Pretty sure that by the second quarter we will all hate these blind refs again.

Looking at their schedule & performance so far, I'm thinking any scenario getting Cleveland to 3 wins would require multiple team plane crashes.

I could see them beating KC and Indy without suspending disbelief TOO much. And possibly WSH or Oakland. And division games are something of a tossup, even when the Browns are involved.

There's enough variability in each game that even the worst teams can get things to bounce their way 1-3 times a year. Look at the Colts last year.

If I can be honest, what Browns fans probably should be pulling for is an 0-16 season, followed by trading the #1 overall pick for a slew of other high draft picks to whatever team is the most desperate for whomever the "can't miss" future-HOF-quarterback is next spring. But, if I'm being honest then I have to admit that most Browns fans would recognize that the team would likely keep that pick and use it on a one-legged punter.

/And not one of those cool, runs-around-on-a-high-tech-blade kind of one-legged punters, either.

Naw, the Browns a few more chances: Indy, Miami, and the entire AFC West. And possibly Cincy at home.

They don't play Miami, so I'll agree that Cleveland's chances of losing that one diminish somewhat. ;p

This morning an Eagles fan told me that the only reason my Cards won Sunday was because of the refs.

Seriously. He said they lost 27-6 because of the refs.

Hopefully now people will see us win because we actually deserved to win.

Well, except for the Pats game, where we got an assist from the Troll gods.

FYI, our (Baltimore's) defense this season: 28th vs. the pass, 18th vs. the run, 27th overall, and 15th in points allowed. We'll win, but if I were a betting man I'd take the over (44).

Eagles are better by 1 point, and the Bengals by 7. I would say the over's still a good bet.

Traded Newton & Torrey Smith for RG3 & AJ Green.
Have Trent Richardson & Pitta. Thinking of maybe playing Richardson (also starting Leshoure & Morris. Have F. Jackson, Andre brown, & Turner on bench). At TE I also have Gates & M. bennett. Any reason to go with Pitta over those to or any of the other backs over Richardson?

2012-09-27 06:45:55 PM

After going 10-6* last week, I'm sitting at 29-18 for the season. But, much like every team in the league that's not either the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, or Atlanta Falcons, all my excuses just went the way of the replacement refs. Kicking things off with Cleveland at Baltimore should help get things off on the right track towards a 12-4 week, at the least.

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens:
Aside from the fact that I am indeed a Ravens fan, let's look at the rationale for this pick: Baltimore has not lost at home since week 13 of the 2010 season. Cleveland has not won on the road since week 2 of the 2011 season. The Ravens are a near-unanimous Super Bowl contender. The Browns are near-unanimous as the worst team in the league. Joe Flacco & Co. are 3rd in the league in passing...the Browns' defense is 27th against the pass. And of course Baltimore has won the last 8 times these two teams have faced off. A suddenly suspect Ravens' defense prevents a complete blowout, but the Ravens still win, and win big: Baltimore 38, Cleveland 20

Oh, and...

Ya, but Helu is out and Morris is a good Flex option especially with RG3. Gates hasn't done anything this year so I can't really consider him over bennett or Pitta who have both been scoring and getting 10+ pts a week. I guess the only real debate is Richardson or Turner. The only problem with Turner is that ATL has been throwing all game.

Couple things I don't like about the Ravens tonight.

-Avg a game every 4.5 days over past 18 days.
-big emotional game by Smith that was half in part to how bad McCourty is & how bad refs were
-seems like a good time for a weird upset

Verdict: not betting this game

Ravens might lose if they don't continue to get bullshiat penalties called turning every 2nd and long and 3rd and long to a 1st down.

I just have the under, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Browns keep it within 10. Got -13.5 from an opening line in my pool, but seeing shops with -11 now. Still wouldn't put any money on a sports team from Cleveland.

Other than a possible adjustment period now that the regular refs are back, I'm curious what made you think under on this one? The way the two teams have been playing Baltimore might break 44 on their own.

