I like Mozilla. I really do. As an organization, it was instrumental in keeping a competitive browser landscape alive and it spurred real change in how people use the web.

That said, the Mozilla OS is buggy, slow, and its HTML 5 only apps are half-baked ideas at best.

Huh.  Looks like my Android phone from like 3 years ago, but with a different font.

It reminds me of Ubuntu.

Heh. Dinkyphones.

Looks more like WebOS to me, subby.

Mozilla? Polished? Those words do not belong in the same sentence.

Fix your farking browser before you try and write something for a resource constrained device.

You're missing the +Userbase of Meego

Just how Polish is iOS? are we talking three to change a light bulb Polish, or firing squad in a circle Polish?

It looks like what android looks like before they let handset manufacturers crap all over it.

Every time you try to make a call you get interrupted by an update, then the whole thing locks up because it has to check every app to make sure they're all still compatible.

Commode Eau Dragon: It looks like what android looks like before they let handset manufacturers crap all over it.

Thats why I love my Galaxy Nexus. Solid Samsung phone, near in capabilities and features to the SIII, but it is stock Android 4.1. The stock Android interface and "look and feel" are so much better than even Samsung's add-ons (which are overall fairly good)

So the first 2 or 3 versions will be lean, have useful features, and be the darling of developers, then it will eventually be a bloated resource whore that is worse than the competitors it tried to replace?

Same phone I'm on and love it. I tried to help my mother-in-law with the SIII but I couldn't figure out how to change some of the really poor design choices they made. The email app is especially horrid to look at. The color scheme seems to only support neon on black or one other color option.

Looks like a bad Linux Desktop, IMHO.

That would be true if I had said that the only "true" android phones are the nexus phones. Instead I am only arguing what is well accepted as correct: that the best android experience is in the unmodified OS.

As long as they can do this without binary blobs *cough* Android *cough* then maybe we'll finally have a handset that's actually open source AND has users *cough* Meego *cough*.

It's the thing that nobody asked for!

Are their developers as small minded as the ones that develop Firefox?

2012-09-27 03:38:34 PM
Well, it'll be as open as (or more open than) Android, that's for sure. But I don't know about the "polish of iOS". Hell, I doubt v1 will even have the polish of Android.

Mozilla, like Microsoft, is simply too late to the game.

It's iconorific! Looks just like iOS except well, circular.

Neat. Now Apple can sue someone else for violating such patents as "being an operating system" and "running apps."

Firefox has been crashing on me nonstop for a week. Not pleased.

HTML5? That's barely a good idea on a real computer and they want to use it to skin a phone OS?

cdn0.sbnation.com

What is that? It's nothing. It's a teenage fan's copy of iphone. Who cares. Mozilla has nothing.

"It's circular. It's like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse. It goes up and down and around. Circular. Circle. With the music. The flow... all good things."
