That is hilarious. Romney drawing attention to the fact that the audience is only cheering for Ryan.

Greenlight this please. Oh, lord, I may go into a schadenfreude-induced coma before this campaign's dry, withered husk finally falls apart.

Mitt Romney made a mistake when he decided to make Charisma his drop stat.

He is the living embodiment of the difference between charisma and comeliness: good looking guy, looks presidential, and has a comeliness probably around 15, but with a charisma of 5 or 6.

You libtards are in for a big surprise. This is all part of Romney's cunning plan to set the expectations for the debate so low that when he doesn't accidentally swallow his own tongue and suffocate onstage, he'll be roundly declared the winner. I think it's pretty clear that the reason we haven't heard from Fartbongo recently is that he's terrified by this strong conservative man.

I read last week that the campaign was going the "All Mitt, All the Time!" route because he keeps coming off as not being relatable. I still crack up every time I think of that. "Hey, guys--whenever we trot out Mitt, he says something stupid. What should we do?"

"MOAR MITT!"

2012-09-26 04:54:17 PM
...ooooh, we're in trouble if he somehow wins.

Can't you just imagine him blundering his way through the powder-keg that is international relations right now?

"No no no... not Allahu Ackbar. Allahu Romney! Say it with me! Allahu Romney!"

I can deal with Mitt's awkwardness and the fact that he grew up in a bubble making it impossible to relate to the 99.999999999%

What strikes me most is that he doesn't seem to be terribly bright. We all cringed when John Kerry came on stage in '04, but at least it seemed that he was intelligent and self-aware enough to realize it. Mitt seems like he thinks he's killing it every time. I can just imagine the huddle up after these events... all of the sycophants telling him "Great job Mitt!!" and Mitt smiling and saying "I know!"

It isn't.

[Author's note: Jonathan Swift did not really want Irish people to sell their children for food in 1729; George Orwell did not really want the clocks to strike thirteen in 1984; Paul Ryan, I am sure, calls Mitt Romney something more dignified than "Stench" and Microsoft did not invent PowerPoint as a means to euthanize cattle. At least I am pretty sure Microsoft didn't.]

Right now, it looks like his House seat is actually more contested than it has been in the past. Rob Zerban is running a pretty aggressive campaign against him. Not sure how it'll play out, but it looks like for the first time, people are actually more aware of Ryan's policies, other than being able to ride it out on being the incumbent who brings that sweet Federal pork back home to his district. So, it's up for grabs.
But, should he lose the VP slot (which looks likely at this point) whether he retains his House seat or not, I'd look for I'm to run for the Senate as soon as he can. Problem is, does he want to run against teabagger Ron Johnson or try to run against whoever wins the Thompson/Baldwin race (Baldwin)?

Actually, that position is already officially taken according to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love that people are very quick to ridicule LDS temple garments, when they probably wouldn't make fun of Jews wearing the tallit katan or Sikhs for wearing the kachh, or even Muslims wearing the ihram during the Hajj. But people seem creepily obsessed with Mormons and their undergarments for some reason.

The concession speech will be something to see. I honestly don't know what to expect from that. It could be anything from "meekly accepting defeat" to "Our cause is just! He can do the Hilary Clinton lateral move to a state better suited to his politics. I bet there's a retiring republican senator in one of those great plains states or other. I'd say it would be good if he were laughed entirely out of national politics, but of course the truth is that there's always some even more regressive, objectivist- fundie bigot looking for his big break.

I think it's going to be worse than that. I figure he's going to attempt a lighthearted joke to break the ice, but it'll come out along the lines of "I wouldn't want that boy cleaning my toilets much less running my country! Eh? Eh?" He just can't help himself.

I think it's pretty clear that the reason we haven't heard from Fartbongo recently is that he's terrified by this strong conservative man.

But when he was in Massachusetts he said he was a Progressive. You mean Romney flip flopped based on who was voting for him?

