When you're paid a lot of money to play a game, follow the team rules closely.

Whoa whoa whoa: "In August, Brazilian-born Dinamo midfielder Sammir was fined 270,000 euros for partying in a Zagreb night club on the eve of a Champions League qualifying match against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol."

Well, I guess our leagues having dress codes for before/after games and the $15,000 fines don't seem so draconian now.

actually a lot of really decent beers are coming in cans now.

Because cans are actually better for the quality of the beer. Of course, it should always be poured into a glass.

I spoke to a friend-of-a-friend recently who works for Brooklyn Brewery. The reason most microbrews don't use cans is very simple -- because it's a lot more expensive than bottling. Brooklyn Brewery is starting to can their stuff, by the way, although I haven't seen any sold in any of the stores I've been to yet.

It's not "drivel'. Beer is an organic solution and is light sensitive. Period. It's the reason that almost all beer comes in either brown(Not the best) or green(Worse than brown) bottles.

Perhaps in the initial switch-over from bottling to a canning set-up, but in the long run is is MUCH cheaper.
Cans require less packaging
Cans are cheaper than glass
Cans cool more quickly saving energy costs
You can transport more cans in the same amount of space saving transportation costs
Cans are the easiest to recycle
Cans don't break
Cans block light completely preventing skunked beer (with higher hop contents, this is relevant)

As an avid home brewer I tried to look into ways to can at home. But I'm just as happy with bottles right now; if you tell your friends they get free home brew if they bring you their empties, it works out pretty damn well.

Few reasons. Mostly because sipping from an aluminum can brings the metallic smell into the flavor experience (the outside of the can and the tab isn't coated like the inside). Second, pouring into a glass allows the beer aromas to add to the flavor of the beer (smell is a huge part of taste). If you sip from a beer that's too cold (i.e. poured into a frozen glass), you are inhibiting the aromatics of the beer, and limiting the flavor you get from said beer. Not to mention adding water to your beer by the melting frost isn't very appealing if you paid high dollar for your beer.

I should ask you the same thing. For what purpose do you pour into a frozen glass?

Taste, like most chemical reactions, increases with temperature. Don't like the taste of that beer too much? Drink it cold (think: as cold as the rockies...). If I want a frigidly cold beverage, I get pop or lemonade with ice and/or in a cold glass. If I want to enjoy a good beer, I drink it at the proper temperature. But, hey, to each his own, eh? I won't tell you how to enjoy your beer, but I can ask you to just try it at the proper temperature just once? If you don't like it, go back to the way you were drinking it before. Deal?

Dammit, I came in here to post this.

I found this beer 2 years ago and bought some to take on a beach trip, and I thought it was great. Now each time I go to the grocery store there is a beer I already liked getting canned. Sierra Nevada has the Torpedo in cans near me, and I also saw some Ranger IPA from New Belgium in cans. Earlier this week, while on the road for work, I found something called "Bengali Tiger" from Sixpoint Craft Brews which I had never heard of. It was delicious.

/Sides with the frozen mug crowd, because assuming you aren't drinking in an igloo, the beer and glass will warm over time, so by starting at a slightly colder-than-ideal temperature it gradually warms into, and through, that perfect temp range (YMMV), in order to guarantee maximum beer in the ideal environment.
//Also wants a homebrew canning system

2012-09-27 03:01:40 PM
Cans also weigh less, cool down faster in an ice bath, crush easily when you're done with them, and everyone recycles aluminum because it's actually worth something.

/I drink for the environment

No kidding. If you take bottles to the beach, you're an asshole. That said, when you're at the bar, drink beer out of whatever the hell you damn well please. Personally, when I'm at the bar, I prefer to drink drafts of craft beer. Why? Because if I wanted them in bottles or cans, I could buy it at the grocery store, and drink it at home.
