Well, he did get stripped of his Tour de France wins. What else does he have to live for?

Very strange, and very sad. He'd been a pretty reliable character actor for years.

The article writer and the editor should be fired. Reading it gave me a headache.

So... his next role will be on Walking Dead?

It could have been he was found with one 70 year old and one 81 year old.

Sons of Anarchy looks interesting, and I need something to watch while waiting for the final episodes of Breaking Bad.

How would you Farkers rate Sons of Anarchy?

2012-09-27 11:36:45 AM
This is very strange. I just watched the "pilot" episode of this series for the very first time last night after getting tired of people telling me how good it was and how I needed to watch it and it would tide me over until Breaking Bad comes back. And so it's only as of last night that I would have understood this headline. I almost feel responsible.

2012-09-27 11:36:58 AM
Sons of Anarchy isn't bad if you don't think too much.

I've got "bath salts" in the pool, btw.

It's no Breaking Bad, that's for sure. And it hasn't completely hooked me yet. But I liked the pilot enough to give at least the next few episodes a chance.

I'd say it's worth watching. My gal loves it. It started out pretty good but I found the more it went on the more it bacame kind of "Soap Opera-like".

Not a terrible way to wait for BB. But I think Walking Dead is more interesting if you haven't been watching that already.

It's entertaining enough but it constantly repeats itself. This season we have another wealthy, powerful bad guy (last time he was a white racist, this time he's black) who's willing to do really reprehensible shiat (rape Gemma/burn a young woman alive) to get what he wants

SPOILERS

And leaving Clay alive at the end of last season really bothered me.
/SPOILER

And last weeks "twist" wasn't so much a twist as it was telegraphed for the last 2 weeks.

So I guess you're right.

More happens on it than on Breaking Bad, which builds to a slow burn and massive game changing events. In SOA, they stretch the bonds of believability to the breaking point occasionally, so you don't get as invested in it as you might on BB.

SOA is fun, but occasionally gets very dark. It is better than regular network TV, for certain, but it isn't a Deadwood, Breaking Bad or The Shield.

A stellar cast (even the minor roles are well cast) makes up for occasionally questionable writing.

/which is oddly enough (because they're nowhere near the same in terms of quality), the same reason I enjoy Leverage

Just fast forward through any scenes about baby crap, Gemma and Tara arguing, any part with Jax and Tara in the same scene, and the five minute song at the end of every episode and it's a pretty solid show.

My goodness the hate for the show escalated quickly. Granted, the season 4 finale was ass, but considering how immediately afterwards perception became reality with the Fast N Furious ATF case... I'll give it a pass.

Personally I think it peaked at the season 3 finale, the 4th season was hit and miss, and season 5 is picking up quickly. You can tell Clay can't actively get involved in the club anymore, but he's got time to plan now, and I'm sure he's got a hand in a lot of things happening to the club now. Now I'm just curious if this is indeed the last season, or if they'll stretch it out to a 'bad end for everyone' season 6 like The Shield... which you know is coming.

As for Half-Sack... well let's see, he beats his elderly landlord to death, beats a few other people with a 2x4, then climbs up to the roof and falls to his death. Yeah... I bet real money he was higher than giraffe pussy when he died.

It's worth watching. However, you'r much better biding your time with Boardwalk Empire, Tremé or any of them great Danish dramas that the BBC have been airing recently (Forbrydelsen, Borgen or Broen).

It is comically bad. Horribly bad. Terrible. A ridiculous caricature of what a show about a bike gang could have been. I love Ron Perlman, and I am embarrassed for him every time I try to watch this piece of crap.

Not that quickly. Once Sarah Jones and her magnificent rack split, and the IRA took Jax's baby away the backlash started in earnest.

The music selection and covers by the Forest Rangers are also exceptional.

The show is good enough that I'll actually watch it on TV, but not good enough that I'll forego other plans just to watch it. It does have a few stupid moments (last season's finale, for instance) and some brilliant ones (the season finale before that), but other than that its pretty solid. The only thing that bugs me about it is how few 'wins' the protagonists get. Especially in the later seasons, it feels like they're just constantly getting shiat on. Don't know if that's part of the whole Hamlet thing or not.

The show was renewed for seasons 5 and 6, and Sutter would like to end it after 7. If ratings stay as good as they are, I don't see how FX would let them go without a big, hyped seventh and final season.

You have been very misled - SoA is most assuredly not going to hit your Breaking Bad fix. I really enjoy SoA, but it is a fun, action soap opera, nothing more.

Actiony + better plotting you might check out Justified if you haven't - it is wrapped in flashy of-the-week paper, but becomes very satisfying on examination.

7 seasons would also put the episode count high enough for syndicators to pay up (I know 100 episodes is the traditional magic number, but that's been changing over the years). That's where the big money is for the show creators.

Overall, I thought the first 2 seasons were great. The third had a weak start and the Ireland stuff went on a few episodes too long, but it finished strong, and the fourth season was very good, despite the cop outs in the finale.

Funny thing is how much of the Deadwood cast they've used so far. Maybe that means they're setting up Ian McShane to be the villain to end all villains in the final season.

I know the magic syndication number is generally between 80 and 100 episodes, but then you take into account stuff like The Munsters, which was only 65 episodes, and the WB Cartoon model of 65 and done, so networks can air one episode per day for 13 weeks before starting the run over.

So they could probably get by with 5 or 6 seasons' worth, but 7 would make it perfect for some cable network.

/there would probably be too much editing for regular syndication, but something like A&E's sopranos run would make sense.
