Anybody else slightly concerned that if Obama ultimately wins the election and the GOP loses ground in both houses of Congress that the Tea Party are finally going to go full retard and become an actual terrorist group?

/not saying it's likely

as I said above, I'd be soo tempted to go to an event and accuse people of being plants.

However, I actually went to see Obama speak, and it was the longest most grueling day of standing around for 6 hours hungry and dehydrated, to see him speak for 30 minutes. On the upside there was only one lady I wanted to punch in the head. I can't imagine going through all that for my own amusement.

They should install TSA full body scanners at all campaign events and confiscate everyone's phones and cameras. That'll show those democratic operatives who they're messing with.

intelligent comment below: But the funders are so convinced marketing gimmicks can sway an election their way. They have run their companies the same way, bringing out a shoddy product but spending millions on marketing campaigns. They will be in it until the end.

The money's already laundered. It's just a matter of getting it into the right hands if Romney looks dead in the water. Karl Rove puts out a new book, his super PAC spends millions in adviser fees to decide if they should give that book out for free. They purchase a million copies that sit in a warehouse somewhere. Put out some token commercials using companies that are owned by friends and supporters. There are any number of ways to cash in when you're sitting on hundreds of millions in untraceable cash whose only stipulation is that it needs to be spent on "issues advocacy."

I suspect you're impressed by people who are able to tie their shoes.

In my experience, people who talk about how terrible public schools are at educating kids are invariably people who did very badly in school themselves, and are usually in a shiatty life situation as a direct result. It's much easier and more emotionally satisfying to blame those "lousy schools" than to man the fark up and accept the responsibility yourself.

TV's Vinnie: Mentat: We are rapidly approaching what I'm dubbing the Romney point, where all of the Super PAC money is going to start flowing away from Mitt and towards the Congressional races.

I hope not. We really do need to flush the Teahadists (and especially Mitch McConnell) out of there so that Obama can finally get stuff done in his second term. Otherwise, they are going to be assholes on bath salts just to ruin as much of the country as they can to deny Obama (or Americans) any progress.

That battle's already lost.

538 has the Democrats likely to get 51 or 52 in the Senate. That's not enough to control it - Republicans can control the Senate with 38 or so.

The House has essentially no chance of becoming majority-Democrat thanks to 2010 redistrictings. (per Weigel's Slate blog today)

Yglesias thinks Obama might actually have some leverage due to the sequester and expiring Bush tax cuts. If Congress does nothing at all, taxes go up and spending goes down more than Republicans want. So it's in the GOP's best interest to NOT gridlock Congress into inaction, at least on those two things.

Oh lord, some kids hand enough drive and were blessed with enough support that they managed to amount to something after being run through the wringer! Everything must be fine!

Kids can walk past armed guards and cctv, sit in rooms broiling without air-conditioning, be taught by under paid, understaffed, and wildly unrespected teachers, eat "vegetables" that come with pepperoni, face suspension if they are assaulted by another student, and learn out of textbooks picked by the 7 people jesusy enough to run for schoolboard. If you can't win a Nobel prize with a foundation like that you're just a whiny little biatch who needs bigger bootstraps!

During one of the Boston Tea Parties, a group of SCA types, steampunk kids, or cosplayers or whatever, thought it would be fun to have an actual tea party nearby. They dressed up in Victorian garb, and had high tea and cucumber sandwiches. There was no counter-protesting, no chants, no signs, just an honest-to-God tea party.

But for some reason, the Tea Party still thought they were "imposters."

That was actually funny, because the SP Teaparty outnumbered them 2:1.

I witnessed an earlier rally in 2010 where they went down to faneuil hall and set up shop in a place with a ton of foot traffic. Their photo guy used a telephoto lens while they stood around shopping crowds to try to make it appear their small group of 30 was about 500 large, which they then reported all over their local bubble network.

They didn't appreciate me posting my wide angle photos in their comments showing them to be lying sacks of shiat.

Oh gods...

Randall Flagg is afoot in that place.

Randall Flagg was born here.

I used to know a guy who was the manager of a video rental store. He was a bit older than me and he had been an armorer in Vietnam. I never understood why he was the manager of this dinky little store. There was no way he was making a living wage there. Well, one day he trusted me enough to show me his big secret. He took me to the store room in back and showed me his 'secret'.

For the ten years I had known him, and the ten years before that, he had been smithing cutting edge .50 sniper rifles which were longer than I was tall. And for twenty years, he made between six to eight of these big guns in his garage every year (friends told me that his garage looked like Doctor Doom's workshop) and sold them for $20K apiece to whomever had the money.

Most of the people buying these big guns were conservative whack jobs. I'm talking about rightwing fanatics who make Rush Limbaugh look a leftie. Guys who were born with silver spoons in their mouths, never held a real job in their lives, never did anything worthwhile to earn the trust fund checks they cashed, evaded the draft, and married perfect little Stepford Wives who didn't mind their husbands going to Pahrump or Beatty to visit the whorehouses there.

And before somebody asks, I informed the authorities about what was going on (he was a great friend, but I couldn't let him sell those damned rifles), but the video rental store closed six months later without incident, and I haven't seen my friend since (ten years).

There's at least sixty big guns out there. Two of them ended up in the hands of gangbangers during the Rodney King Riots. A couple of the whack jobs decided to try out their new toys out on the rioters, and halfway to the Nucleus Plaza in West Las Vegas (they were dressed like ninjas and were hopping fences in a minority neighborhood), they were jumped by gangbangers and were very nearly beaten to death by them. Then the gangbangers whizzed on them and left with their sniper rifles.
