skullkrusher: bullshiat - you can't legislate compassion and use that as evidence of how compassionate you are. You might as well say that you get sad when you see a Save the Children commercial

What if such "charity" improves and strengthens the country as a whole? You know, having less people dying a slow twisting death in gutters or hospices. That's good for the nation, it's not just charity. It's certainly less charity than the government giving billions per year to countries that hate us. But you people aren't nearly as loud about that, are you?

Pol Pot killed 1.7 million people. We can't even deal with that! You know, we think if somebody kills someone, that's murder, you go to prison. You kill 10 people, you go to Texas, they hit you with a brick, that's what they do. 20 people, you go to a hospital, they look through a small window at you forever. And over that, we can't deal with it, you know? Someone's killed 100,000 people. We're almost going, "Well done! You killed 100,000 people? You must get up very early in the morning. I can't even get down the gym! I don't agree. Since we live in a representative democracy, our government's actions are, by extension, an expression (imperfect, sure) of the will of the people. If the will of the people is that we will, as a group, sacrifice a little of our personal treasure for the health of the poorest among us, I feel that this certainly compassion.

Your statement seems to be making the assumption we live in a non-representative, authoritarian society.

I find this error a lot in people who criticize the duly enacted legislation of our government.

Well, obviously you feel it is important to minimize "compassion" as a political argument against something you don't agree with. But that really shouldn't matter to someone whose goal is to ensure simple human necessities to the poorest in our society.

Hell, call it "flanglestism" for all I care. It doesn't change that it helps the people who need it the most.

what I don't agree with is Romney pointing to Romneycare as evidence that he's compassionate. Wanting the government to help those who cannot help themselves means you're not a sociopathic farkhead. The definition of compassionate isn't "Not a sociopathic farkhead".

I don't really understand what you are going on about.

I think your argument was flawed. I also think that Romney's own pledge to repeal Obamacare says all anyone would need to know about his "compassion". And, of course, his 47% comments.

I don't know why you would then have to attack the compassion-quotient of supporting a previous healthcare law. That could easily be explained away by electoral politicking in liberal MA.

The next week: Our plan invoves cuting taxes

One week: Obama is bad for national security
The next week: Drones attacks are wrong.....due process....an American...

One week: Remember when we read the constitution and promised to follow it?
Next week: Neither do we because we are trying to ban abortion, gay marriage, and birth control

One week: Redistribution....socialism...Obama
Next week: You know thoes tax cuts, we are going to pay for them by closing "tax loopholes" that poor people use
