Joe Piscopo wasn't terrible. He was vaguely likeable as a cheesy action star. There were certainly worse stars in the 80s.

"Dead Heat" is almost symbolic of 80's action/buddy-cop movies. It's the kind of "throw whatever we got" type of movie.

I loved Nightmare City. I own it on DVD. Such a great, campy film. It'd be great material for a remake.

That's because Night of the Comet was an awesome zombie movie.

This Hudson Brothers movie, however, came on HBO every 4 hours for some reason.

What can you say about the one with the naked lesbian Japanese schoolgirl zombies other than the makers really know their audience. Bravo, good filmmakers.

I liked the boob I saw for 1/10 th of a second in the swim team video. Plus the over-the-top cheesyness on some of these looks awesome.

I got Dead Heat & Nightmare City (along with Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, Hell of the Living Dead, City of the Living Dead and House By the Cemetary) all thanks to this fine product from Anchor Bay.

CSB time
I met with Steve Johnson - who was one of the makeup artists on Dead Heat, among other really cool things on his resume - 2 years ago, during a movie festival.

I got him to sign my Blade 2 dvd but the look on his face when I pulled out my Dead Heat dvd was priceless.
These movies go back to a time where the guys really had fun doing art in their head and materializing it. Too bad most of them are reduced, nowadays, to making corpses for tv shows like CSI or Bones.

List failed without:

(Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies)

(or maybe succeeded?)

Not-in-the-least-CSB: Seemingly a million years ago I lurked (and occasionally posted to) an unmoderated Usenet group dedicated to horror-fan-culture. The director ofThe Necro Filesspammed that group so frequently and with such over-ambitious, tin-eared assholishness upon its initial straight-to-DVD release that the title of the film and the dropping of his handle was a joke/punchline for years following. I honestly never believed I'd ever have cause to hear of it again. It looked like UBER-sh*t*at the time and doesn't appear to have grown even an iota more appealing.

As a horror fan, I'm accustomed to viewing a lot of sh*t to locate the rare gems of the genre. But even the synopsis told me that that was just too intelligence-insulting for my tastes.

The ultimate zombie (and/or "zombie-esque") film list.

Note I: it's not mine but it does make a great handy reference.
Note II: I don't recommend all of the titles (and some I couldn't warn potential viewers away from more strongly) but there are some good-to-very-good obscure* films on it.

I've seen 'Dead Heat,' 'Cemetery Man,' and 'Wild Zero.' All three are worth at least one viewing.

I know 'Dead Alive' is pretty awesome, but it's pretty strange. I would've put that on the list too.

Stacy and Wild Zero make for a fun double feature. Throw in Tokyo Gore Police and call it a night.

creeped me out. has always creeped me out. never found out it's name and never really cared. 'cause creepy.