Brandon Weeden achieves temporary Joe Montana status by guzzling three gallons of Butters' Creamy Gooey Friendship Filling at the half and out duels Flacco in the second, overcoming a 20 point deficit to take it into quintuple overtime.

After four and a half hours, the only players left who haven't collapsed of exhaustion are Ray Rice and Trent Richardson, who break dance to determine the winner.

They did a bit ago. I doubt he cares though, It's minimal impact on the league. Caused women to talk about the NFL and didn't really create enough negative interest to turn off fans.

Which is why he caved to the Officials? Within 2 days?!

/i am aware that they reached an equal compromise
//still 4 years of pensions for the current refs

Did they pick Ceelo for the intros because he's shaped like a football?

F*cking refs must have been drunk when they allowed that opening to go unflagged.

He? You mean the owners

2012-09-27 08:28:41 PM
A guy at work tried to bet me the Ravens win 27-0.

I took his bet.

Josh Cribbs plus a good coverage team equals points. Or a pick 6.

But, Flacco is actually figuring out how to play quarterback this year and ...ya know, THROW the ball. I'd say more like 35 or 42 to about 10, maybe 13.

2012-09-27 08:29:28 PM

After Monday night's fiasco? With his desk phone full of hate voice mail and those who had his cell # yes, I think it DID impact the negotiations. I wonder how many owners called him after that game game and told him the integrity of the NFL is now on the line.

And then to NOT OVERTURN it after the league reviewed it! Roger's ARSE was about to be fired.

2012-09-27 08:54:00 PM
That hit was so nasty, Goodell is ready to fine James Harrison $50,000!

2012-09-27 08:54:00 PM
Oh dear, I though the Bloods and Cribbs feud was over.

2012-09-27 08:54:03 PM
Oh shiat...

2012-09-27 08:54:06 PM
Well, his involuntarily functions are working... that is good right?

2012-09-27 08:54:10 PM
Legal hit though, shoulder pad.

Roger Goodell to ban punt returns in 2013

2012-09-27 08:54:46 PM
Awe man, and to add insult to injury a cleat to the face at the end

2012-09-27 08:54:53 PM
He was breathing quite heavily, that's probably a good thing.

He's just stunned.

Right?

2012-09-27 08:54:53 PM

thecpt: by definition he is a defenseless player

not correct. he established control and had already made a move 'common to the game.' He is an active runner at that point. Just like a QB who crosses the LOS.

2012-09-27 08:54:56 PM

IlGreven: Olympic Trolling Judge: All right. Got back in time to hear the fans boo the union thug refs, finally caught up with the thread. Rooting for Les Nouveaux Bruns out of sympathy and fark-the-Ravens. Let's roll.

...aaaaaand 174 comments until the union threadshiatter arrives...

Keep your shirt on, Hoffa. My tongue is firmly in my cheek.

Direct hit from the back of the head is never good.

4NSpy: RIP Josh Cribbs.

there goes the browns offense.

/the nfl network stream just informed us that his chest is moving up and down
//so he's got that going for him, which is nice necessary for life.

2012-09-27 08:55:09 PM
Well, Cribbs just got destroyed.

2012-09-27 08:55:15 PM

eddievercetti: Oh dear, I though the Bloods and Cribbs feud was over.

You are the worst. THE VERY WORST

Should still be Browns' ball. Play's dead the moment his helmet came off.

man with the football is defenseless?

2012-09-27 08:55:24 PM
I really hope that isn't as bad as it looks.

2012-09-27 08:55:32 PM

karmaceutical: Well, his involuntarily functions are working... that is good right?

Yes. And if you notice, his muscles tensed up when he was knocked out. Clear sign of not dead. May never play football again, but not dead.

2012-09-27 08:56:08 PM
Hey in his mind he ran that one back for a TD!

2012-09-27 08:56:19 PM
Not only did he get clocked in the head, his bare head bounced off the turf, ouch...

2012-09-27 08:56:23 PM
He is alive! Get em browns!

