insanity from the GOP and conservative friends and family, I decided it was finally time to get involved. I made sure that my voter registration was still valid and up-to-date, and I've donated thousands to the Obama campaign.

I know that my vote probably won't matter much being in Texas, but it feels good to be part of the process. Hopefully there are others like me out there that see how crazy the GOP has become, and have finally seen what can happen if all you do is watch from sidelines.

If Romney had his shiat together, every speech would contain exactly the same information. Public or private, doesn't matter. You aren't negotiating a business deal. You're supposed to be letting the American people know your deeply held beliefs and how that would shape your administration.

nyrkah1: Somebody out there has Mitt's tax return info and I'm pretty sure it will surface before the election. A competent campaign would be prepared with a response for the inevitable.

Given that the "47%" video was floating around since May, and they weren't ready for it, I'm gonna guess they will be (more) farked when the tax returns surface.

MotherJones just released him at a Bain shareholder meeting saying they "harvest" the companies they invest it. "Harvest" isn't exactly "collecting dividend".

MJ seems to have a lot of good stuff, and it's been drip drip drip since the 47% video. Mitt made the mistake of thinking the help weren't listening to him bash them.

Yeah, my vote won't count here in Utah, it's going Romney, no matter what, thanks to the farking Electoral College. That said, I'm still voting, but the rest of my voting will still be based on the person and the issues, not just straight ticket.

Or is it all a desperate attempt to keep the fund raising spigot open a little longer by convincing gullible conservatives that Romney still has a chance?

yes

Agreed. My sister and my parents are die-hard republicans. As I am the black sheep of the family, a left-leaning independent, I often am sadly amused by the Politics Tab on Fark as my family often echoes many of the trolls talking points...and my family is being serious.

I'm 34 and a co-owner/Service Manager at a computer repair store, my sister is 29 and a highly successful real-estate agent, and my parents are both close to retirement (my father is a vice-president of an agricultural company and my mother works in the admissions office at a local college. We all gather together once a month for a family meal where we talk about what is going on in our lives and just spend time as a family. During our meal last night our talk turned to the election.

My family believes Mitt can win and the liberal, drive-by media is lying to the American people to make republicans feel there is no reason to vote by taking Mitt's words out of context and reporting on biased polling data. The 'stupid Europeans' should just shut up and not be so sensitive over Mitts words which were taken out of context about the Olympics, besides 'our' election doesn't affect them. (Seriously, paraphrased but that was the basic comment)

I pointed out that Europeans are concerned because our President presides over a vast nuclear stockpile, leads the free world, commands one of the largest military forces on earth, and can basically start a war with the wrong words. I also pointed out that Mitts words about the 47% was not out of context (nor were any of his other gems), and explained the whole Bain issue and his father's stance (as well as his comments) about politicians releasing their tax returns. Finally I made a case to them about the polling data and that even Rasmussen has Romney losing and that was the poll that not more than a week ago my family was saying was the only poll worth listening too...now they don't even trust Rasmussen. I also added a comment about friends of the family who are Republican but have told me they are voting for Obama this year because they believe Romney would be worse than Obama.

Needless to say all I got back were regurgitated Limbaugh/Hannity talking points and they refused to think about anything I said. As for the family friends, they stated that anyone who voted anything but a straight republican ticket was not a true republican. (Really? My 70+ year old uncle who has voted...proudly...a straight republican ticket every year he has been alive, been to every RNC he could attend, and gives the maximum donation to a 'deserving' Republican candidate every election... but says he can't vote for Romney...he isn't a True Republican?)

I ended the conversation asking that if the election turns out close to or exactly like the polls, how would they explain that.

The response was that the Democrats would have created election fraud so people would be tricked into thinking the polls actually represented the truth.

I love my family, and everyone's families have faults but Christ on a Cracker, this just makes me sad.

So yeah, there are people out there that truly believe.

You don't even need to do that. Just put markers on a YouTube video from a couple of his appearances and speeches this last month indicating where the flip-flop happened. From the ones that I've seen, most of the funny ones are where he says something, then remembers he's supposed to be saying something else, and reverses his position within a few seconds. In more extreme cases, a few days and separate appearances, in between which he's pushing for RomneyCare or repeating that 47% before someone with the balls to remind him that this is a 'bad' thing and enough clout to get him to listen tells him to reverse what he said.

Honestly... I'd vote for Romney... if only because he's at least being honest when he goes off leash. But I won't because an honest Romney is worse somehow than a pants on fire Romney.

When you create your own reality, you don't need to worry about polls. It's not a big jump to not worrying about election results either, by that 'logic'. As others have said, if he wins some will think the election was stolen by Obama.

I think it would be a bad idea for an ad (for things where Romney and Obama are similar in policy), the "true believers" will write it off as propaganda/out of context, so it can only really lose some of the centre right/Republican leaners back. Obama bringing the same things up in the debates could work if done the right way, as he can front and centre his own support of something like gay rights, and then put the ball in Romney's court - either he has to piss off the base, alienate any centrists left, or prevaricate and look weak/indecisive. On one question it wouldn't hurt too much, but Obama could do the same thing on at least half a dozen major issues.

DeArmondVI: Link

538 has Obama with a 97.8% chance of winning for the now-cast and an 81.9% chance Nov. 6

Obama really is the luckiest man alive.

Something must be borked in the scripting over there right now, as it currently shows Obama with a 373% chance to win. I don't think his odds are quite that good.
