cman: I understand why the cave man and thug pictures are racist, but can someone explain to a dumbass like me how having him as a witch doctor is racist? Honestly speaking, I really have no idea what a witch doctor is.
Joelogon: cman: I understand why the cave man and thug pictures are racist, but can someone explain to a dumbass like me how having him as a witch doctor is racist? Honestly speaking, I really have no idea what a witch doctor is.African witch doctor. Portrayed in pop culture as a stereotypical oogah-boogah, bone-in-nose "savage." (Similar in concept to head-shrinking cannibals, voodoo priests, etc.)The Facebook page looks like it's now down, but here's what I'm guessing is the witch doctor photo (popped up a few years ago):/ting tang, walla walla bing bang
AverageAmericanGuy: Gutsy move to repudiate the images before the press uproar begins. We saw how well that worked with the Todd Akin situation. Sometimes it's just better to quietly remove all evidence rather than make a big deal out of a relatively minor issue.
untaken_name: Offensive, yes. Tasteless, yes. Should never have been posted, though? I don't think I can get behind that. It smacks too much of thoughtcrime. Besides, wouldn't you rather know who the racists are, rather than have to guess because they're not permitted to out themselves? I would.
Oznog: Don't forget the monkey pics! BUSH you can compare to a monkey... but Obama, that's totally racist.
Ed Grubermann: cman: I understand why the cave man and thug pictures are racist, but can someone explain to a dumbass like me how having him as a witch doctor is racist? Honestly speaking, I really have no idea what a witch doctor is.Troll or idiot? It' so hard to tell these days.
digistil: Both are in poor taste, but only one is racist. Please let us know if you truly don't understand why only one is racist.
untaken_name: digistil: Both are in poor taste, but only one is racist. Please let us know if you truly don't understand why only one is racist. If it's only racist when done by, for, or against persons of one race but not others, it's racist. Therefore, the very idea that comparing people to monkeys is only racist when it's done to members of a certain race is, itself, a racist idea because it requires you to differentiate between people based solely on race. If you continue to push the idea that only people of one race cannot be compared to monkeys, you are actually perpetuating the stereotype. This is why historical context is a bad basis for perpetuating ideas, because if the actions of people many years ago are still used as a basis for determining our actions today, then we have not progressed at all, only codified negative stereotypes into the public consciousness so deeply that they become ingrained. Should a small child, knowing nothing of history, make fun of a black child by comparing them to a monkey, they will be quickly corrected and told that we do not call black people monkeys because in the past they were compared to monkeys. This just perpetuates the idea. The only way to end racist stereotypes is to quit letting them be effective. This means ignoring racist idiots instead of bringing MORE attention to them and their ideas.
padraig: Oznog: Don't forget the monkey pics! BUSH you can compare to a monkey... but Obama, that's totally racist. That's all in the context. For centuries, black people were portrayed are subhuman monkeys. So yes, this is racist when portraying a black guy, and not when portraying a white guy.For crying out loud, how is that difficult to understand ?
Likwit: Spoken like a true racist.
untaken_name: Likwit: Spoken like a true racist. No, you're the racist. Boy, this is useful dialog.
one small post for man: Leave untaken_name alone guys, because he's completely correct. If you just close your eyes and pretend racism doesn't exist it will magically go away.
Cpl.D: The Republican Party: Not racist, but #1 with racists.
markfara: Let's keep in mind that these are the same dumbasses who thought that the Onion's "Obama's 19-Year-Old Son Makes Rare Appearance At DNC" story was real, and demanded to know why the MSM wasn't covering it.Fact: A significant percentage of today's Republican Party are is simply too stupid to engage in anything remotely resembling reasonable debate. About ANYTHING.
Practical_Draconian: I was thinking this earlier:I think I've seen maybe three anti-Obama graphics or photoshops that brought out a chuckle after four years. The majority fail to work as comedic material; they're like Mallard Fillmore bits. Or worse, in more ways than one.Mitt Romney, on the other hand ... just go to the other threads on Fark and witness the sheer number.cman: I understand why the cave man and thug pictures are racist, but can someone explain to a dumbass like me how having him as a witch doctor is racist? Honestly speaking, I really have no idea what a witch doctor is.Are you forgetting that Obamacare hubbub? That witch doctor pic ran in almost every thread on that. Here's an instance where it wasn't used for Obamacare, I think.[www.whatireallydo.net image 400x311]
cman: Cpl.D:/this post wasn't meant to be factual. Please regard this as a joke as it seems that I must give these warnings whenever I make one or else people will go ape shiat and think I was being truthful. Wow, this slashie is longer than my post
