Why not just make it illegal to be homeless, offer a bed and meals in a govt prison...

Ok, I went from wanting more information to wanting less.

If the homeless, mentally unsound, and otherwise disenfranchised would just have the decency to go and die invisibly so nobody has to think about them then this wouldn't be a problem. I mean how inconsiderate these people are.

Meh. The dock of the bay is where it's at, anyway.

Sitting seems harmless enough, but sleeping on the sidewalk can be hazardous to other pedestrians.

But baby steps are important when it comes to the law.

there are very few places you can go without trouble brewing. you can go all over as a kid on your bike or with your friends. when you grow up you find out its mostly private property, no trespassing, sign sign everywhere a sign.

Wouldn't it be easier to just give homeless people homes than spend one's time debating shiat like this?

Probably.

Have one come live with you. If it works out... maybe I'll try it too.

The sidewalk protestor they passed the law in order to get rid of, eventually got arrested for something more rapey, so they don't need the sidewalk sitting law anymore.

Tried doing that once when I was younger and much more idealistic. Homeless guy who hung around the bank I was working at. Name was "Ray.". Seemed harmless enough, like he just needed a break to get back on his feet.

"Ray" ended up robbing me blind while I was at work. Came home to a gutted house and a pile of used needles stashed in his closet. Lesson learned.

Now I just take in homeless dogs.

There are more empty buildings than there are homeless people.

Well, one of the things they were probably targeting was the drunk natives that tend to come staggering out of bars at all hours of the day, ask the nearest sober person for money, then sit down on the sidewalk and take a nap leaning up against the nearest sign, garbage can, wall, or car. If you've ever been around Fairbanks and Anchorage, you will know what I'm talking about.

Note to self: avoid going anywhere near shidewalks.

Yeah, it sucks, but for most homeless people there's a reason that they haven't been able to keep a roof over their heads. I'm not saying they don't need or deserve help of some sort, but 'just give them a house, that's all they need' just isn't going to fly.
