A screenwriter really needs to create a retro-teen comedy about Mitt Romney during his high school and college years.

A laugh riot, it would be.

A few years ago California had a ballot measure to increase taxes on cigarettes by something like a dollar per pack. I was a very popular idea, and the polls showed that it was sure to win. Until a metric assload of advertising in the last 3 weeks before the election changed everything and the measure lost. Just sayin'.

The Beeb (BBC) had some Tory (party of Maggie Thatcher; Reagan's GF while POTUS) on this morning that said there's no question that a Romney/Ryan victory would be a fatal blow to the Republican party. So it wouldn't be all bad.

Isn't that sort of like looking at a house fire and thinking "Well, at least it'll kill all the termites?"

Honestly, we should get ready for a Romney victory. I command everyone to put away at least one year's store of food and supplies now's a good time before the election to sew those sacred underwear so you can wear them again--into battle.

Make it so.

It wasn't the commericals that made it loose, it was the fact that you can only tax cigarettes so many times. Like the states that fund their education on lottery, then people quit playing the lottery.

67% support in May. Then came $48 million in advertising from tobacco companies...

I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to debate Romney. How do you argue against somebody who will contradict himself minute by minute?

Actually statements like this have me a little worried.
Diebold and the GOP basically stole Ohio in 2004.

With all the voter suppression laws and shiat, I think that unless Obama win by 5+ points, there is a good chance that the GOP could steal it. Especially if it comes down to one or two states.

We'll see. I expect Obama to take Ohio based on current polls, but polls change. There is still time for Obama to stumble or something to come in from left field that Obama has to deal with. Romney might do exceptionally well in his debate and swing some of the independent voters. The economy could stall, or Israel could launch an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, or there might be a terrorist action that has an impact on the conversation about the office of the president and his actions in response to specific issues/incidents.

It's bad for anybody to presume that this election is already done and sealed. A lot of things can happen in the last few weeks before people head to the voting booths. The polls just tell us what would happen if the election were held today.

It's possible that he's just publicly denying (no politician likes to admit that his campaign is failing). It's possible that he lives in the same news bubble as the Limpballs listeners, where any poll that doesn't favor him is explained away as stacked for Democrats.

Ummm, easy, call him out on it. I highly doubt Romney will repeatedly contradict himself on live tv in front of billions. I don't like him at all, but I'm sure he'll be more prepared than that. I think the actual outcome will be he just says almost nothing substantial... nothing but vagueness and feel good statements, and escapes the debates with a indecisive loss that he'll claim as a resounding victory.

I thought I read that Kasich was touring with him, but talking about how wonderful the economy was in Ohio, which undercuts Mitt's argument.

At this point, all Obama has to do during the debates is not fart or belch and he'll do fine, just let The Mitt Show do his thing.

And even if Obama ripped a couple out, not so sure it's a bad thing anyway.

If you watch Barack Obama during a speech, whenever people start to cheer him too long, he tries to stop them from cheering or just shouts through it so that he can get back to speaking.

I know that if I went out to a rally where the main speaker spoke for 20 minutes and 5% of that time was taken up by people cheering for him, I'd be demanding my money back. Even if I didn't pay any money to get in.

Notabunny: I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to debate Romney. How do you argue against somebody who will contradict himself minute by minute?

I've found, in my experience arguing with people like that, the best plan is to just let them keep talking. Feed them more rope when they finish; a non-threatening question will keep them rambling. Repeat that process for several minutes until they've contradicted themselves several times. Then just start blatantly pointing out how this contradicts that, this contradicts that, until they interrupt you (which they nearly always do within the first sentence or two). You then rudely talk over them with something like "I've let you talk, uninterrupted, for the past several minutes. It would be nice if you could let me speak a couple sentences without interruption." Then continue until they interrupt again. Say something like "This isn't 3rd grade. Everyone hear sees that you think it's good to just talk over everyone. You've contradicted yourself several times, and now when someone starts pointing it out you think we don't realize that you're trying to stop anyone from pointing out the flaws in your position. That's insulting to me, and everyone else here. If we can't have an honest discussion then we're done here."
