Joe Piscopo wasn't terrible. He was vaguely likeable as a cheesy action star. There were certainly worse stars in the 80s.

"Dead Heat" is almost symbolic of 80's action/buddy-cop movies. It's the kind of "throw whatever we got" type of movie.

This Hudson Brothers movie, however, came on HBO every 4 hours for some reason.

CSB time
I met with Steve Johnson - who was one of the makeup artists on Dead Heat, among other really cool things on his resume - 2 years ago, during a movie festival.

I got him to sign my Blade 2 dvd but the look on his face when I pulled out my Dead Heat dvd was priceless.
These movies go back to a time where the guys really had fun doing art in their head and materializing it. Too bad most of them are reduced, nowadays, to making corpses for tv shows like CSI or Bones.

(Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies)

(or maybe succeeded?)

Not-in-the-least-CSB: Seemingly a million years ago I lurked (and occasionally posted to) an unmoderated Usenet group dedicated to horror-fan-culture. The director ofThe Necro Filesspammed that group so frequently and with such over-ambitious, tin-eared assholishness upon its initial straight-to-DVD release that the title of the film and the dropping of his handle was a joke/punchline for years following. I honestly never believed I'd ever have cause to hear of it again. It looked like UBER-sh*t*at the time and doesn't appear to have grown even an iota more appealing.

As a horror fan, I'm accustomed to viewing a lot of sh*t to locate the rare gems of the genre. But even the synopsis told me that that was just too intelligence-insulting for my tastes.

The ultimate zombie (and/or "zombie-esque") film list.

Note I: it's not mine but it does make a great handy reference.

Yes. My opinion is the only correct one.

2012-09-27 10:39:46 PM
The only film on that list I've seen is Cemetery Man, which is pretty weird. But good. The ending is very surreal, which I normally don't care for, but it worked really well for this movie.

List could have included Return of the Living Dead 3, a boy meets girl, boy accidentally kills girl, boy brings girl back to life as zombie, now zombie girl cuts herself to control her craving for BRAAAAAAAAAAINS. That movie is pretty twisted, but funny and Mindy Clarke makes for a very hot zombie.

Very cool! Steve deserves a lot more credit than he seems to get. The guys work on Ghostbusters and The Abyss alone should put him up there with Baker and Winston.

Jess (Jesus) Franco's Oasis of the Zombies (aka The Treasure of the Living Dead.)

The only three films that immediately rush to my mind upon hearing/reading the phrase "Nazi zombies" are "Shock Waves" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076704/, the aformentioned "Død snø (Dead Snow)" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278340/ and Oasis.

You're welcome.

Great days when such things could and often did happen. Loved the old Hammer and Man-In-Giant-Monster-Suit (with zippers plainly visible) flicks they'd show.

Hell, I still recall being wonderfully deeply unnerved by just this commercial for Suspiria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwA_58KIEcs

Actually, it was THIS TV advertisement. As the one I posted above was actually the theatrical trailer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJSI9PXj8js&feature=related.

And, just for kicks I'll post these cool 'tube vids I found while searching for it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=lbkwKOUHXYg (collection of tv ad spots for 1960s horror/sci-fi films)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23yIF7BNPjY (collection of tv ad spots for late 1970's-early 1980's horror films.)

(love the "in color" and "starts Friday at your local theaters and drive-ins" as some of the ads fade out.)

Yeah, I'm (chronologically) old.

No Zombies Anonymous? The end fight scene is worth the painful film school dialogue/acting.

Also don't forget Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies, surprisingly okay for a direct to video "confuse people who think they're actually wathing the summer blockbuster" spoof.

Why not a bonus one, Mutant Chronicles, featuring the "always hungry for work" Ron Perlman.

Balance being key, the above mentioned Dead Snow, Rammbock, and Exit Humanity are surprisingly good worth watching.

I'm not sure that technically counts as a zombie movie.

Speaking of Perlman, what about I Sell the Dead?

Deadheads is another one (and it's on Instant Play).
