What?

2012-09-27 12:09:47 PM
Except that technically, those entries aren't for songs...

Omg the Hot 100 chart! That's... something, I guess.

2012-09-27 02:26:35 PM
Why is that sad?

2012-09-27 02:26:48 PM
Meh. I hate repeating these points, but Mcdonalds is the most popular restaurant, Wal-Mart the most popular store. etc. etc. Most of the time, popular =/= quality.

I enjoy Lil Wayne. He and Niki Minaj should get together and have rainbow neon babies.

That's unfortunate

When was the last time Billboard's Hot 100 had anything to do with rock and roll?

2012-09-27 02:40:07 PM
This is not rock and roll.

I hear he thinks is a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake as well....

Lil Wayne, much like Elvis Presley in his time, is popular with young people. Someday, another artist will become popular with young people, and this artist will undoubtedly make multiple appearances on an industry-standard chart.

Good news: Elvis Presley has been surpassed.

Bad news: His successor is every bit as talentless as he was.

'Hot 100' seems to mean less than it used to. I mean, a #1 ranking gets you just as much as #100. A Glee album can come along, do well enough to slop itself all across the 80's and 90's for a week or so and vanish from sight, and hey, look at all the Hot 100 appearances it racked up.

2012-09-27 04:14:45 PM
Since I doubt Lil Wayne has ever crossed over into the Country, Gospel, and Religious charts like Elvis did, he is still way behind Elvis when all charts are combined. Oh and Elvis had a number of his songs hit the R&B/Blues/Soul charts too....

And, Elvis can actually sing....

Elvis stole good music from real talent and sung it more shiattily.

Lil' Wayne is part of the downfall of mainstream rap.

In other words, people like facsimiles of actual good music more than they like good music when they are young and buy a crap-ton of CDs. No big news.

The bigger issue with the Hot 100 now is that everything is just flavor of the week. Back in the day, Prince or Michael Jackson would come out with a new album, and the singles off of it would stay steady on the charts for years. These days a new artist will come out with a new album, the lead single will debut in the top 10 week 1, drop to the top 50 by week 2, and then be completely off the chart by Week 3. Plus most major artists now are running the scam where they give out the album for free with the purchase of the concert ticket, which counts the same as a normal sale.

Yeah, but ask people about Lil Wayne 50 years from now, and the universal reply will be "what the f*ck is a Lil Wayne?" People will still be listening to Elvis.

/not a fan of either, but I have lil doubt that'll be the case.

Love him or hate him, he has yet to match Elvis' record, and here's why:

"Presley was also billed as the lead artist on all 108 of his chart hits, while Weezy has been the lead on 42 of his, showing as a featured act on his other 66."

If we're going to use any songs a person has been on, then Glen Campbell beats them both by ten times.

I won't begrudge him his success. Lord knows I wish I had it. But to imply that he's better, or even more popular or better-selling, than Elvis, is disingenuous.

Actually, Elvis is still King....

Lil Wayne's count was including "featuring", whereas Elvis' count is him as the main artist.

Big difference
