Amazing.

2012-09-27 12:45:41 PM
Yup - there's nothing like a suicide note performed to Celtic music!

2012-09-27 12:46:08 PM
Good, I like them.

2012-09-27 12:48:35 PM
Having a group of actually talented musicians being hugely successful seems like a good thing to me.

^ all of the above ^

I don't hate them, but a little Mumford and Sons goes a long way.

The lead singer is married to Carey Mulligan, so I do hate him for that.

Came for this, suitably amazed.

Irish Hick music. Count me out.

2012-09-27 01:36:18 PM
My 15 year-old daughter loves them. Given that an alternative is mentioned in the sub-head of the article, I am fine with that.

2012-09-27 01:36:44 PM
Eh, I've heard worse. I think "talented" may be a stretch as they're nothing exceptional either, but they're largely good at what they do so good on them for making money doing it.

the chorus for little lion man has the word farked in it.
so...
i like them but i dont actively seek out and listen to their music.

People I know were listening to Mumford and Sons back in 2009. These people.

I'm usually batsh*t for anything with a banjo, but I've completely lost interest in them. They're just dull, and the lead singer bothers me

2012-09-27 01:45:59 PM
I really dig what they do. My only complaint is that there doesn't seem to be much variance in their song structures. But, like the Black Keys, it's nice to see a group who doesn't suck getting some recognition.

Are you saying you knew people who listened to M&S before it was cool before it was cool??

All the way back in 2009? Holy shiatballs! Can I carry your manpurse and hand-wrinkle your flannel for you in hopes some of your awesomenss rubs off on me?

2012-09-27 02:02:29 PM
So they do stuff that was safe in good ole times?

2012-09-27 02:02:46 PM
I remain convinced that M&S are a parody band, like Spinal Tap or the Folksmen.

Has anyone seen Chris Guest lately?

2012-09-27 02:03:47 PM
I wouldn't say they are my favorite band, but I don't turn the channel when they come on the radio.

According to a DJ, the lead singer was dating, drumming for, and writing songs for some UK folk singer some years back. He broke up with her and took the rest of the band with him. They became Mumford & Sons. Kinda funny/mean.

They're normally not my thing, but they have an odd appeal.

That said, I don't own any of their stuff, I just hear what passes me by.

Why can't we buy both?

2012-09-27 02:14:47 PM
I think "After the Storm" is good music, otherwise I tire of them quickly.

2012-09-27 02:19:17 PM
I was gifted the most recent CD awhile ago. Spent a few months listening to and enjoyed it.

Popped it in a few months ago and it just didn't have the same appeal to me. I kinda knew what it was all about and was done with it. It's like it had been consumed and there was nothing left there for me to enjoy.

i like their stuff, and if their success encourages more music that involves people playing instruments well and singing without auto tune, then i am all for it.

Ohhh...you're one of those "I've got so much cash I can buy TWO records!" kind of guys.

/feel free to buy both
//the M&S album will make a lovely coaster (and I say that having enjoyed the first album)

the bloodhound gang knows a thing or two about making fierce coasters.

I am fine with this news...these guys aren't what's wrong with the music industry.

and if you are getting into this kind of music only via the radio and finding new music doesn't scare you ; )
check out Old Crow Medicine Show, Split Lip Rayfield, The Devil Makes Three and older Yonder Mountain String Band...maybe you will like them too.

This is new to me and I like it. Mark E. Smith threw a bottle at M&S and for that (and Slates) I love him.

Which tracks should I give a listen first?

I haven't had a chance to listen to "Babel" but the first few tracks were fairly entertaining. I'm a bit worried that it's just going to be more of the same since the first single is a reworked B-side of the first album.

By "now" you mean 3 years ago, when they put out their lamest effort yet?

I saw them on SNL. Thunderous burst of indifference.

There's a lot of good folk music for hipsters out there right now - Head and the Heart, Blind Pilot, Blitzen Trapper (to an extent)... For some reason, I can't get into these guys, though.

I listened to the whole thing during a long run, and pretty much enjoyed all of it. Some tracks are more solid, but it hung together very well as an album.

[threadjack] I've become very confused in the last week. I used to be part of the 99%. Now I'm part of the 47%. Does that mean I've been promoted? [/threadjack]

busy chillin': fierce coasters

I'm claiming that for my band name. If I ever start a band. And learn to play an instrument.

So which drives the beat up pick up....and which one is Lamont?

Which one is the Fish Eyed Fool

Ugh, this kind of thread again. Can't people just like music? Why do we have to place judgement on people for musical tastes that in no way effect us? I like M&S. I like Dave Matthews. And I probably like the music that YOU like, person who is judging me for liking those two bands.

How would you be able to like the bands I like? You've never heard of them.

2012-09-27 04:32:46 PM
They have some song that goes something like "It's not your fault it's mine, I really farked it up this time" or whatever. That song irritates the hell out of me. A friend of mine cheated on his wife, and then at a party I hosted for my wife, his wife played the song like five times in a row. So, this band unfortunately has a negative relation in my mind.

They can go to hell, and for that matter so can my friend's wife.

And yknow upon retrospection, so can my friend! Dick.