Actually, that position is already officially taken according to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love that people are very quick to ridicule LDS temple garments, when they probably wouldn't make fun of Jews wearing the tallit katan or Sikhs for wearing the kachh, or even Muslims wearing the ihram during the Hajj. But people seem creepily obsessed with Mormons and their undergarments for some reason.

quizzical: At this point, I have to think that one of his staffers is going to slip something into Mitt's drink before the first Presidential debate. Just something to relax him and make him seem a little more relatable. And, hey, if it goes badly, Mitt's performance can be chalked up to a prescription mishap.

That...doesn't sound as far fetched as it should.

Romney started the race with basically a 50% shot at winning the Presidency. Now if he knew the companies that would benefit from a 2nd Obama term and the companies that would be hurt by this. Even if predictable gains/losses were only in the 2% to 5% range. Let's say he invests/shorts said companies on a 1 to 100 margin. Let's say $100M and sells after throwing the election. That is a 200% to 500% return on $100M.

Romney will be persona non grata after the election. He'll get dropped like a sack of cement. Even Palin has managed to hang around, keeping herself on television through Fox News. I don't even think Fox News will humor Romney when they no longer have to.

The real question is whether the GOP will simply label Romney a RINO and veer harder right, or if they'll come to their senses. I think it will probably take at least two more presidential elections, before the GOP is forced back to the center, depending on how Congressional elections go.

Anybody more electable than Romney was probably kept out of the race so they would have a shot in 2016. The GOP has built up way too much ill will in the general public over the past four years. Their best hope is to either shape up over the next four, or at least hope that they are up against someone less charismatic than Obama next time.

Anybody more electable than Romney was probably kept out of the race so they would have a shot in 2016. The GOP has built up way too much ill will in the general public over the past four years. Their best hope is to either shape up over the next four, or at least hope that they are up against someone less charismatic than Obama next time.

Really, they should have just taken a time out on the presidency this election cycle.

On paper Romney looked very good. In the primaries, he looked golden in comparison to the rest of the cast. But, alas! in reality, dude didn't have enough sense to figure out that when in another country, you shouldn't insult the host. It has been downhill from there.

I'm actually kind of disturbed by that. If anyone is even worse for the US than Rmoney, it's Ryan. Mitt's just a clueless rich boy who has no idea how the real world works. Ryan however is a scheming, devilish little sh*t who DOES know what he wants, who he wants to inflict it on, and how to go about it if only he had the power of office to wage it.

I like Obama amazing and hate Ryan but I actually think Ryan could have won the GOP nomination and beaten Obama. Ryan would have been the dream candidate for the GOP.

Independents and the general public are not one and the same. Besides, if you were suffering from "ill will", you would be bothered to vote. My personal opinion is that the American people were pathetically disconnected from the day to day activities of the first term for Obama and couldn't be bothered to vote in 2010. Even this year the race has been far closer than it ever should have been. People just don't understand the obstructionism. We're lucky the GOP couldn't field a real candidate.

You go home, sir! You'll get nothing and like it!

Do you think he'd resign his VP nod and go back to running for his House seat in order to save it?

Or wait and go Full Senate in a few years?

Don't count on that happening. I live in his district and the derp is deeply entrenched here.

It's comical how the GOP seems keen on reliving the glory days of 2010 and pretending that it's going to be the same this year.

When in reality, people got sick of the GOP/Tea Party BS, especially after the debt ceiling debacle.

Contrary to what the GOP/Tea Party thinks, most Americans don't view the world "compromise" as a pejorative term.

But keep reliving the glory days GOP, maybe if you close your eyes and believe really hard enough, you can pretend it's still 2010.

I have to give her props for this:

On June 26, 2007, near the beginning of Morning Joe, Brzezinski refused to read a report about Paris Hilton's release from jail. One hour later during another news break segment, her producer Andy Jones again pushed the story as the lead, ranking it over Indiana's Republican Senator Richard Lugar's break with President Bush on the Iraq war, which Brzezinski considered more important. After several sarcastic remarks from host Joe Scarborough, she attempted to light the story's script on fire on the air, but was physically prevented from doing so by co-host Willie Geist. She then tore up the script, and one hour later, got up and ran another copy of the script through a paper shredder retrieved from Dan Abrams's office. The incident was quickly popularized on the Internet, and in the days that followed, Brzezinski received large quantities of fan mail supporting her on-air protest as a commentary on the tension between "hard news" and "entertainment news". Similarly, on July 7, 2010, she spent significant airtime objecting to pressure to report on Lindsay Lohan and Levi Johnston, eventually having Geist or Pat Buchanan report the stories with the caption "News You Can't Use".

