Yet the driver was relieved to find the man in one piece - he had fallen directly between the tracks and was untouched by the train.

Disappointed:

Growing up in Long Island.I was about 17,I was drunk and walking on the tracks.
All of a sudden I woke up on the tracks.I had tripped over some mesh( The old wire
they used to re-inforce concrete with). I have no idea how long I was lying on the tracks.

A man on his way home from a German beer festival fell off a train station platform into the path of a speeding train - but landed between the tracks and escaped with a knock to the head from the fall.

Less impressive when you realize that the rails of modern passenger trains are typically set over deep trenches near the loading areas for specifically this reason.

So not so much good luck as good engineering.

Oh, you bet. Years ago, when I was a brakeman on the Santa Fe Railroad in Arizona (while I was going to school), we had to check under cars standing in a siding to make sure no native americans were sleeping it off beneath them out of the rain. Too many instances of bits of bodies resulting. But sometimes we missed seeing one or two and often as not they'd come away unscathed, lucky that no metal parts were hanging down from the cars to catch them.

That's not why; I rarely ever, almost never roll my eyes, man.

As a speaker, when I catch you rolling your eyes, I target you, so, bad read on you.

I saw an episode of Intervention once where the subject only had one leg because he had passed out on railroad tracks and been run over by a train a while back. Since that wake up call didn't work I'd say they were probably wasting their time on the guy.
