FTA: One of the men who pulled former Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Gadhafi from a drainpipe last year has been buried after he was kidnapped by Gadhafi supporters and tortured, later dying of his injuries.

So he was buried after he was kidnapped and tortured and then later died of injuries?

/ That's some fine reporting ABC... did you outsource your reporters to India Times as well?

What the hell do you mean "if"?? We have one of the highest murder rates in the world.

But if anyone suggests that we join the rest of the developed world and ban automatic rifles, the teabaggers start going crazy.

Automatic rifles are already restricted by the National Firearms Act of 1934 and are not readily available to civilians.

Resistance to new firearm restrictions are a consequence of advocates of such restriction demonstrating substantial ignorance of existing firearm regulation and technology.

Because if it is the latter, I'm not feeling particularly sad about the loss of this guy.

I'm not hugely surprised, though what I find strange is anyone who is "loyal" to a dictator who is now dead and can never benefit them in any way again. Gadhafi was a dangerous loon and I can't figure out why anyone would have supported him except for purely self-serving reasons. Though I suppose they'd be pissed that this guy helped put an end to their gravy train.

News flash, skippy: Names from languages that don't use the Latin alphabet don't have a single 'correct' transliteration. Even a phonetic translation can be problematic, because other languages use sounds that can only be approximated using our alphabet.

I read another article about this. Apparently this is a rivalry between a rebel town and a loyalist town. The loyalists kidnapped this guy and shot him up when he tried to escape. This guys brother and the rebel town leaders have already vowed revenge. Sounds like the hatfields and mccoys.

Generally speaking, people in that area fight it out until one side or another gets power, then he putas his foot down ruthlessly on the rest.

While Ka-Daffy was in power, he was too strong to stop; now he is dead, everyone is back to the same old usual sh*t.

It is already happening in Iraq and Egypt; as soon as we pull out of Afghanistan, it will start anew in 30 days or less.

\\\ To whatever extent it is not already underway.

That's messed up...

What is also sad to me is that when I read a story like this, I can't help but think of our own people here in the US. It seems quite plausible that we could end up reading a similar story about Republican supporters doing same kind of thing here. I'm not at all saying they've reached that point yet... it just seems like the road we're heading down politically here in the States. Republicans (both supporters and politicians) have been behaving in increasingly more erratic behavior. Luckily for us it's mostly still all pomp and bluster, but it could escalate. They have an impending loss coming up, how they choose to handle that remains to be seen but their recent track record for handling political losses hasn't been very good.

Tribal loylaties are a strange thing that Americans in particular (excluding those with the pre-fix "Native" perhaps)can never fully understand. We are, by and large, the people that have come from all over the world fleeing on kind of tribal warfare or intolerance or another, and our history is way too short to have gotten a really good grip on developing home-grown varities. So as Americans, we think a valid reason for starting a war, or hating our neighbor rarely begins with "Well, see, in 1116 AD his ancestors..."

More people are beaten to death each year than killed by automatic rifles, but you're more afraid of the gun than the club.

Define "readily" because it seems to me that every semi-literate hick on TV with a Pawn shop or a machine-tool facility, seems to have no problem legally buying, restoring, and shooting everything up to, and including military grade artillery and automatic weapons

Only automatic firearms registered with the National Firearms Act "machine gun" registry may be obtained by civilians. This registry was closed to any new entries in 1986, thus establishing a finite and diminishing quantity of automatic firearms available to civilians. As a consequence, the cost of any such available automatic firearm is relatively high, and thus is outside of the budget of most individuals; obtaining such a firearm at a price of less than $10,000 is extremely unlikely. Additionally, legally obtaining such a firearm requires obtaining federal permission -- a process requiring no less than six months of waiting -- and purchase of a $200 tax stamp.

I am aware of no "pawn" shops that sell such firearms. Private manufacture of such a firearm is a felony offense punishable by up to ten years in prison.