The Romney/Ryan campaign is like "Fredo in the boat." Joe Scarborough, September 26, 2012

I wonder which member of the ticket will come back to shore...

Part of the party will double down and head even farther right as fast as humanly possible. Part of the party will wake up and try to become centrist. Part of the party will claim to be "true conservatives." The libertarian part of the party will wander around in confusion. We may see the Republican Party split into two or maybe even three different parties. It may take another four years, but it may happen.

Then of course there were a bunch of the people I was working with calling Tommy a RINO and talking about how he's way to liberal. Kinda like hitting Obama for inexperience, then picking Sarah Palin as your running mate.

Not really.

Magic underwear (it's literally supposed to be magic and protect you from harm) is frickin' hilarious, all those other items, well, we don't even know what they are. If we knew we might care, an undershirt is meh, I don't know (or care) what those other ones are. We don't care about the magic underwear beyond snide jokes akin to invisible pink unicorns.

Also it helps that the Mormons aren't an oppressed minority. I mean, they're a minority sure, but when you can spend 20 million on one initiative oppressing another minority you've mostly lost your victim card.

There is also the divide and conquer strategy, used to be Mormans vs. Cataholics vs. Baps vs. Crystal methodists (okay that sentence seemed funnier in my head) and us secular folk could relax, now all the fundies try to go ecumenical crusade on us and just teaching basic farking science is a long, hard slog through the mud. Get the Mormon weirdness out in the open (it's weird, deal with it) and the OTHER religions will suddenly have reasons to start arguing with each other instead of going back to chipping away at the constitution and scientific progress and sanity in favor of christian dominionism. At least in theory.

rufus-t-firefly: CptnSpldng: Via Infinito: That was freaking hilarious. What's the story with the frosty biatch next to Joe?

Dat's Mika. Mika Emilie Leonia Brzezinski. Her daddy was National Security Advisor to Carter.
wiki

Who are those idiots that think people who watch 'Morning Joe' would give a crap about Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan or Levi Johnston? Good for Mika, and yes, she is wonderful in that clip. Just watched O'Reilly and heard Rove and Morris denounce the polls much like Saddam's former spokesman. Romney and his marauding clowncar have these guys spinning faster than the tilt-a-whirl at the local carnival. It's almost sad how low the GOP has fallen, but not really.

Don't Troll Me Bro!: Apparently, Mr. Thompson forgot how to run successful campaigns because he's been doing some of the same crap Mittens has been. Refusing to release taxes, etc.

I'm sure some of that was pushed onto him from the GOP; if Thompson releases his taxes it opens up the question as to why Mitt still hasn't released his. So they're forced to play "I'm Spartacus!" and all refuse. I like how Thompson has outwardly accused Mitt of tanking his own senate bid because the stink from Romney/Ryan is cascading down-ticket. I will do my part on election day to make him lose to a lesbian.

I know that it is going to be a tough fight for Tammy but hopefully she will benefit from the turnout. I live in a central area (aout an hour away from you). I live in a derp county but I am seeing more and more Obama and Baldwin signs. We have 3 prisons in this country and since Walker went derp, I think we can expect a decent turnout. In my area, Santorum came in a close second to Romney. Very close. Uncomfortably close. So Obama may not win the county, but hopefully he will win the state.

Reason: He's chasing his dad's ghost.

The wealthiest man I've ever known (former boss who was a DuPont exec, bought their lab equipment line and their customer base and ran with it, worth at least double digit millions) was a brilliant man, but oddly lacking in common sense and street wisdom. He also wore a terrible toupee...just awful. On windy days you could see his panic if a gust caught it. At a BBQ at his home, his young son tried to snatch it off, and we all looked away to observe the lovely birdfeeders and plants on his deck, la de dah, anything to NOT see it happen. This brilliant, wealthy man's Achille's Heel was his hair and it confounded me. Shave that head, OWN that bald head! Last I heard he is still wearing the Hell Toupee. Makes no sense. He is still doing well, but I'm sure people look him right in the hair when they first meet him. It is that bad.