2012-09-27 08:56:33 PM
Sweet Jesus, that was a hit...very much hope he's ok. His eyelids were flickering soon after the hit, so good sign.

Even more so, he got up!

2012-09-27 08:56:42 PM
See, SEE? THIS is why refs should be outlawed.

2012-09-27 08:56:47 PM

And then he caught the Joker and kept Gotham safe.

1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player's head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him; and
(2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/"hairline" parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player's body."

His lower body was being hit which means he is in a defenseless posture.

Di Atribe: You are the worst. THE VERY WORST

Why thank you!

2012-09-27 08:57:31 PM
The Potato Refs wouldn't have interrupted the game for this. Or for a guy down on the field.

2012-09-27 08:57:32 PM
NOW they review it? Roger made a call to the refs to get another batch of adverts in.

2012-09-27 08:57:32 PM
QB just audibled with 'Flacco SO' and in my mind I added an 'L'

/comeon Flacco I put you in my lineup tonight
//and Pita too!

It would be funny if Cribbs had a 180 IQ now and started solving all sorts of equations on the sideline...like why the browns suck

2012-09-27 08:57:39 PM
...couldn't review the play during the timeout?

2012-09-27 08:57:41 PM

He's up and moving but I don't think he knows what he use to know.

I swear I'll piss myself if during this Raven's drive, Cribbs walks out onto the field and opens an imaginary oven to smell a pie... or maybe some fresh bread.

They cut the replays off before this point, (nice grab) but if you can find access to a full replay of the entire play, every player anywhere near Cribbs stopped immediately and backed away when they realized his helmet was off & he was out.

no honestly, I was reading these rules the other day because I didn't know that a defensive player could be considered defenseless (its in the name!) and that should follow under that category.

No, wait, never mind. From what I can find on the rules, the play only dies when the ball carrier loses his helmet. If he fumbled, he wasn't the ball carrier, ergo play stays alive.

Reset the "non-potato ref mistake" timer.

I think that's like in the other lesser football, where they give possession back when an injury resulted in the original turnover.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

They do it's just where they are located is the issue. The NFLPA wants them on the sidelines to keep coaches from telling players to go in. The NFL wants them upstairs and they go down to the locker rooms when a player goes back. Cribbs went back, he'll be in a dark room relaxing the rest of the evening.

That is not the way the rule is written. The ball is dead when the runner's helmet comes completely off. At the moment the player's helmet came completely off, he had already fumbled and was no longer a runner. The ball was, therefore, still live.

Flacco has a very big arm. That's the only reason why you draft a QB from Delaware. Flacco's issue was a slower release. But you can fix mechanics; it's hard to teach a ++ arm.

Why does he keep saying that word?

Because like the WWF the NFL has turned into sports entertainment?

Di Atribe: becksellent: Because:

a) I'm not an idiot. Di could totally kick my ass. :)
b) I have no idea what we'd be fighting out.
c) I don't really want to know what kind of fight you're envisioning here. :P

Girl, please. We'd just sit in the middle of the ring and eat cupcakes.

And we'd still watch.

Ponzholio: SomebodyElsesShoes: handgimp: IlGreven: Ponzholio: Seriously, why wasn't Weeden's bounce pass off his lineman's helmet a penalty? Was there a rule change or something?

I thought illegal touching had to be intentional...

Nope, should have been flagged. Turns out the real refs are human too.

"Article 8 Illegal Touching of a Forward Pass.It is a foul for illegal touching if a forward pass (legal or
illegal), thrown from behind the line of scrimmage:
(a) is first touched intentionally or is caught by an ineligible offensive player;"

Thanks. I had never seen the intentional part before. I thought it was just if they touched it...

Yeah, I'd swear I've seen it called before when unintentional.

Hey, go back to the top of the thread. I said I wouldn't be surprised if browns won.

-Thursday game
-division game
-Ravens playing 4 games in 18 days
-huge bad Flacco potential
-Torrey Smith isn't being covered by McCorty

if any game has "I should have seen the upset" potential it is this one
