Was a bit disturbing. Butters's parents should be proud.

knowing how quickly they can bang out episodes (were they not goofing on Gaddafi's death within like, 3 days of the event about a year ago?), the scene were the refs made conflicting calls struck me as interesting, as that would have been a far more interesting topic than athletes and Jim Rome chugging buitters' semen.

Because as any Jim Show Show listener over the last 2-3 years knows, Jim Rome now chugs Kyle Brandt's semen.

They say Butters' bitterness was comparable to a blowout loss in the playoffs. Someone from the South Park staff already hated the Pats, watching Tebow and Co. shoot blanks last year seems to have made them explode a messy jealous wad and leave a bad taste in their mouths. I still like South Park.

The whole Tom Brady drinking semen thing is clearly a reference to the Battle of Tannenberg between the Russian and German empires, and the entire episode is a metaphor to warn us that the Ottoman Empire is certain to fall. Wake up, sheeple.

2012-09-27 03:48:13 PM
I thought it was a pretty weak episode, but love how they were able to spoof the blown MNF call just two days after it happened. "One replacement official signals touchdown! The other signals safety! They're checking the replay... 'fark it, it's a field goal!'"

I admit, I've long ago given up on South Park on a regular basis. That being said, you have to give these guys credit. They don't seem nearly as convoluted as current Family Guy episodes (which, if you ask me, is mostly because Seth's doing a brazillion things at once and not just concentrating on Family Guy, but I digress). And no one, nowhere, no how, can ever beat them when it comes to turnaround on episodes.

Agreed - also, the time Kenny was in a "persistent vegetative state" as the Terry Schiavo controversy was unfolding, and the time the TV reporters were reporting rapes, looting, etc. during a flood, right after Hurricane Katrina.

Really, last night's was just a throwaway line that they could have added at the last minute, having already made most of the episode. It's most impressive when it's a major plot element.

/kind of liked that Christmas in Canada episode

I just liked Randy's deadpan delivery at the end: "This is cum."

Surprised it took this long for Jim Rome to get into the South Park crosshairs.

2012-09-27 05:51:27 PM
I'm not a sports fan, so maybe I missed something here. But, this episode was not one of there better ones. The sarcasm thing got old after the first 10 minutes and the semen thing seems like they just shoved it in there at the last minute for shock value. There were a few different good topics to centralize on (like how overprotection of snowflakes is destroying sports) and they just flew right over it to something completely offtopic. About five times they added new primary subjects. I still don't know what the point was.

South park has been hit or miss for the last few years. When they nail it, they nail it hard. But the misses are just so wtf'ish.

And it seems every time they miss, it's the one time a month my wife happens to be in the room watching and I get embarrassed about watching such a terrible show based on that episode. She never sees the good ones that I suffer through the bad ones for ... but yeah, it was bad. I have a 4chan-adept sense of humor and I didn't find it remotely amusing. Not disgusting. Just really poor writing and flow. But again, I don't do sports, so maybe I missed something there.

/Stan didn't learn anything that day.

i gave up on streamlink 2-3 months ago so i only catch the show live. the incessant KB shoutouts are lame, KB segments are lame (the way Rome washed his balls after the Sprint Triathlon a few weeks ago, you'd have thought KB singlehandedly iced bin Laden), and KB hosting is absolutely dreadful.

Why Rome is clearly laying the groundwork for a no charisma, no talent, no take, no flow male model (because looks are so important for radio) to take over is mystifying.

Jesus Christ man, it sounds like you offered to blow Rome and he turned you down. You jealous of KB? Let it go.

All of these "sports talk show" hosts have that one person they have awkward conversation with: Colin Cowherd with that guy who has no doors on his Jeep, JT the Brick and Loonie, Dan Patrick and his quad of asslicking "Dannettes". That's just the nature of the beast I guess.

I don't like Rome including Kyle on a lot of things, but it's not that big of a deal. The more you listen to his show for the good interviews and the "Global Warrrrrminnnngggg" takes and not over-think it, the better off you are.

Watched a documentary on the production of an episode of South Park - the Human Cent-I-Pad to be precise. They did have to check in with the network on what they were allowed to do - mostly to do with swearing I suppose. Their animation team has gotten crazy fast now that it's all on computers. They said that their first episode, which was done all as stop-motion with actual craft paper cutouts, took 6 months to make.

OrygunFarker: I was thinking that Randy's sarcasm was a bit of a parody of Jennings remarks after the GB - SEA game about the refs.

What I love about South Park is that they very subtly work in references and homages along-side some of the obvious references and up front crassness.