I do not say this to mock him, but more in the WTF sense. He was brimming in the best kind of self confidence and business acumen, but the first impression is "Whoa. That is a bad rug.". He can afford The Hair Club.

I guess the wealthy have their share of nonsensical phobias. It works for KJ but not sure if that kind of vaanity/insecurity is a quality I want in my CinC.

Todays reboot has him telling everybody he loves them. 100% everybody. He loves everyone so much that he gave health insurance to everyone in his state. Also Obama is assasinating his character. I need someone to 'jib-jab" his head onto Barney's body and have him singing "I love you, you love me". Also need his head on Rodney Kings body hollaring "can't we all just get along".

*my* advice to Romney is to try to get as much money that he can keep because it's over for him. He's not going to win and he needs to make some (more) money from this whole debacle.

Also, I'm tickled that Ryan hitched his wagon to this POS and his career (hopefully) is over.

Eddie Adams from Torrance: I can deal with Mitt's awkwardness and the fact that he grew up in a bubble making it impossible to relate to the 99.999999999%

I used to really dislike Romney. Now I just feel sorry for him.

Despite all his money, prestige and power, he can't buy the Presidency, his running mate is an asshole, he's married to a Stepford Wife, lives in a sheltered reality, and can't escape his father's shadow.

Plus he has to wear that stupid magic underwear and can't enjoy a rum and coke.

It was an animated .gif of this:

imageshack.us (from SGLS)

Followed by this:

As I suspect is the case with many of you reading this, I'm so ready for this presidential campaign to be over with, to the point where I simply can't bring myself to watch cable news very much. But I do still enjoy Morning Joe every now and then! Occasional douchebag guest aside, it's always struck me as the most sensible, balanced and non shout-y cable news talk show going these days.

With that said, I'm kind of sad that I didn't tune in this morning to see this live: Republican co-host Joe Scarborough, a Romney supporter, recoiling in horror after viewing a clip of the Most Painfully Awkward Man in the World trying to coax a crowd into starting a "Romney/Ryan" chant. Like, Scarborough literally buries his face in his hands and moans, "sweet Jesus."

And just think: with the debates still to come and Romney as of now estimated to have less than a 4% chance of beating Obama, it's only going to get more painfully awkward from here!

Followed by an embed of this clip.

Another book that got many a Mormon's magic underwear in a bind is "Leaving The Saints" by Martha Beck. She's a former Mormon whose father was a professor at BYU and an LDS apologist who fixed or faked data to make the religion look good. The book describes her sexual abuse by her father, her disillusionment with the LDS Church and leaving the religion after both her and her husband divorced and came out as gay.

I keep thinking of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, perhaps the last candidate we had to have been born into conspicuous privilege, even more than Kennedy.
Yet President Roosevelt had warmth and empathy for common people, which the common people could sense and put their faith in.

I think this comes down to the difference between the old English concept of wealth versus the concept of wealth in the American South. For the English, and as a result in New England, wealth is seen as a privilege which entails the responsibility to aid your fellow man. In the South, wealth was built through the exploitation of man and the prosperity gospel reigned supreme. Sadly, the latter concept has become the predominant attitude of the wealthy, further fueled by Ayn Rand and the equation of taxation with theft.

BeesNuts: Via Infinito: That was freaking hilarious. What's the story with the frosty biatch next to Joe?

She's kind of my favorite anchor-lady. Daughter of Zbigniew Brzezinski, Mika is smart and acts like it on-air. She sits quietly in the background while the guys sit around and pontificate, and then she takes a steaming dump of intellect all over their conversation and sits back again while they argue. She's not exactly "relentless", but she's got a pretty decent sense of integrity.

/And, though less so in the last 5 years, she's quite the MILF.

Why did she keep mentioning Newt Gingrich? Any idea what she was referring to?

KarmicDisaster: "painful awkwardness inspires" is my new band name.

Sounds more like a good album or e.p. title to me. But...that's just one person's opinion.
