Here is my one and only taxidermy story, it is completely true...

My sister and my niece (who was eight years-old at the time) came and visited me in New York. We took a day trip to the Museum of Natural History. Anyway, my niece was looking at one of the dioramas, a gory tableau featuring a pack of hyenas and vultures ripping the guts out of a zebra.

My niece was absolutely mesmerized; her eyes were as big as saucers, her nose pressed against the glass. "So you like that?" I asked.

"I have lived my whole life for this moment. I have always wanted to practice the gentle art of taxidermy" she replied.
My jaw about fell off my face.

Later I asked my sister how the hell an eight year-old girl came up with a statement like that off the cuff. Apparently my niece had encountered the concept of "the gentle art of taxidermy" in a tanning and taxidermy how-to book textbook that she had insisted her dad get her for her fifth birthday.

Thanks for listening to my taxidermy story. I apologize if I told it to you before and I apologize in advance for when I tell it to you again.