The famous(made headlines or at least fark comments) one I remember was the cripple fight scene, though I never saw the source film. I do see others quite often, almost like those "when you see it you'll shiat bricks" moments. Very easy to miss if you blink, or have seen the source/reference material since you saw it last, so it adds replayability to the episodes.

Bathia_Mapes: It was a "best of both worlds" episode for me. Started out being a Randy Marsh episode (my second favorite SP character) and ended up a Butters Stotch episode (my favorite SP character).

Butter's Creamy Goo. :-D

"Ew, it's all sticky"
(if he doesn't say that in this episode I'll be let down(will watch it in about 5 minutes), the perfect back reference, like when he was correct about sitting on the toilet backwards except this one reaches back multiple seasons)

You have good taste. Butters is my favorite as well, half of it is his wavery voice. One of the most unique things they've done. Randy is my favorite adult character, glad they realized the gold mine there and went with it.

Almost forgot to mention, Butters spanish name(when they played crossing the border into cartman's yard) was Mantequilla(spanish for butter). One of the 3 spanish words I happen to know..

I give them a lot of credit for doing what they do in a very short amount of time but it seems like this process is probably the biggest culprit in its decline in quality and humor over the last several seasons (other than the obvious one - after about 8 seasons or so it's hard for anything to retain any sort of originality). Seems like if they took a couple of weeks to fine-tune the show - throw out bits that don't work and polish the ones that sort of work, that the show would be much better.

if you're a guy and don't know what cum tastes like when you're drinking it, you're ACTUALLY gay.

I stopped watching South Park years ago when Parker & Stone pulled the "lets totally fark over the character of Chef by making him a child rapist because we're pissed off at Issac Hayes." bullshait. Even before then, I was finding South Park more redundant and less amusing.

Wyalt Derp: Practical_Draconian: Aside from the chicken fight I caught on someone's Facebook post, has there been anything funny on Family Guy in the past three or four years? I stopped watching after The Empire Strikes Back parody.

Shut up, Meg.

That was the best part of that "Spies Like Us" episode. That, and hearing Mila speak her native tongue...mmm....Mila's tongue....

\bunk time, brb

So you don't like the show because you don't understand what they're doing. That episode had as much to do with child rape as the Terry Schiavo episodes had to do with video games.

Wasilla Hillbilly: I'm not 100%, but I think that might have been the weakest episode of South Park's entire run.

It was pretty weak and unfunny overall, but I appreciate that it had a point to make, namely that sarcasm has become the default language of our time, to the point where it's hard for anyone to appreciate who's being sarcastic and who's being earnest. The discussion between Randy and his doctors created a real sense of unease around that issue. And the most sincere of all South Park characters, Butters, had no idea what he was doing -- happily accepting reality as it was presented to him by a clearly insincere father -- and yet he took the fall for what everyone thought was a crude joke, because no one can tell the difference anymore. So while I thought most of the jokes fell flat, it was one of those episodes that made me think, which eliminates it from "worst ever" consideration IMO.

I agree with the rest of your post, but not the above.

I didn't think it was weak at all.
Then again, I like sarcasm, and see how it would be a difficult voice acting performance. Sometimes seeing something done well is more important than the actual content, which if you really want to rate South Park on content, you should probably find something else to watch.

As for being unfunny, well, you know opinons, they are like assholes. Everyone has one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.
I got a kick how every swallow of Goo was conveyed as really difficult.
I got a kick out of Randy not having any shame in swallowing cum right at first, easily identifiable taste and consistency, and just comes out and says it as if it's no big deal, he does it all the time, it's neutral, like eating a sandwich.
But of course, I'm not above "crude" humor of that sort. Again, if you want to judge that, maybe South Park isn't the show for you.

They mention that in the documentary. Pretty comes comes down to not being able to stop tweaking things, or over thinking stuff.
I just looked up and according to Wikipedia they have been doing it this way since 2000.

Look, I "get" that they were sticking it to Scientology with their usual hammer-upside-the-head subtlety. And I am not in any way a fan of Scientology, but I felt the target was Issac Hayes and Parker & Stone used Scientology as the bullet whereas you probably felt it was the other way around. To each his own.

It only takes six days to complete a south park episode. check out this netflix documentary about humancentipad:

Bathia_Mapes: And it would appear that they had an even faster turnaround time for this episode.

I don't think so. Most of the episode revolved around the pansy rule changes favoring the offense in the NFL. They threw in one joke about the refereeing, which probably took them about 15 seconds to figure out a way to work it into the script after they saw the Packers/Seahawks game.

/sorry so late
