G-Rot: If the Muslims have made it into Sheridan, then the terrorists have won.

/sharia law will now demand that the lyrics to "Home on the Range" be changed to include goats.

Sharia law isn't practiced in most countries with a Muslim majority, why should it be introduced and/or implemented here in the US? And if you think WE will let them, it either shows your ignorance or your utter lack of faith in the US maintaining its own legal system.

As for goats, I'll have you know Captain Cook's first trip on the HM Bark Endeavor had only ONE female, and it happened to be a goat. They said it was for getting milk, and they are "proper Englishmen", so God forbid they would use the goat for any other purposes but milking (*wink*wink*).

You can keep hating and spewing more hatred, or you can get over it and get out there and travel and learn about countries, cultures, religions and beliefs the world over before coming up with and propagating your pigeon-holed perceptions.

I could see this being like one of those King of the Hill episodes where someone comes to Arlen and misconstrues something Hank does out of good faith and thinks he's a bad father, or racist. The guy is probably bad at the internet, and not used to seeing muslims. He possibly read something wrong on her profile or post and made a mistake.

Pakistan is in South Asia. Also, I'm not sure how people can label it as racist in the article. Anti-Islamic, yes, but certainly not racist, unless he singled out the tribal Pashtuns or the gun-totting Balochs...

Laughable dietary rules should be mocked; good for the CEO :).

This is if intestinal health was the original goal. Jewish settlements could easily be identified by them not having pig bones in the rubbish heap. If differentiation was the goal, it succeeded. As of now, the prohibition of pork products is solely for the latter. Unlikely as it is, if only for health reasons, what is the point of brining Mr. Sky God into it? Let's shame him out of existence and have a discussion of health, not theology with the morons.

Easy tiger, I was merely pointing out the abstaining from pork is wise in world without modern sanitation and food handling practices. Why its was the one of dietary laws of Abhamanic religions is debatable. Before the advent of science, a lot of "good advice" (observational wisdom) about life got coded into religious dogmas. The ancient Egyptians did it all the time.

Regardless of the original intent behind various religious dietary rules, trichinosis has all but been eliminated from our commercial pork supply. I mean yeah, 3000 years ago it's perfectly reasonable for desert tribes with no access to refrigeration to not mix their meat with dairy products or to not eat pork or shellfish or rock badgers. But now there's little reason for it beyond tradition.

Yeah, all those "whites only" stores in the south went out of business due to not having customers. That's why there's no need for civil rights laws.

CSB: A couple of jobs ago I was the only white American guy working with a half dozen Indian guys, who were ALL devout religiously, strict vegetarians, etc etc. Maybe a month into the project I notice one of them with one of those little premade jello cups. I was torn, but finally said "Er, Ajay, you know what that is made of, right?" "No...." I told him to go do a search. About 5 minutes later he's on the phone with his wife. Apparently he had to do some 10 day purification thing or something.

The food hygiene link to pork prohibitions in the Bible is tenuous at best.

One of the tenent on which America was founded is freedom (of / from) religion. Without that nuggest of wisdom from our Founding Fathers, we all would be lorded over by the "Christian" majority more so than we are now. With this right comes the responsibility to respect the beliefs of others. If you don't, you run he risk of losing the right and being beholden to the whims of the irrational religious majoirty that surrounds you.

Sure its fun to mock religions, but it isn't so nice when you get trolled back with Creationist textbooks.

No, its applying rudamentary onservational science:

1. People ate pigs. Some got weird ailments
2. People who did not eat pigs, did not get sick
3. Wizard, "The aligments are caused by the of goat demons infesting pig's magic skull jello!"
4. Schmuck, "No demons for me, thanks!"

It's astrological significance has passed, man. This is the new age, accept it.

That sucks, we were just smoking it up at church last month.

Yeah we took care of the cook. New thing called stoning. New age man, accept it.

Why don't you stone me then? I ate it.

You're cool dude, you just have to pay this bag and you can go home. See you at next month's grill out. We're having two fish.

Sweet! I'll bring a loaf of bread. Thanks for the invite!

