Readers Digest version: the latest polls show Romney losing by double digit margins in all the key battleground States and it's late September and his campaign is in "Everybody panic!" damage control mode.

2012-09-26 11:46:43 AM
Those don't all add up to 100.

2012-09-26 11:47:29 AM
Thank you for the dumbed down version.
Reading the headline made bits of my brain leak out of my ears.

But, I'm used to that. I post in the politics tab.

The debates are going to be so sweet. I wonder if Romney will break out in flopsweat or if the fact that he's richer than Croesus will cushion the blow.

2012-09-26 11:48:19 AM
I wonder if Romney's thought about rebooting his campaign...

2012-09-26 11:48:24 AM
Now, I thought this was going to be about the fiscal cliff and the Bush Tax Cut/Obama extension expiring and taxes going up in 2013.

2012-09-26 11:48:41 AM
At this point I think Romney will even vote for Obama.

I was told there would be no math.

Polls say that Romney has a 50/50 chance of winning, though there's only a 10 percent chance of that.

Romney is going to go the debates and tell stories about how he grew up as a poor black child.

Some say maybe, but others aren't so sure.

I hope Romney gets so exasperated that he just starts asking crowds "What do you want from me? I'll be anything you want me to be" or tries to explain away his past comments by saying "Look, I was just saying those things to try and get people to vote for me"

Just watching Romney's NBC interview about education last night was excruciating. When he doesn't have a remark prepared in advance for a question, he stumbles over his speech so much that it's just uncomfortable to listen to. If he gets riled up during the debates, it will be quite a sight.

I'd pay real money to see a Let Mitt be Mitt campaign, or unleashing the Mormon Gordon Gecko, if you will.

Have Romney go out there and act like the arsehole corporate raider jerkoff he is. Talk down to the crowd and explain to them how they should vote for him, because he's so much better than they are. Tell them that he won't answer policy questions, because they'd be too stupid to understand his answers anyway, then have people ejected for booing or asking tough questions.

Targeting the Working Poor
September 05, 1995

Gerald Ford put it into law. Ronald Reagan extolled it as "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job-creation measure to come out of Congress." George Bush expanded the program still more. Called the Earned Income Tax Credit, it fulfills Republican objectives in rewarding work, drawing people off welfare and raising up the working poor above the poverty level without increasing minimum wages.

So why are some of the gung-ho conservatives on Capitol Hill intent on slashing away at a popular, bipartisan federal initiative that helps 14 million low-income Americans make ends meet? Why are they raiding a program that rewards work at the same time they are out to reform welfare by making recipients work?

You would think before he left the building, Karl Rove would have told someone how to run a farking campaign (the last successful GOP presidential campaign that did not, in some way, involve Karl Rove? Eisenhower)

I think Obama employees a prevent defense in the debates. The last thing he wants to do is string 3 sentences together that when one is dropped sounds like "they didn't build that". I don't think the debates are giong to be the slaughter that some hope for. I could be wrong. Mitt is desperate.

I think the first debate will have Obama playing things pretty safe. Depending on how the media response is after it, the next debate will be pretty great.

IIRC, at this point in 2008, the McCain campaign wasn't looking this dire. Everyone was all atizzy over Palin and the campaign suspension, but weren't the polls much closer than this?

No they wasn't, well maybe '04 kinda of, but '08 was supposed to be a nail biter, not an Obama Landslide, '00 was supposed to be a Gore landslide, not a nail biter that Bush Squeaked out, and '04 was supposed to be a nail biter that Kerry Would squeak out.

See my link above.

The media made the race to be a tight race to keep people watching, but anyone watching the actual polls knew it was going to be an Obama win.

Yes, it looked like an Obama win, but it didn't look as clear as it does now.