You cannot KNOWINGLY eat pork. and you are excused if you are forced, or this is a choice betweeen that or dying. Otherwise, you are fine.

That's why the fantasies about pork bullets, burying muslims in bacon, forcing them to eat pork sandwich to condemn them to hell, etc.. are all bullshiat.

That, and the fact that there is no invisible magic sky fairy actually out there punishing people for their food choices.

The Koran does not explicitly forbid alcohol. It merely warns against the potential dangers of it. Which is actually sage advice when you think about it.

Somehow this has been twisted over the centuries to be a strict prohibition.

impaler: xria: Makh: Bigotry and capitalism don't mix. It's fundamentally stupid to hate your potential customers for superficial reasons.

But the market system is far from perfect, so businesses that practice bigotry against minorities will more often than not get away with doing it for as long as they care to (unless their behavior becomes widely noticed and disapproved of enough by the majority of their customers enough to actually change their purchasing decisions, but that is pretty rare).

As illustrated by:

The market worked just fine. There's no rule that says you get final approval over the market's actions.

2012-09-27 10:29:17 AM
The owner of the company was quoted as saying that he posted what he did because he believed the original commenter was located in Pakistan.

Alright, assuming for a second that this is a truthful explanation, what difference does that make? The original question did not ask if he would ship it. It didn't ask if products were available elsewhere. It asked if the products had pork products in it. Why does the owner of the company give a d**m where dude gets product from? Maybe he has a relative buy some and ship it. Maybe he drives through the area every now and then and stocks up. Or maybe dude has created his own intergallactic four dimension teleporter which allows him to instantly buy product. The *how* is completely irrelevant to the question asked.

Just answer the question asked, and stop being a condescending putz.

For these reasons, the owner's "explanation" just doesn't fly anyway.
Nice try biggots. For future flavors that fit in with your business model might I suggest "Mein Fatherland Chocolate Crunch" and "KKK Wizard Wonderland Vanilla". Stay away from the Neopolitan, mixing "colors" doesn't mesh well with your business philosophy.

Ignoring the obvious bigotry, this just smacks of laziness and poor business skills. Even if the person posting was out of the country, though she was not, a smart business man would have realized that there are millions of Americans who don't eat pork by products for whatever reason, whether they are Muslim or Jewish, vegetarian or simply allergic to pork. There are so many products out there that are sold to the general public but still the companies who make them will go out of their way to be kosher in order to get the kosher symbol on their products because they don't want to overlook that potential market.

If these idiots get a big hit in their market, they deserve if only because of their complete lack of professionalism.

Dokushin: Oh, is it time to start dictating what people are allowed to think independently about? Awesome! Is it my turn yet? I say that any snot-nosed brats that think they have the right to try and control what goes on inside people's heads should be forced back through grade school history and spend a little time figuring out why people came over here in the first place.

Doesn't that depend on which group you are talking about "coming over here in the first place"? For example the Puritans came over to ensure they could persecute people, given that they couldn't reform religion in England to their preferences (see Mary Dyer and the Toleration act of 1689 that was imposed on them for examples of how they were able to act once left to themselves). Obviously these views would fit fairly well into some of the more theocratic parts of modern America, so the idea that there was a single reason for all early emigration to what would become the USA is very oversimplified.

twomutts: Before we get all excited, it's probably a good idea to actually read the article. I admit I was ready to start screaming, "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!", but then I noticed this little sentence:

The user had an icon next to the name that said "Pakistan" Schaeffer said. Responding quickly, he said he jotted his response down. "I thought he was making this comment from Pakistan," Schaeffer said.

While I admit Schaeffer's apology was pretty dickish, and he could have definitely replied in a better fashion (e.g. "Sorry, I'm not sure about that, I'll have to look into it. I'm flattered by your interest in our product, but FYI, we don't ship to Pakistan"), I do think he made an honest mistake. He just has to learn a bit more about PR and how the intertubes work, that's all.

Pretty much this. But this kind of reasoning doesn't jive with Fark's tendancy to blow shiat out of proportion.

Because, it makes the Sky God meat tender, moist, and the salt makes it taste a lot better, plus it serves as a natural preservative!
